Tue Oct 3 202314:56Jordan Lyles Expected To Remain In Royals Rotation In 2024
Kansas City Royals right-hander Jordan Lyles is expected to remain in the club's starting rotation next season, as per general manager J.J. Picollo. Picollo also stated that Brady Singer and Cole Ragans will be in the rotation with the final two spots up for grabs. Singer and Ragans returning is hardly surprising but Lyles' inclusion is somewhat suspect considering his results this season. The veteran's 6.28 ERA in 31 starts was easily the worst mark among 44 qualified pitchers while his 1.98 HR/9 surrendered ranked 42nd. On the positive side, he made at least 30 starts for the third straight season and should be able to eat more innings for the rebuilding Royals in 2024.

Wed Aug 16 202309:54Jordan Lyles Rocked For Four Home Runs Tuesday
Kansas City Royals pitcher Jordan Lyles struggled on Tuesday against the visiting Seattle Mariners, surrendering six earned runs on the back of four home runs in five innings of work. The veteran allowed nine total hits and one walk against three strikeouts in five innings, however, his offense took him off the hook for the loss with a three-run ninth inning that tied the game before eventually losing in 10 innings. The long ball continues to decimate Lyles as he sports a 1.92 HR/9 on the season, the second-worst mark in baseball among 62 qualified pitchers and he also sports an elevated 1.40 HR/9 clip for his career. After Tuesday's outing, the right-hander now sports a 6.30 ERA in 23 starts, easily the worst mark in the big leagues among qualified hurlers.

Tue Dec 20 202216:03Jordan Lyles Agrees To Two-Year Deal With Royals
The Kansas City Royals and free-agent right-hander Jordan Lyles agreed to a two-year, $17 million deal on Tuesday. Lyles makes a lot of sense for a rebuilding team looking to eat up rotation innings. The 32-year-old had a 4.42 ERA (4.40 FIP), a 1.38 WHIP and an 18.6 percent strikeout rate while going 12-11 in 179 innings over 32 starts for the Baltimore Orioles. He was a little bit better than his career marks of a 5.10 ERA (4.68 FIP), a 1.43 WHIP and a 17.6 percent strikeout rate in 12 major-league seasons with seven different organizations. Lyles will move to a better division for pitchers in the American League Central, but he'll also be nothing more than a deep-league innings eater in fantasy.

Tue Dec 20 202200:14Royals, Jordan Lyles Reportedly Close To Two-Year Deal
The Kansas City Royals and free-agent starting pitcher Jordan Lyles are reportedly close to a two-year deal, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported Monday. The 32-year-old journeyman provided valuable innings for the Orioles in 2022, going 12-11 with a 4.42 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and an 18.6% strikeout rate in 32 starts and 179 innings pitched. While these numbers are useful outside of fantasy consideration, they don't offer much in terms of fantasy upside, beyond occasional streaming opportunities in points leagues. Furthermore, the Royals offense would not provide much support if Lyles does sign there, further limiting his fantasy upside.

Wed Nov 9 202215:15Orioles Declining Jordan Lyles' Option
The Baltimore Orioles are reportedly declining Jordan Lyles' $11 million option, per a tweet from The Athletic's Dan Connolly. Also per Connolly's tweet, regarding the Orioles and Lyles, "The sides will continue discussions, a source said, and so he could re-sign at a later date." The right-hander made 32 starts for the American League East club in 2022. He logged a 4.42 ERA and a 4.40 FIP in 179 innings and collected 144 strikeouts compared to 52 walks allowed. The veteran also tied a career-high with 12 wins. Baltimore's current rotation options include John Means, Tyler Wells, Kyle Bradish, Dean Kremer, Grayson Rodriguez, Austin Vothand Mike Baumann.

Wed Sep 21 202222:08Jordan Lyles Tosses Complete Game
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Jordan Lyles was able to throw a complete game during Wednesday's contest against the Detroit Tigers. The 31-year-old struck out six batters, while allowing one run on three hits in the win. The veteran righty needed only 94 pitches to go the distance in this one. He has been pitching much better over his last 70 innings or so. There might be some streaming value in Lyles over the final few weeks of the regular season.

