Wed Jul 12 202312:22Matt Bush Returns To Texas
The Texas Rangers signed free-agent relief pitcher Matt Bush to a minor-league deal earlier this week. Bush spent the first four and a half years of his big-league career with the Rangers before being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers last summer. He was released by Milwaukee earlier this year after posting a terrible 9.58 ERA (9.38 FIP), 1.64 WHIP, six walks and 10 strikeouts in 10 1/3 relief innings over 12 appearances for the Brew Crew. The 37-year-old will join Double-A Frisco and will provide Texas with some relief depth, but it remains to be seen if he'll make his way back to the big leagues. In 211 career innings over 217 appearances (six starts), Bush has a 3.75 ERA (4.20 FIP), 1.20 WHIP, 15 saves and 227 strikeouts.

Fri Jun 23 202312:13Matt Bush Back From Injured List
The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated relief pitcher Matt Bush (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list on Friday and optioned right-hander Trevor Megill to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday in a corresponding move. Bush returns to Milwaukee's bullpen after spending almost two months on the shelf with right-shoulder tendinitis. The 37-year-old veteran right-hander wasn't pitching well before his injury, allowing seven runs on six hits (four homers) while walking six and striking out eight in 7 2/3 innings over nine relief appearances. However, he managed to toss five scoreless innings during his minor-league rehab assignment, so perhaps he'll fare better in the big leagues now that he's past his shoulder injury.

Sun Jun 4 202313:26Matt Bush Set To Begin A Rehab Assignment On Tuesday
Milwaukee Brewers right-handed pitcher Matt Bush (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday. The 37-year-old reliever has been out since late April with right rotator cuff tendinitis. He scuffled to start the season, putting up an 8.22 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, and 8:6 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings of relief. Ideally, he comes back and serves as the setup man for Devin Williams but he has a lot to prove at this point.

Thu Apr 20 202301:07Matt Bush Earns First Save Of The Season
Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Matt Bush recorded his first save of the season, beating the Seattle Mariners 5-3 on Wednesday. Bush pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing no hits or earned runs to clinch the save. The 37-year-old is 1-for-2 in save opportunities this year. Bush has a 3.68 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and eight strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings this season. Given that Devin Williams is the designated closer, Bush is expected to have limited opportunities to earn saves, likely only being called upon when Williams is unavailable.

Wed Aug 10 202200:21Matt Bush Steps In For Second Save Of Season Tuesday
Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Matt Bush earned his second save of the season and his first with his new team in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Rays. Bush came in to protect a two-run lead and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts. MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reported that Devin Williams needed a day of rest after his heavy workload recently and Taylor Rogers (knee) was unavailable due to a cortisone injection in his knee. Bush has pitched well overall this season with a 3.38 ERA and an 11.03 K/9 rate, but his fantasy value now remains very limited with both Williams and Rogers ahead of him in terms of closing responsibilities.

Tue Aug 2 202200:30Matt Bush Heading To Milwaukee
The Milwaukee Brewers continued to shake up their bullpen Monday by acquiring relief pitcher Matt Bush from the Texas Rangers, per Rangers beat writer Evan Grant. The Rangers' return was not reported. The veteran will bolster the Brewers' bullpen, as he has logged a 2.95 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 29.8% strikeout rate in 36 2/3 inning pitched this season. Bush will not likely see save opportunities, making his fantasy value virtually non-existent.

Sun Jul 10 202212:54Matt Bush Activated, Kolby Allard Sent To Triple-A
The Texas Rangers have activated right-handed pitcher Matt Bush (forearm) from the 15-day injured list. Left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Bush was on the injured list for a little over two weeks with right forearm soreness. The 36-year-old has primarily been used as a setup man this year, but he's also made three starts as an opener. Over 30 total appearances, he's pitched to a 4.05 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP while compiling a 2-1 record, eight holds and one save.

Sun Jun 26 202213:09Matt Bush Lands On Injured List With Forearm Soreness
The Texas Rangers placed right-handed pitcher Matt Bush (forearm) on the 15-day injured list on Sunday. He is dealing with right forearm soreness. The move to the injured list is retroactive to June 25. Bush has appeared in 30 games this year, with three of his appearances coming as an opener. He's pitched to a 4.05 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP while maintaining a strong 5.1 K/BB ratio thanks to his 90th percentile 31.3% strikeout rate. Bush stated that he isn't too worried about his forearm soreness and thinks that the rest he'll have while on the injured list will allow him to finish the year strong.

