RHP Deck McGuire (1-1) earned his first big league win in his sixth appearance and second start. He worked five innings, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out a pair. He also collected his first career RBI in the fifth inning.

RHP Deck McGuire went three innings in his first major league start and allowed six runs, four earned, on six hits and a pair of walks while striking out five. McGuire had made four relief appearances since being called up when rosters expanded and is now 0-1 overall with a 4.15 ERA.

RHP Deck McGuire will start Tuesday's game at Milwaukee. McGuire has not allowed an earned run in his four appearances since being recalled from Double-A Pensacola. He is replacing RHP Rookie Davis in the rotation. Davis was shut down due to a hip issue. McGuire was 9-9 with a 2.79 ERA in 28 starts at Double-A. "He makes the most sense to start right now," said Reds manager Bryan Price. "It's an opportunity to see what kind of fit he'll be moving forward. He's got the full arsenal. He's a strike thrower, controls the running game. Showing some competitiveness." McGuire said he's not relying on any one pitch to get outs, which has been a key for him. "I've been challenging people and throwing all four pitches for strikes," he said. "Any time you get the opportunity to pitch in the major leagues, it's a big deal."

RHP Deck McGuire has been mentioned by manager Bryan Price as a candidate to make a start during next week's series at Milwaukee. McGuire entered a game against the Cardinals with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh inning and induced an inning-ending double play grounder. He was a Double-A All-Star at Pensacola.

RHP Deck McGuire had his contract selected Tuesday from Double-A Pensacola, earning his first promotion to the majors. McGuire was a Southern League All-Star, going 9-9 in 28 outings with a 2.79 ERA and 170 strikeouts over 168 innings. McGuire made a successful MLB debut with 1 2/3 scoreless innings at the end of Tuesday night's 13-4 loss, fanning one.

McGuire has a 3.03 ERA and 56:16 K:BB in 68.1 innings split between the Dodgers' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates.

We only mention this because McGuire was the No. 11 overall pick (Toronto) in the 2010 draft. He's still a long shot to make an impact at the big league level, but given the Dodgers' rotation woes this year, perhaps he'll get a shot.
