Cardinals signed LHP R.J. Swindle to a minor league contract.
He also gets a spring training invite. Swindle was released by the Rays in July after posting a 4.15 ERA and 36/17 K/BB ratio over 34 2/3 innings with Triple-A Durham. The 28-year-old southpaw hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2009, as a member of the Brewers, and is likely a longshot to make the Opening Day roster.

Rays released LHP R.J. Swindle.
The 28-year-old hasn't had a bad year for Triple-A Durham, posting a 4.15 ERA while striking out over a batter per inning, but he walked too many (4.4 BB/9) and the Rays decided to give him the boot. Swindle has made just nine major league appearances in his career.
