Mariners acquired RHP Chance Ruffin from the Tigers to complete last month's Doug Fister trade.
Ruffin was a supplemental first-round pick last June and didn't sign with the Tigers until mid-August, so he was a "player to be named later" until now. Tue Aug 2 201123:19M's to acquire Ruffin in Fister deal
According to Jason A. Churchill of Prospect Insider, the Mariners will acquire right-hander Chance Ruffin from the Tigers as the player to be named later in the Doug Fister trade.
The assumption was that the Mariners would either acquire Ruffin or left-hander Drew Smyly to complete the deal. Since Ruffin was selected in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, he cannot be a part of any trade until August 15. The 22-year-old right-hander has a 2.00 ERA over 40 relief appearances in the minors, averaging 11.4 K/9 and 4.2 BB/9. He made his major league debut last month and projects as a set-up man or closer in the long-term.

The former University of Texas star has certainly earned the promotion, posting a 2.09 ERA and 11.5 K/9 over 39 games across Double-A and Triple-A.