Mon Sep 5 202217:22Jordan Lyles Scratched From Game 2 Start
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Jordan Lyles (illness) has been scratched from his scheduled start on Monday in Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Toronto Blue Jays. Instead, Keegan Akin will get the nod after Mike Baumann threw the opener. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues will have to make the adjustment. Lyles has gone 10-9 on the season in 27 starts with a 4.25 ERA (4.27 FIP), 1.44 WHIP, 123 strikeouts and 48 walks in 152 1/3 innings pitched. This will be Akin's first start of the year. In 37 relief appearances, he's been solid with a 2.70 ERA (3.70 FIP), a 1.00 WHIP, two saves and a 62:16 K:BB in 70 innings. He'll essentially serve as the team's opener in the nightcap, making him one to avoid in fantasy.

Tue Jun 21 202213:06Jordan Lyles To Start Against Nationals
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Jordan Lyles (illness) will start on Tuesday against the Washington Nationals. Lyles was scratched from his scheduled outing on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays due to a stomach virus, but he'll toe the rubber on Tuesday. The 31-year-old has been mediocre from a fantasy perspective with Baltimore this year, going 4-5 with a 5.10 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, 62 strikeouts and 24 walks in 72 1/3 innings over his 13 starts, but his matchup against Washington is certainly more attractive than it would've been on Sunday against the Rays.

Fri Mar 25 202212:03Jordan Lyles Scratched With Stomach Bug
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Jordan Lyles was scratched from his spring outing on Friday due to a stomach bug that is going around the clubhouse, according to manager Brandon Hyde. The Orioles are hoping Lyles can get into a game within the next couple of days. Chris Ellis will get the nod in the Grapefruit League game on Friday instead. The 31-year-old right-hander was pretty bad in his last two seasons with the Texas Rangers, and he had a 5.15 ERA and 1.39 WHIP while striking out 146 and walking 56 in 180 innings over 32 outings (30 starts) in 2021. Given Baltimore's lack of starting options, Lyles will be guaranteed a rotation spot this year, but fantasy managers in mixed leagues can do much better.

Sat Mar 12 202214:59Jordan Lyles Officially Signs With Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles have officially signed pitcher Jordan Lyles to a one-year deal worth $5.5 million. The two sides had reportedly agreed to the deal before the lockout began, but it didn't become official until just now. A physical had been pending and it was postponed due to the lockout. The 31-year-old Lyles spent each of the last two years with the Rangers and they were ugly ones. Last year, over 32 appearances (30 starts), he went 10-13 with a 5.15 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. It was an improvement over his 7.02 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 2020. The Orioles desperately needed rotation help and Lyles should slot in as the team's second or third starter.

Thu Dec 2 202113:20Jordan Lyles Agrees With Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Jordan Lyles agreed to a one-year deal worth $7 million on Wednesday night, pending a physical. However, the deal is unlikely to become official until the new Collective Bargaining Agreement is completed. Lyles' deal could be worth $17 million if his 2023 option is picked up. The 31-year-old had a 5.15 ERA in a career-high 180 innings over 30 starts for the Texas Rangers in 2021. Lyles led all of baseball with 38 home runs allowed, and that could again be a problem in 2022 at hitter-friendly Camden Yards and in the tough American League East division. On a bright not, Lyles had a 2.87 ERA and 0.99 WHIP after Sept. 1 when he started using his sinker and curveball more to attack hitters. Lyles has a career 5.21 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with seven different teams.

Sun Sep 26 202111:45Jordan Lyles Posts Quality Start On Saturday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jordan Lyles has been more reliable on the mound during the second half of the season. On Saturday, Lyles went 6 2/3 innings, seven hits allowed, three earned runs, one walk, and four strikeouts in the 3-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. The veteran right-hander will carry a 5.31 ERA and 1.43 WHIP into his final start of the season against the Cleveland Indians. There isn't much DFS value from Lyles, so he's probably an avoidable option during his last regular season start.

