Fri Jun 23 202314:49Wil Myers Officially Released
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Wil Myers has been officially released by the organization on Friday. The 32-year-old was designated for assignment earlier this week, but will now become a free agent. Originally, the Reds signed Myers to a one-year. $7.5 million deal this past offseason. Sadly, Myers struggled hitting only .189 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 35 games with the Reds. At the end of the day, the Reds had better internal options, so they decided to let Myers go. He has a good track record, so Myers should be able to catch on elsewhere.

Tue Jun 20 202316:17Wil Myers Activated From Injured List, Designated For Assignment
The Cincinnati Reds reinstated outfielder Wil Myers (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and then designated him for assignment. It's been a tough season for the rapidly declining Myers, as he dealt with kidney stones before also landing on the injured list with a left-shoulder sprain. In 37 games in his first year in Cincinnati, Myers has hit a lowly .189/.257/.283 with three doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored in 141 plate appearances. The 32-year-old has fallen far since making his only All-Star appearance in 2016 with the San Diego Padres. If Myers clears waivers, he could be sent to Triple-A Louisville to work on his approach at the plate. Myers should be on the waiver wire at this point in most fantasy leagues.

Wed May 31 202300:28Wil Myers Still Experiencing Shoulder Pain, Could Undergo MRI
Cincinnati Reds first baseman/outfielder Wil Myers (shoulder) is no longer dealing with a kidney stone which forced him onto the injured list, but is still dealing with shoulder pain from a left shoulder strain, per manager David Bell. The 32-year-old may undergo an MRI in Cincinnati. Myers was an intriguing late-round fantasy pick this season after joining the Reds but has slashed just .189/.257/.283 with three home runs, 12 RBI, and two stolen bases in 141 plate appearances.

Fri May 26 202312:18Wil Myers Goes On 10-Day Injured List
The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Wil Myers (kidney) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with kidney stones and recalled outfielder Will Benson from the minors in a corresponding move. Myers missed the previous two games, and now we know why. The 32-year-old has really struggled so far in his first year in Cincinnati, hitting a miserable .189 (24-for-127) with three doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI, two stolen bases and 48 strikeouts in 141 plate appearances over 37 games. When Myers is ready to return, there's no guarantee he'll see regular playing time in Cincy's outfield. Stuart Fairchild is getting another start on Friday in right field and will be the beneficiary of more playing time while Myers is sidelined.

Thu May 25 202312:10Wil Myers Out For Second Straight Day
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Wil Myers (undisclosed) is out of the starting lineup on Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals for the second straight day. Manager David Bell said it's minor and that there hasn't been "discussion of injured list at this point." No specifics were given as to what exactly Myers is dealing with, but he'll remain out for now. Myers has been dreadful at the plate all year, and especially of late, and he's now hitting just .189 (24-for-127) with three doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI, two stolen bases, 11 runs scored and 48 strikeouts in 141 plate appearances over 37 games. The 32-year-old should be on the waiver wire in all mixed leagues at this point. Stuart Fairchild is starting in right field and is hitting eighth for the Reds against right-hander Miles Mikolas on Thursday.

Sat May 6 202316:41Wil Myers Activated, Playing On Saturday
Cincinnati Reds infielder/outfielder Wil Myers (illness) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Saturday. The 32-year-old will be back in action after missing a week of action due to COVID-19. He'll slide right back into things, batting seventh and playing right field versus right-hander Mike Clevinger on Saturday. In a corresponding move, Matt Reynolds has been designated for assignment to make room for Myers on the active roster.

Thu Apr 27 202315:12Wil Myers Placed On Injured List With Illness
The Cincinnati Reds placed infielder/outfielder Wil Myers (illness) on the injured list (retroactive to Wednesday). In corresponding moves, the team also recalled right-hander Casey Legumina from Triple-A Louisville and placed right-hander Graham Ashcraft on the bereavement list. Infielder Jason Vosler, who was designated for assignment on Monday, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Louisville. Myers is on the COVID injured list, so he can return to the Reds at any time. Still, it's unclear how soon the 32-year-old will return to action for the Reds. He's not a must-stash in mixed fantasy leagues. Spencer Steer played first base and hit third for the Reds when Myers was scratched from the lineup on Wednesday. Cincy is off on Thursday.

