Gomes allowed one hit over a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday against the Yankees en route to his first save of the season.
Brad Boxberger had pitched on back-to-back days and three of the last four days prior to Tuesday's game, so he was likely unavailable. Boxberger has been pretty bad down the stretch, posting a 4.79 ERA over the second half, so it would not be surprising if the Rays opted for a closer-by-committee approach over the final weeks of the season, meaning Gomes could be called upon again.

Gomes registered a 3.68 ERA and 1.295 WHIP in 29.1 innings pitched during the first half of the 2015 season.
The 30-year-old has been at least a slightly above-average pitcher since the start of the 2014 season with Tampa Bay, with a 104 ERA+ in 63.1 innings. The Rays' bullpen remains extremely crowded at the top though, so it's unlikely Gomes advances above his current 6-7th inning role.

Gomes has looked sharp so far in 2015, putting up a 1.93 ERA and 1.071 WHIP across 14 innings.
As well as Gomes has pitched, the Rays are unlikely to use him in a high-leverage role anytime soon. His stuff (8.4 K/9, 1.9 BB/9) has been impressive enough, but Tampa Bay has used too many other pitchers in the ninth inning to reasonably think he has a shot at a job with real fantasy value.
Sat Apr 18 201523:13Gomes called up to Rays Saturday
Gomes was called up to the Rays Saturday.
Gomes has not been on the major league roster yet this season. He has not played in more than 30 games in a season over the past three seasons for the Rays. Gomes has a career .417 ERA in 108 innings of work. He will look to get a few innings out of the bullpen, but his exact role has not been determined.
Mon Mar 30 201518:15Gomes reassigned to minor league camp
Gomes has been reassigned to minor league camp, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Gomes was a non-roster invite to Rays camp this spring and pitched well with a .93 ERA over 9.2 innings of work. He tallied 15 strikeouts and no walks. Gomes will move down to minor league camp for the time being.

Gomes has been extended a non-roster invite to attend the Rays' major-league camp for spring training, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports.
The right-hander will face an uphill battle to reclaim a spot on the team's 40-man roster after being designated for assignment last week. While Gomes posted respectable numbers in 34 innings with the big club last season (3.71 ERA, 1.15 WHIP), he benefited from a .235 BABIP and 78.1% strand rate.
Fri Dec 19 201412:17The Rays designated Gomes for assignment Friday
The Rays designated Gomes for assignment Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The Rays were in need of a spot on their 40-man roster, and they decided Gomes was the player they were willing to expose to waivers. Gomes posted a 3.71 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 29 games out of the Rays' bullpen last season, so it would not be surprising to see him snapped up by another squad.
Sun Aug 31 201411:13Gomes will be recalled by Rays when rosters expand Monday
Gomes will be recalled by the Rays when rosters expand Monday, Steve Carney of 620 WDAE reports.
Gomes will give the Rays another right-handed option out of the bullpen during the season's final month, but he'll more than likely be limited to mop-up duty or other low-leverage situations.
Fri Aug 15 201422:05Gomes optioned to Triple-A Durham

Wed Aug 13 201416:51Gomes recalled from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday
Gomes was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Manager Joe Maddon said the team was likely to make a move to add a bullpen arm after all seven of its relievers were used in the first two games of the Rangers series, and it was Gomes who got the call. The 30-year-old right-hander has spent the entire year at Durham, posting a 4.60 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 10.4 K/9 in 22 appearances (29.1 innings). His stint with the big club will likely be short, but Gomes may get an extended run when rosters expand.

Sun Mar 23 201417:47Brandon Gomes goes two hitless
Brandon Gomes pitched a pair of hitless innings in relief Sunday against the Red Sox.
Gomes has struck out 12 in nine scoreless innings this spring, so he should have a bullpen spot nailed down. He had a 6.52 ERA in the majors last year, but he struck out 29 in 19 1/3 innings. Overall, he has a 4.38 ERA in 81 relief appearances as a major leaguer.
