The Seattle Mariners signed right-handed reliever Tom Wilhelmsen to a major league contract Wednesday.The team also transferred left-hander Charlie Furbush to the 60-day disabled list (left shoulder biceps tendinitis) and optioned right-hander Jonathan Aro to Triple-A Tacoma.Wilhelmsen was available for Wednesday night's game at the Detroit Tigers.In 21 appearances with the Texas Rangers this season, Wilhelmsen was 2-3 with a 10.55 ERA over 21 1/3 innings. He declined an outright assignment from Texas and was granted free agency on June 16. He was traded by the Mariners to the Rangers on Nov. 16, 2015.Wilhelmsen, 32, was 11-10 with 67 saves and a 2.97 ERA in 267 games, including two starts, in five seasons with the Mariners from 2011 to 2015. In 2015 with Seattle, Wilhelmsen was 2-2 with 13 saves and a 3.19 ERA in 53 games.Wilhelmsen is the Mariners' all-time club leader in ERA (minimum 300 innings pitched) with a mark of 2.97. Wilhelmsen is also tied for the fifth-most saves in club history with 67. His 265 relief appearances with Seattle rank sixth in team history.Furbush, 30, has not pitched this season after being placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 3 (retroactive to March 25).Aro, 25, has made one appearance (two-thirds scoreless inning) with Seattle after being recalled from Tacoma on June 17. Prior to being recalled, Aro was 2-2 with one save and a 2.45 ERA over 33 innings with Tacoma this season.The Mariners also acquired left-handed pitcher Wade LeBlanc in a minor league trade from the Toronto Blue Jays for a player to be named later or cash considerations.LeBlanc, 31, was 7-2 with a 1.71 ERA in 14 starts with Triple-A Buffalo in the Toronto organization this season.