Wed Apr 26 202312:22Wil Myers Scratched With Illness
Cincinnati Reds first baseman/outfielder Wil Myers (illness) has been scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Texas Rangers with an illness. Myers missed the team's win over the Rangers on Tuesday with neck spasms, but now he'll be forced to sit out the following day with an illness. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. In his first season with Cincinnati, Myers is hitting just .222 (18-for-81) with two doubles, two home runs, nine RBI, a stolen base, eight runs scored and 31 strikeouts in 89 plate appearances through 23 games played. With Myers out again, Spencer Steer is starting at first base and hitting third, while Nick Senzel mans the hot corner and bats eighth in the lineup against Rangers right-hander Jon Gray on Wednesday.

Tue Apr 25 202317:01Wil Myers Scratched On Tuesday
Cincinnati Reds outfielder/first baseman Wil Myers has been scratched from Tuesday's starting lineup due to neck spasms. Originally scheduled to start against Texas Rangers southpaw Martin Perez, Myers will instead yield first base to Tyler Stephenson while Luke Maile will start behind the plate. It's been a slow start to the season for Myers as he's hitting just .222 with two homers, one steal, and a .613 OPS across 89 trips to the plate. The veteran did get things turned around over the last couple of games with three hits and a walk across eight plate appearances but also recorded just one single across his previous six contests prior to that.

Wed Mar 1 202315:13Wil Myers Scratched With Back Stiffness
Cincinnati Reds first baseman/outfielder Wil Myers (back) was scratched from the Cactus League game on Wednesday against the Oakland Athletics due to lower back stiffness, according to the team. Alex McGarry will take over at first base for Myers. For now, consider the 32-year-old Myers to be day-to-day. Myers is in Cincinnati in 2023 after spending the previous eight seasons with the San Diego Padres. He hit .261/.315/.398 with a .713 OPS, seven home runs, 41 RBI and 29 runs scored in only 77 games in 2022 due to a knee injury. Myers will be playing every day with the rebuilding Reds and can provide a bit of pop in a hitter-friendly home ballpark, but he'll be nothing more than outfield depth for fantasy managers.

Thu Dec 22 202213:20Reds, Wil Myers Agree To One-Year Deal
The Cincinnati Reds and free-agent outfielder Wil Myers agreed to a one-year, $7.5 million deal on Thursday, according to a source. The deal will move to $9.5 million based on playing time or if he's traded in 2023, and it also includes a mutual option for the 2024 season. Myers became a free agent when the San Diego Padres declined his $20 million option for next season. With Fernando Tatis Jr. moving to the outfield next year and Jake Cronenworth set for regular duties at first base, there wasn't going to be regular playing time for the 32-year-old in SD anymore. He played in just 77 games in 2022 due to knee issues and hit .261/.315/.398 with only seven home runs, 41 RBI, 29 runs scored and two steals. Cincy won't be a terrible landing spot for him, and he figures to play every day in the Reds outfield.

Mon Nov 7 202214:53Padres Will Decline Wil Myers' Club Option
The San Diego Padres are reportedly declining outfielder/first baseman Wil Myers' $20 million club option, according to a tweet from The New York Post's Jon Heyman on Monday morning. Myers logged 286 plate appearances for the Padres last season, hitting .261 with a .315 on-base percentage, seven home runs and a pair of stolen bases while seeing significant playing time in left field and right field, as well as at first base. He logged 30 plate appearances in the playoffs, hitting .103 with a .133 on-base percentage and a home run.

Fri Oct 21 202218:38Josh Bell Sitting Friday Against A Lefty
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell will retreat to the bench for Game 3 of the NLCS against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. With lefty Ranger Suarez on the bump, manager Bob Melvin has decided to go with Brandon Drury at DH and Wil Myers at first base. Bell is a switch-hitter, but Drury and Myers have both mashed left-handed pitching this season, leaving Bell no spot to fit into. He could be used as a pinch-hitter against either a right or lefty late in the game, which is a nice option for the Padres to have. Bell is just 6-for-27 but does have two homers this postseason. Expect him to continue sitting against lefties for the remainder of the playoffs.

