Fox is a candidate for the majors in 2011 but will need to make the most of his opportunities in spring training. The 27-year-old right-hander posted a 3.96 ERA in 129 innings for the Red Sox Triple-A affiliate this season.

Less than two weeks after releasing Matt Fox, the Red Sox have re-signed him.
Fox has shown good stuff in the minors and presumably is still a candidate for the majors in 2011. But he will need to make the most of any opportunity he might get, as Boston currently is fairly stacked in the rotation and bullpen.

Red Sox released RHP Matt Fox.
The Red Sox designated Fox for assignment earlier this month to clear a spot on their 40-man roster following the addition of catcher Max Ramirez. Fox was 6-9 with a 3.95 ERA and 104/51 K/BB ratio over 21 starts and 14 relief appearances with Triple-A Rochester last season, averaging 7.6 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9, and had a 4.91 ERA in 7 1/3 major league innings between Minnesota and Boston. The 27-year-old right-hander won't have a problem latching on with the Triple-A affiliate of a different organization.

Fox was designated for assignment after allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings in his major league debut against the Rangers last Friday. The 27-year-old right-hander was 6-9 with a 3.95 ERA and 104/51 K/BB ratio over 21 starts and 14 relief appearances with Triple-A Rochester this season, averaging 7.6 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9. He's a fringe major-leaguer, but the Red Sox obviously saw something they liked.
