Thu Apr 21 202222:16Greg Holland Clears Waivers, Becomes A Free Agent
Former Texas Rangers pitcher Greg Holland cleared waivers and declined an outright assignment to become a free agent Thursday. He was designated for assignment Tuesday by the Rangers and will now look to latch onto another team. The 36-year-old signed a minor-league deal with Texas during the offseason and made the team's Opening Day roster. He struggled mightily this season, posting a 7.71 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and 5:1 K: BB over 4 2/3 innings. Holland should draw interest from teams searching for bullpen help but won't have any fantasy value unless he's in consideration for saves chances with his new team.

Tue Apr 5 202218:52Greg Holland, Eli White Make Opening Day Roster
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Greg Holland and outfielder Eli White have been informed by manager Chris Woodward that they have made the team. Meanwhile, relief pitcher Spencer Patton was optioned and outfielder Jake Marisnick was released by the team. Holland is the most notable player here. Joe Barlow has been heralded as the favorite for saves in Texas, but Holland significantly outperformed him this spring and we all know the 36-year-old has far more experience in a closing roll in the majors. Fantasy managers in leagues where saves are scarce and highly coveted may want to speculatively add Holland in case he opens the year as the team's primary closer.

Wed Mar 16 202221:01Greg Holland Signs With The Rangers
Relief pitcher Greg Holland has signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers. The team has also invited the veteran pitcher to Spring Training with the major league squad. The 36-year-old Holland spent the last two seasons with the Kansas City Royals. He looked rejuvenated in 2020, when he had a 1.91 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP over 28.1 innings. However, last year he struggled immensely to the tune of a 4.85 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. He'll have some work to do in order to earn some high-leverage innings with his new squad.

Tue Aug 17 202112:42Greg Holland Hits The Injured List
Kansas City Royals reliever Greg Holland (shoulder) has been placed on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder impingement syndrome. It's unclear how long his stint will be. Holland has struggled this season out of the Royals bullpen with a 5.79 ERA in 46.2 innings but does have seven saves and eight holds. He's been especially shaky lately, allowing nine runs in his last three innings. Fantasy managers rostering Holland should feel comfortable dropping him in favor of a better pitcher, as when he returns it's unlikely that he will pitch in high leverage roles.

Sun Jul 25 202102:43Sandoval loses no-hitter in 9th, Angels beat Twins 2-1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Patrick Sandoval had his no-hit bid broken up with one out in the ninth inning on a soft double by rookie Brent Rooker and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Saturday night. Sandoval, a 24-year-old lefty who began the game with a 3-13 career record, struck out a career-high 13. There have already been seven no-hitters in the majors this season. The big league record of eight was set in 1884, the first year overhand pitching was permitted. The Twins hadn’t come close to a hit until Rooker, who fanned his first three times up, flared an opposite-field fly that fell just inside the line in right. Sandoval (3-4) smiled after the ball fell, retired the next batter and then was pulled after 108 pitches. He walked one and hit two. Closer Raisel Iglesias allowed an RBI double to Josh Donaldson before getting his 21st save in 25 chances. José Berríos (7-5) allowed two unearned runs in seven innings in perhaps his final start for Minnesota. ASTROS 4, RANGERS... [More]