Wed Oct 19 202215:39Wil Myers Takes A Seat For Game 2
After getting the team's only hit in the Game 1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Championship Series on Tuesday, first baseman Wil Myers is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 on Wednesday. It's only the second time in the 2022 postseason that Myers hasn't been in the starting lineup for the Friars. In his place, Brandon Drury will man the cold corner and bat fifth against Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola. Drury has only played in four playoff games for San Diego this year, going 1-for-15 with six strikeouts in 15 plate appearances. He hit .248 (92-for-371) with 16 of his 28 home runs, 61 RBI and 56 runs scored in 127 regular season games against right-handers in 2022 between the Reds and Padres.

Sun Oct 9 202218:27Wil Myers Joins The Lineup
San Diego Padres first baseman Wil Myers is in the starting lineup for Sunday's Game 3 against the New York Mets. The 31-year-old was out of the lineup for Game 2, but gets the nod in this elimination contest. He'll cover first base and bat sixth versus right-hander Chris Bassitt on Sunday. Myers is slashing .261/.315/.398 with seven home runs and 41 RBI through 77 games this season. Brandon Drury will take a seat in this one, but could very well see action as a pinch hitter at some point.

Fri Oct 7 202217:19Wil Myers In Padres Lineup For Game 1, Brandon Drury Sitting
San Diego Padres outfielder/first baseman Wil Myers is in the starting lineup for Game 1 of their series against the New York Mets and Max Scherzer, playing first base and hitting sixth for the Friars. Myers starting means that trade-deadline acquisition Brandon Drury is on the bench for Game 1. Drury had been playing regularly with the Padres but slashed just .238/.290/.435 after the trade. Myers slashed .261/.315/.398 on the season, so their numbers are fairly comparable. Myers had also been hot his past few games, going 4-for-11 (.364) with two homers in his last three games, and he has good career numbers vs. Scherzer. Both may have played into the decision to play him. Expect both Myers and Drury to receive playing time in this series.

Tue Sep 6 202219:38Wil Myers Returning On Tuesday
San Diego Padres outfielder Wil Myers (neck) is back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He missed the series opener on Monday due to a neck issue. Although, the injury sounds minor, so fantasy managers shouldn't have anything to worry about with Myers. He'll play first base and bat seventh against right-hander Merrill Kelly on Tuesday. Fantasy managers can go ahead and get Myers back in their lineups.

Mon Sep 5 202211:34Wil Myers' Neck Injury Not Serious
San Diego Padres outfielder Wil Myers (neck) said the injury that forced him to leave Sunday night's game early against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers is not serious. "It's definitely day-to-day, nothing more than that," Myers said about his neck tightness. The 31-year-old struck out in his only plate appearance against the Dodgers before leaving on Sunday. While he shouldn't miss significant time, there's still a chance he won't be in the starting lineup on Monday for the series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Myers is hitless so far in six at-bats in September and is slashing just .247/.296/.348 with three home runs, 29 RBI and 20 runs scored in 198 at-bats this season.

Mon Sep 5 202208:50Wil Myers Exits Early During Sunday's Contest
San Diego Padres outfielder Wil Myers (neck) was forced to exit early during Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 31-year-old was pulled out of the contest in the third inning due to neck tightness. Since then, the organization hasn't given an update on Myers, but the expectation is that he's listed as day-to-day. Possibly, the Padres place him on the injured list, but might wait a few days. Matt Beaty replaced Myers on Sunday, so he'd likely see more playing time, assuming Myers sits out more contests.

Mon Aug 1 202218:44Wil Myers Activated On Monday
San Diego Padres first baseman Wil Myers (knee) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. The right-handed slugger will immediately move right back into the lineup against the Colorado Rockies. He has been sidelined since early June due to inflammation in his right knee. Myers will cover first base and bat fifth versus right-hander Anthony Senzatela on Monday. Fantasy managers in need of a power boost in their lineups should look and see if Myers is available.
