Right-handed pitcher Adam Warren announced his retirement from professional baseball on Wednesday after eight seasons. Warren last pitched in the majors with the San Diego Padres in 2019 and hadn't pitched since due to a shoulder injury and Tommy John surgery. The 35-year-old began his MLB career in 2012 with the New York Yankees and spent seven of his eight seasons pitching in pinstripes. He had a decent career in mostly a relief role, posting a 3.53 ERA (4.02 FIP), 1.23 WHIP, six saves and 20.9 percent strikeout rate in 492 1/3 innings pitched over 323 appearances (21 starts) in the regular season.

NEW YORK (AP) — Adam Warren will rehab from Tommy John surgery with the New York Yankees.Warren agreed Monday to a minor league contract with his former team but is not expected to pitch next year while he recovers from surgery that took place in September.A 32-year-old right-hander, Warren debuted with the Yankees in 2012, was traded to the Chicago Cubs in December 2015, reacquired by New York in July 2016 and dealt to Seattle in July 2018. PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Right-handed reliever Adam Warren signed a $2.5 million, one-year contract Friday with the San Diego Padres, who hold a club option for 2020.To make room on the 40-man roster, the Padres placed left-hander Jose Castillo on the 60-day injured list with a left flexor strain.In 47 relief appearances between the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners last season, Warren went 3-2 with a 3.14 ERA.Over parts of seven major league seasons, Warren is 26-23 with six saves and a 3.42 ERA.He gets $2 million this year, and the Padres have a $2.5 million option for 2020 with a $500,000 buyout.The contract allows him to earn $1 million annually in performance bonuses for games and $1 million for innings.Warren would get $100,000 each for 20, 25, 30, 35, 50, 45 and 50 games, and $150,000 each for 55 and 60.
