Smith was traded to the White Sox on Friday for Eric Surkamp, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

A converted outfielder, Smith allowed just three earned runs over 16.2 innings with the Dodgers' Double-A Tulsa this season (1.62 ERA) with a 16:9 K:BB. The right-hander isn't likely to be an option for Chicago anytime soon, though the White Sox may give him his first run at Triple-A before long to see if he can hold his own.
