Thu Dec 1 202211:09Anthony Gose Re-Signs With Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians agreed to re-sign left-hander Anthony Gose (elbow) to a two-year minor-league deal on Thursday, according to sources. Gose continues to rehab after having Tommy John surgery in September, and he will not be able to play at all in 2023. The deal pays him $1 million per season if he's in the big leagues. The 32-year-old former outfielder went 3-0 for the Guardians in 2022 and posted a 4.71 ERA (5.06 FIP), a 1.38 WHIP, 28 strikeouts and 14 walks in 21 innings pitched in the big leagues over 22 relief appearances. He's obviously well off the fantasy radar and won't even pitch for Cleveland next season.

Thu Sep 15 202211:20Anthony Gose Undergoes Tommy John Surgery
Cleveland Guardians left-hander Anthony Gose (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday in Texas. He's expected to need 12 to 18 months to recover from the elbow reconstruction, so he's highly unlikely to pitch at all for Cleveland next season. Gose hasn't pitched for the Guardians since early July, and he had a 4.71 ERA (5.07 FIP), a 1.38 WHIP, 28 strikeouts and 14 walks in 21 relief innings this year. The 32-year-old southpaw is well off the fantasy baseball radar.

Wed Mar 31 202116:06Closing time: Indians to use closer-by-committee approach
CLEVELAND (AP) β€” The Indians' opener is Thursday in Detroit. Their closer isn't nearly as definitive. Cleveland enters the season with uncertainty at several positions, questions about whether their offense can produce enough to back a strong starting staff and manager Terry Francona deciding not to christen a closer from an interesting assortment of bullpen arms. For now, the closer's job is shared. After the Indians parted ways with All-Star Brad Hand this winter, it was assumed that hard-throwing right-hander James Karinchak, who had 53 strikeouts in 27 innings last season, would move into the vital closer spot. However, partly because of Karinchak's struggles during camp (6.10 ERA in 12 appearances) and because he has other options, Francona will use a rotation of relievers to close with Karinchak, Emmanuel Clase and Nick Wittgren all getting a turn. β€œIt’s more how we get to a point in the game,” Francona said Wednesday on a Zoom call from Comerica Park. "I've never been real comfortable... [More]
Thu Mar 18 202101:11Astros LHP Framber Valdez gets positive update on injury
The Houston Astros received a positive update on left-hander Framber Valdez on the same day Forrest Whitley had season-ending surgery on his right elbow. Valdez met with Dr. Steven Shin in Los Angeles on Wednesday, and new images of the pitcher's fractured left ring finger showed significant healing, according to the team. Valdez is expected to continue his rehab at the team's facility in Florida, and there is no timetable yet for his return to the mound. The 27-year-old Valdez went 5-3 with a 3.57 ERA in 11 games last year, including 10 starts. He got hurt when struck by a comebacker while pitching against the Mets on March 2. Whitley's Tommy John surgery was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas. He got hurt while throwing batting practice this spring training. The 23-year-old Whitley, one of Houston's top prospects, is expected to miss at least a year. He was selected by the Astros in the first round of the 2016 amateur draft. LHP Anthony Gose made his professional pitching debut on Monday night for Class A Lakeland, allowing one run, one hit and one walk with one strikeout. Gose, who last pitched in high school, logged 372 games in five seasons as a center fielder with Detroit and Toronto before initiating the position change this spring. He faced five batters, touched 99 mph with his fastball and also mixed in a few curveballs and one changeup.

Tue May 17 201603:56CF Anthony Gose optioned to Triple-A Toledo
CF Anthony Gose was optioned to Triple-A Toledo. Gose has started most of the season but his offensive futility caused him to lose his job. He was batting .209 with two home runs and seven RBI in 91 at-bats. The club kept rookie OF Steven Moya, who is batting .400 after a Triple A callup last week. "He just needs to play," manager Brad Ausmus said of Gose. "If Moya doesn't swing the bat well in Baltimore, it might be the other way around."

Sun Sep 27 201510:39Gose out of lineup Sunday against Twins
Gose is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins.
Despite the Twins bringing a right-hander to the hill in Ervin Santana, the lefty-swinging Gose will sit in light of his recent offensive struggles. He's recorded just two hits in his last 20 at-bats, dropping his season average from .261 to .254. Tyler Collins will replace Gose in Sunday's lineup.

Gose will sit out the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Indians, Chris Iott of MLive.com reports.
Gose went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run scored in the first game of the day, but he'll get a rest for Game 2. Rajai Davis will slide over from left to man center field, while Tyler Collins will enter the lineup in Gose's place.

Gose went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a walk, a stolen base and two strikeouts against the Royals on Thursday.
The steal was his 20th, marking the first time he's reached that milestone. Gose has rattled off five hits and scored four runs in the last three games, but with a 31:111 BB:K, an average that's been lingering in the .250s (and it's only that high because of a season-opening hot streak), and a poor success rate on the basepaths (he's been caught 10 times), there are quite a few aspects of his game that need work.

Gose went 1-for-3 Saturday against the Jays, but his embarrassing defensive gaffe in the fourth inning put the Jays up 6-1.
This guy will never fulfill his potential if he cannot think the game. And so far, he's given no-one the indication he can do that. With one out in the fourth, Gose caught Josh Donaldson's fly ball to the warning track. He thought it was the third out and started nonchalantly jogging in with the ball. Ryan Goins was on second and he booted it all the way home. It wasn't even classed an error and his manager Brad Ausmus could only mutter, "There's really nothing you can say to him; he knows he screwed up."
Sun Aug 23 201510:27Gose out of lineup Sunday against Rangers
Gose is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rangers.
Gose has been finding himself in the lineup more frequently against lefty pitching, albeit at the bottom of the order, but manager Brad Ausmus will sit the outfielder against southpaw Cole Hamels after he went 0-for-7 with five strikeouts in the first three games of the series. Rajai Davis will earn the starting nod in center field while Gose remains on the bench.

Gose went 2-for-5 with a triple, an RBI and three runs against the Cubs on Wednesday.
It looks like Gose is going to miss Wrigley Field after going 5-for-11 with a double, a triple, a homer, three RBI and six runs over this week's two-game series against the Cubs. With the way he's slumped since the start of June, it's hard to expect much from Gose, though he's usable for his speed contributions in deep and AL-only formats.

Gose, who was hitting .304 on June 4, is now hitting .252 and has gone 13-for-82 (.159) over the last month.
He has struck out 27 times in that span (once every three at bats). He showed tremendous promise the first couple months of the season, but has become the player he's always been. And at this point in his career, we can't help but wonder if he's a case of what you see is what you get. He's certainly stuck at this point and that doesn't make him viable in most fantasy formats.
Fri Jul 31 201518:06Gose late addition to lineup Friday against Orioles
Gose was a late addition to the lineup Friday against the Orioles.
Gose was initially out of the lineup Friday, but the late trade of Yoenis Cespedes changed things, pushing Rajai Davis over to left field and opening center field for Gose. A report indicated that Davis will split duties in left field with Tyler Collins, which could result in added starts for Gose moving forward.
