Viciedo has hit .273/.286/.364 in his first 55 at-bats for Triple-A Charlotte.

It seems like things remain the same for Viciedo -- a modicum of power and an absurdly low OBP. He has been playing first base exclusively during his current go-around with Charlotte, so he may backup Jose Abreu in Chicago in September.

Viciedo signed with the White Sox on Saturday and was promptly assigned to Triple-A Charlotte.

Viciedo returns to the White Sox organization after being released by the Athletics just a day earlier for poor performance. During his time with Charlotte, Scot Merkin of MLB.com reports that Viciedo will move to first base and only play in the outfield during emergency situations.

Viciedo was released Thursday by the Athletics' Triple-A affiliate in Nashville.

After failing to win a roster spot with the Blue Jays in spring training, Viciedo remained unemployed until signing a minor-league deal with the Athletics. He reported to Triple-A Nashville with the hope of working his way back into the big leagues, but after slashing a pedestrian .221/.282/.336 over 124 plate appearances, the Athletics decided to sever ties. He was replaced on Nashville's roster by third baseman Brent Morel.

Vocoedp signed with the Athletics on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.

Viciedo spent spring training with the Blue Jays but opted out of his contract when he failed to make the Opening Day roster. The 26-year-old appeared in 145 games for the White Sox last season, hitting .231 with 21 home runs, 58 RBI and 122 strikeouts. Viciedo will initially report to Triple-A Nashville.

No surprise here, as the idea of playing in the minor leagues probably doesn't have much appeal to a guy with 1,675 career at-bats in the majors. Of course, Viciedo may have a hard time finding a spot on a big-league roster, as he has increasingly developed a reputation as a one-trick pony.

After being scratched on Mar. 9 with a right foot infection, Viciedo wasted no time in returning and making an impact. Viciedo is fighting for a spot in the big leagues as an extra outfielder. He has hit well against lefties and if he makes the Blue Jays, could have value against left-handed pitching in daily leagues; however, it's best to take a wait-and-see approach to find out whether or not he cracks the major league roster.

Viciedo was scratched from Monday's Grapefruit League game with a right foot infection, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports.

Viciedo entered spring training fighting for a spot on the Opening Day roster, so missing extended time could impact his ability to earn a role in the big leagues. He likely won't be sidelined too long with the infection, but any setbacks could result in him starting the season with the Triple-A team.

This makes a lot of sense considering Michael Saunders is slated to miss four-to-six weeks with a knee injury, placing his status in doubt for Opening Day. Look for Viciedo to compete for a spot on the Jays' big league roster as an outfielder who can play against lefties, but it is also possible that he spends a good portion of the season at Triple-A. The best way to utilized Viciedo in fantasy would be in daily leagues when he's in the lineup against a southpaw.

The Reds contacted Viciedo after he was released by the White Sox but seem unlikely to sign him, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The Reds are content to cast their lot with Marlon Byrd in left field, and given that both he and Viciedo are right-handed hitters, adding Viciedo wouldn't create a platoon. "He wants more playing time than we can give him," GM Walt Jocketty said. "He wants to start or at least platoon."

Viciedo was released on Wednesday.

After a disappointing 2014 campaign in which Viciedo slashed just .231/.281/.405, the 25-year-old was designated for assignment last week. Now he'll be an outright free agent where he could command some interest from teams in need of outfield depth, but he may not receive regular at bats wherever he lands.

This move was necessary to open up a spot on the 40-man roster after the White Sox signed Gordon Beckham. On the surface it may seem that Viciedo would be an attractive option for several teams given his raw power from the right side. But it was no secret that Chicago was aggressively trying to trade him this winter, and clearly there was not a lot of interest. Any team that claims him will also get his $4.4 million contract, so it is more likely that he gets traded after clearing waivers, with the likely role of fourth outfielder on a team desperate for right-handed power.

The deal means the two sides avoid salary arbitration, though it's not clear what happens next as far as Viciedo's standing on the White Sox roster. With Melky Cabrera signed in free agency, there might not be a place left for Viciedo in the regular lineup. Despite his inconsistency as a hitter, Viciedo's uncommon power could make him a trade target to a team that has more use for him than the White Sox.

Viciedo may not be guaranted a spot in the White Sox's regular lineup after the team reportedly signed Melky Cabrera late Saturday night.

Viciedo has as much raw power as anyone, but he has yet to show much consistency through parts of five major league seasons. If Viciedo remains with the organization, then he will need to beat out Avisail Garcia for regular at-bats, or be relegated to reserve duty.

Viciedo is not in the lineup Friday against the Rays.

Michael Taylor will take over in left field Friday, as Viciedo sits following five consecutive starts. The 25-year-old Viciedo has hit four home runs so far this month to bring his total on the season to 21, marking the second time in three years he's hit 20-plus homers.

Viciedo is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Twins.

Viciedo should be in there to face lefty Tommy Milone in Game 2, though he is just 1-for-10 in his career against Milone. Jordan Danks will man left field in Game 1.

Viciedo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Oakland.

Viciedo was slotted into the every day starter role after the White Sox traded Alejandro De Aza, but this is the second time this week lefty Jordan Danks will fill in at left field against a right-hander. He has started against righties so it doesn't appear to be a platoon situation, but the team might elected to go with Danks some games against right-handed starters.

Viciedo is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Indians.

Viciedo tallied seven hits over the last five games he played, but he will sit out Saturday so that the White Sox can get another left-handed hitter -- Jordan Danks -- in the lineup against Indians ace righty Corey Kluber.

Viciedo should be ticketed for a return to near-everyday duties in the outfield following Saturday's trade of Alejandro De Aza to the Orioles.

The return of Avisail Garcia from the disabled list a few weeks ago forced Viciedo into a timeshare in left field with De Aza, but the trade of the latter presents an opening for Viciedo to claim the role back for himself. The 25-year-old Viciedo has frustrated the team's brass with his lack of on-base skills (.277 OBP over 480 plate appearances), but his above-average pop will continue to keep him on the radar in deeper mixed leagues.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Viciedo will likely platoon in left field with Alejandro De Aza with the return of Avisail Garcia, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

As the right-handed hitting member of a platoon arrangement, Viciedo will fall on the smaller side of the playing time divide if the White Sox stick strictly to matchups. To this point, Viciedo's 2014 numbers against lefties (.733 OPS) are only marginally better than what he's delivered against righties (.677).
