Wates was traded to the Marlins along with Jarred Cosart and Enrique Hernandez in exchange for Colin Moran, Jake Marisnick, Francis Martes and a 2015 competitive balance pick, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.

The 25-year-old Wates amounts to a throw-in piece, with Cosart and Hernandez representing the headliners coming over to the Marlins. Wates, who was hitting .299 with a 31-for-35 success rate on stolen base attempts, will likely report to Triple-A New Orleans. He profiles as nothing more than a fourth or fifth outfielder due to his limited power.
