Pimentel was claimed off waivers by the Rangers on Saturday, the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant reports.

Pimentel was designated for assignment Sunday, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Mon Mar 23 201523:35Pimentel long shot to make Bucs' Opening Day roster
Pimentel, who is out of options, is a long shot to make the Bucs' Opening Day roster.
The hard-throwing righty has allowed six runs on nine hits (including two homers) and four walks in six innings. Pimentel struggled to a 5.23 ERA in 32.2 IP last season. In a perfect scenario, the team would slip him through waivers and help him work out his kinks at Triple-A.
Mon Sep 1 201412:36Pimentel (lower body) activated from 15-day DL on Monday
Pimentel (lower body) was activated from the 15-day DL on Monday.
Pimentel hit the DL in mid-August with lower body soreness but will return Monday after missing just over the minimum 15 days required by his stint. The 24-year-old has posted a 5.40 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 31.2 innings with the big club this season, and will likely work exclusively in low-leverage/mop-up duty over the remainder of the regular season.

Pimentel will be placed on the disabled list Friday with lower body soreness, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburg Tribune-Review reports.
It's not clear what type of setback Pimentel is dealing with, but he was tagged for six earned runs over his last three outings, and the injury helps explain his struggles. John Axford, who was acquired by the Pirates on Thursday, will take Pimentel's spot in the bullpen.
Thu Aug 14 201417:10Pimentel designated for assignment Thursday
Pimentel was designated for assignment Thursday, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
The move won't become official until Friday, but it looks like Pimentel will be dropped from the 40-man roster to create a spot for reliever John Axford, whom the Pirates claimed off waivers from the Indians on Thursday. Pimentel contributed a mediocre 5.40 ERA and struck out 37 batters over 31.2 innings, but at 24 years old, he's still young enough to attract interest from other clubs off waivers.
Wed Jun 11 201415:17Stolmy Pimentel activated from disabled list
Pirates activated RHP Stolmy Pimentel from the 15-day disabled list.
Pimentel missed over a month of action with inflammation in his pitching shoulder. All six of the right-hander's appearances this season in the majors have been in relief, but he could conceivably be an option to stretch out and fill in for the injured Francisco Liriano (oblique).

Pimentel was showing promise this year in a mid-relief role, so the Pirates will hope that the shoulder discomfort doesn't linger. The 24-year-old righty owns a cool 2.61 ERA and 8.7 K/9 in 20 2/3 career major league frames.

Thu Apr 3 201401:36Pirates win in 16th behind Pimentel, Sanchez
Stolmy Pimentel held the Cubs scoreless for four innings to earn a win as the Pirates prevailed 4-3 in 16 innings Wednesday.
Make no mistake: the Pirates would have sent Pimentel to Triple-A and kept Vin Mazzaro at the end of the spring had Pimentel not been out of options. But that doesn't mean Pimentel can't be a useful part of the pitching staff, as he showed tonight. He has the stuff to be a legitimate starting pitcher in time, and he was able to work around three walks and hold off the Cubs until the Pirates finally scored again tonight. They won in the 16th when pinch-hitter Tony Sanchez, the last man on the bench, singled in Jose Tabata. Fortunately for both teams, there's a good chance Thursday's contest will be rained out. Neither is going to be excited to play after this marathon of a game.

Sat Mar 22 201417:48Stolmy Pimentel gives up three homers
Stolmy Pimentel yielded three runs in five innings Saturday in his start against the Phillies.
The runs came on homers from Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard and Cody Asche. Pimentel was making just his second official appearance of the spring, which is kind of odd given his status as a trade candidate. Or maybe the Pirates have their heart set on keeping him as a middle reliever. One thing is for sure: he's not clearing waivers if the team tries to sneak him through.

Sun Mar 2 201416:48Stolmy Pimentel goes two scoreless in win
Stolmy Pimentel tossed two scoreless innings for the win as the Pirates topped the Phillies 4-1 on Sunday.
It's safe to say Pimentel will have a few scouts watching him this spring. He's out of options, and while the Pirates could squeeze him into their pen, they have so many strong options there that they might be better off cashing him in for a prospect.

Sun Feb 16 201419:16Stolmy Pimentel could crack Pirates roster
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle indicated Sunday that Stolmy Pimentel could earn a spot in the Pirates Opening Day roster.
When discussing Pimentel, Hurdle stated "He's a very exciting young man to watch. We like his makeup and his skills. And what we were able to get from him last year." The talented 24-year-old right-hander is out of minor league options, so it seems an extreme likelihood that he cracks the roster, most likely in the bullpen.

Sat Feb 16 201309:05Pimentel obtains visa, reports to camp
Stolmy Pimentel has obtained his work visa and will report to Pirates' camp Saturday.
Pimentel was the only Pirates' pitcher or catcher who didn't report on time, but was able to solve his visa issues in his native Dominican Republic. The 23-year-old right-hander was acquired from the Red Sox in December as part of the Joel Hanrahan deal.