Mon Sep 20 202100:00Jordan Lyles Unable To Contain White Sox
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jordan Lyles struggled to slow down the Chicago White Sox offense on Sunday. He went 3 2/3 innings, eight hits allowed, five earned runs, three walks, and three strikeouts in the 7-2 loss. It was another frustrating outing to add onto an already below average campaign for Lyles. He'll take a 9-12 record and a 5.36 ERA into this next start. Lyles won't be a reliable streaming option down the stretch.

Wed Sep 15 202101:02Jordan Lyles Tosses Gem Versus Astros
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jordan Lyles has not exactly been reliable throughout the 2021 season. However, he was solid in his last start and continued his success against the Houston Astros on Tuesday. Lyles fired seven scoreless innings, three hits allowed, one walk, and seven strikeouts in the 8-1 victory. He managed to drop his ERA to 5.20, which is much better than it was a month or so ago. The 30-year-old will look to continue his end of the season magic against the New York Yankees. Fantasy managers should trust Lyles in that one.

Wed Sep 8 202110:46Jordan Lyles Spins Quality Start Versus Arizona
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jordan Lyles surprisingly pitched well during Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Right-hander Spencer Howard fired two scoreless frames before Lyles took over on the mound. He went seven innings, three hits allowed, one earned run, two walks, and three strikeouts in the 3-1 win. Let's be honest, the D-Backs are not a good lineup, but at least Lyles pitched well. It'll lower his ERA to 5.43, but that won't make him someone worth streaming anytime soon.

Wed Sep 1 202111:11Jordan Lyles Posts Quality Start Versus Rockies
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jordan Lyles was able to hold the Rockies offense in check during Tuesday's game. He went 6 2/3 innings, six hits allowed, three earned runs, one walk, and seven strikeouts in the 4-3 victory. It was a classic Lyles outing where he gave up multiple home runs. In fact, all his earned runs were off three home runs in this contest. Despite that, he was able to help secure the victory. He'll take a 5.63 ERA and 1.47 WHIP into his next outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Lyles won't be worth a look as a streaming option for that one.

Fri Aug 27 202110:39Jordan Lyles Lit Up For Eight Runs
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jordan Lyles was horrendous during Thursday's game against the Cleveland Indians. He went 3 2/3 innings, nine hits allowed, eight earned runs, one walk, and three strikeouts in the 10-6 loss. There hasn't been much positive from Lyles lately as his ERA drops to 5.70 on the year. He can continue to be avoided in all fantasy formats going forward.

Sat Aug 14 202123:57Jordan Lyles Crushed By Athletics
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jordan Lyles struggled to get through six innings versus the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. He managed to get through six innings, but allowed eight hits and five earned runs. The good news is, Lyles didn't walk anyone and struck out five batters. That's about as bright as it gets for Lyles who has struggled throughout most of the season. He allowed four home runs in this one and the long ball was the major difference in this contest. Fantasy managers can continue avoiding Lyles as he clearly cannot be trusted as a streaming option.

Mon Aug 9 202110:34Jordan Lyles Hit Around By Athletics
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jordan Lyles struggled to get anyone out during Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics. He went 5 1/3 innings, 10 hits allowed, six earned runs, four walks, and four strikeouts in the 6-3 loss. Lyles was an inning-eater in this one and threw 114 pitches before his departure. This season, Lyles is posting a 5.46 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 100 strikeouts over 125 1/3 innings. His next matchup will be another battle with the Oakland Athletics, so fantasy managers can continue to ignore him.

Wed Aug 4 202111:36Jordan Lyles Allows Six Runs In Blowout Loss
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jordan Lyles pitched well his last time on the mound, but it didn't carry over into Tuesday's start. He went 5 2/3 innings, nine hits allowed, six earned runs, three walks, and six strikeouts in the 11-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. He was basically hit around all game long, but at least he got six strikeouts. He'll carry a 5.25 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 120 innings into his next outing versus the Oakland Athletics. This is be another avoidable matchup for Lyles as we've seen a ton of those lately.