BOSTON (AP) — Rafael Devers hit two home runs, including a go-ahead blast in the fifth inning, to help the Boston Red Sox best New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole for the second straight time at Fenway Park in a 6-2 victory Friday night. Devers followed his two-run with a three-run homer in the seventh — the 100th of his career — to help Boston improve to 9-2 against New York this season. The Red Sox maintained their one-game AL East lead over Tampa Bay and increased their lead to nine games over the third-place Yankees. Yacksel Rios (3-0) got the victory, pitching two scoreless innings to cap a strong night from the bullpen after starter Eduardo Rodriguez left in the second inning after experiencing migraine symptoms. Cole (10-5) started strong for New York, but was pulled after fiving innings, giving up three runs off six hits, striking out eight and walking two. ATLANTA (AP) — Freddie Freeman homered off Yu Darvish in the sixth inning, Touki Toussaint allowed one run and three hits in his season debut, and the Atlanta Braves beat the San Diego Padres 2-1 on Tuesday night. Toussaint, who missed the first 3½ months rehabbing a right shoulder strain, retired the first seven batters he faced before walking Victor Caratini in the third. He didn’t allow a hit until Manny Machado doubled with one out in the fourth. The Padres tied it 1-all in the fourth when Jake Cronenworth was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on Machado’s double and scored on Tommy Pham’s sacrifice fly. Freeman made it 2-1 by taking Darvish deep over the wall in left field with an opposite-field shot, his 22nd homer. Toussaint (1-0) walked two and struck out five in 6 2/3 innings. Darvish (7-4) was making his first start since July 8 after a stint on the injured list due to left hip inflammation. Fri Jul 9 202101:29Rookie pitcher hits slam off Scherzer, Padres overtake Nats
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Rookie reliever Daniel Camarena hit a stunning grand slam off Washington ace Max Scherzer and the San Diego Padres overcame an eight-run deficit, finally beating the Nationals 9-8 Thursday night on Trent Grisham’s RBI single in the ninth inning. The Padres matched the biggest comeback in franchise history, helped by Fernando Tatis’ 28th home run and Grisham’s two-out hit. But it was Camarena’s blow that really jolted the crowd at Petco Park. Camarena, who went to San Diego’s Cathedral Catholic High, was called up earlier in the day for his second stint with the Padres. He replaced Yu Darvish starting the fourth inning and allowed Trea Turner’s second homer of the game, a two-run drive that gave the Nationals an 8-0 lead. With the Padres’ bullpen taxed in recent days, manager Jayce Tingler had Camarena bat for himself against the struggling Scherzer with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth. The left-hander drove a 1-2 fastball into the right-field stands to send... [More]
Fri Jul 9 202100:19Urías becomes MLB's 1st 11-game winner, Dodgers beat Marlins
MIAMI (AP) — Julio Urías allowed Jazz Chisholm’s leadoff homer, then pitched shutout ball through the seventh inning for his major league-leading 11th win, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Miami Marlins 6-1 Thursday to avoid a four-game sweep. Urías (11-3) gave up just four more hits, struck out nine and walked two. Chris Taylor’s RBI single tied the score in the fourth. Matt Beaty singled in the go-ahead run in the fifth, chasing Sandy Alcantara (5-8_, and Will Smith hit a sacrifice fly off David Hess. Miami announced Don Mattingly will return for a seventh season in 2022. PHILLIES 8, CUBS 0 CHICAGO (AP) — Brad Miller hit three home runs in a game for the first time in his career and Philadelphia routed the sinking Cubs. Miller hit a solo drive in the third inning and added two-run homers in the fifth and seventh innings. With a chance at joining the other 18 players who have hit a record four home runs in a game, Miller popped up in the ninth. Zach Eflin (4-6) tossed six crisp innings... [More]
Thu Jun 24 202102:09Giants wait out Ohtani, beat Angels in 13 innings
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani struck out nine over six innings of one-run ball for the Angels, but the San Francisco Giants rallied for seven runs in the 13th inning of a 9-3 victory over Los Angeles on Wednesday. Steven Duggar had an RBI double in the 12th and a two-run single in the 13th for the Giants, who finally blew it open while the Angels had outfielder Taylor Ward playing catcher and starting pitcher Griffin Canning playing left field as the fallout from an untimely injury to Kurt Suzuki and a series of strategic decisions made to allow Ohtani to hit for himself. Mike Tauchman struck out five times before hitting a three-run homer to cap the Giants’ 13th-inning rally. Brandon Crawford put San Francisco ahead to stay with a bases-loaded walk from Alex Claudio (1-2), who walked three straight in the 13th. The 13-inning game matched the longest in the majors since the institution of the runner-on-second-base rule to open extra innings last season. Dominic Leone (1-0) won despite... [More]