Sat Apr 23 202218:59Matt Bush Records His First Save On Saturday
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Matt Bush closed out the team's 2-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday to earn his first save of the year. He retired each of the three batters he faced in the ninth inning while recording one strikeout. This was the Rangers' first converted save of the season. The team has had something of a cryptic bullpen through the early going, somewhat owed to the fact that the team had only won four games prior to Saturday's contest. Bush received a save opportunity this past Thursday, but wasn't able to convert it. It's especially encouraging to see him receive Saturday's save opportunity despite his failed attempt just a few days back. He seems to be the favorite for saves in Texas right now, but Joe Barlow could very well be part of the mix as well.

Tue Sep 7 202110:32Matt Bush To Resume Throwing Soon
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Matt Bush (elbow) is scheduled to begin throwing again soon. The veteran reliever has been sidelined since early April due to a flexor strain in his pitching arm. Bush has only thrown three innings for the Rangers this season and he struggled during those outings. Let's face facts, the Rangers aren't playing for anything and have no need to rush a veteran arm like Bush back on the mound. It seems unlikely he'll take the mound again in 2021.

Mon Apr 12 202117:35Hernandez 2nd Rangers reliever to have Tommy John surgery
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Texas Rangers right-hander Jonathan Hernandez had ligament reconstruction surgery on his right elbow Monday, just less than two weeks after fellow reliever José Leclerc had the same procedure, and their bullpen will also be without hard-throwing Matt Bush until at least July. Rangers president of baseball operations Jon Daniels said the Tommy John surgery on Hernandez was performed by team physician Dr. Keith Meister and went as expected. Both Hernandez and Leclerc will be sidelined until at least early in the 2022 season. Meister did Leclerc's surgery on March 31. Bush has a flexor strain in his right arm and will get an injection Tuesday, then wait six weeks before a follow-up MRI to determine if the right-hander is ready to start throwing again. Daniels said Bush would then need about six weeks — or about the same length of time he is unable to throw — before being able to pitch again in a game. After missing 2 1/2 seasons because of a pair of elbow operations,... [More]
Fri Apr 9 202119:14Rangers' Bush early setback in comeback from elbow surgery
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers reliever Matt Bush was put on the 10-day injured list Friday with right elbow inflammation, a potentially concerning move for the hard-throwing pitcher only three games into his comeback from missing 2 1/2 seasons because of twice having elbow surgery. Manager Chris Woodward said Bush's arm just didn't feel good, though there hadn't been a full evaluation to determine the extent of the issue. “Putting him on the IL just protects him. If nothing’s there, and it’s not that big of an issue, then 10 days from now he'll be fine,” Woodward said. “But we just want to make sure because his arm just doesn't feel that good.” The Rangers also put veteran third baseman Brock Holt on the injured list with a right hamstring strain. He hasn't played since exiting Tuesday night's game with tightness after sprinting around first base and stopping on a single in the eighth inning. Woodward said the issue isn't serious, but that Holt wouldn't have been ready to play for... [More]

Mon Mar 29 202118:15Bush making much different comeback for Rangers this time
This comeback is so much different for former No. 1 overall draft pick Matt Bush. The hard-throwing reliever, now a 35-year-old husband and father, is coming back from injury after not pitching for the Texas Rangers since 2018. “More of the rehab process, where before was more of just I hope and pray I’ll get a chance,” Bush said. Bush's previous comeback was from a much darker and lonely place off the field, after 3 1/2 years in prison following a DUI accident during spring training in 2012 while with the Tampa Bay Rays organization that seriously injured, and nearly killed, a 72-year-old man on a motorcycle. “Last time I was definitely in an environment where it was almost like seriously a dream, if I can come back and play Major League Baseball," Bush said. "I didn’t know if I had to go to independent ball and play, like where my opportunity could come, where my life would go in regards to making a living." Manager Chris Woodward said the right-hander will be on the opening day roster... [More]
Mon Jun 8 202010:56A look back at big hits, bad calls as MLB eyes new draft era
NEW YORK (AP) — Baseball’s amateur draft is about to enter the next phase of its ongoing development — same as all those young prospects picked every year.Even before the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 version was ticketed for a move to Omaha, Nebraska, to coincide with the College World Series. The idea was to stage a bigger television event with more elite players on hand, like Arizona State first baseman Spencer Torkelson and Vanderbilt infielder Austin Martin.Of course, the COVID-19 outbreak scuttled the CWS and sent draft headquarters back to mostly empty MLB Network studios this week in Secaucus, New Jersey. Major League Baseball owners and players agreed to slash 40 rounds to five, beginning Wednesday night with the first 37 picks. The remaining 123 will be made Thursday.MLB Network and ESPN will both produce broadcasts Wednesday, the first time multiple networks will provide live coverage in prime time. Much like the NFL draft in April, remote cameras will show premier prospects... [More]
