Mon Apr 1516:52Giancarlo Stanton Getting A Breather Monday
New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton will start on the bench on Monday versus the Toronto Blue Jays. With Stanton starting on the pine, outfielder Aaron Judge is serving as the designated hitter and batting third, while Trent Grisham gets the start in center field and will hit ninth against Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassett. Judge has hit .222 in nine career at-bats against Bassitt, while Grisham has hit .167 in just six career at-bats against Bassitt. The biggest takeaway for Stanton after the first 13 games of the 2024 season is that he's managed to stay healthy so far. In his 55 plate appearances to begin the year, he's gone 13-for-52 (.250) with four home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored. As long as he stays healthy, Stanton can always provide elite power numbers in a strong Yankees lineup.

Mon Apr 809:05Giancarlo Stanton Hits Grand Slam In Sunday's Win
New York Yankees designated hitterGiancarlo Stantonhit his first grand slam of the year in Sunday's 8-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. He launched a pitch from Blue Jays starterBowden Francisinto the left field seats. It was Stanton's only hit (1-for-4) in Sunday's win. Stanton is slashing .219/.242/.531 with three home runs and seven RBI, good for an OPS of .773 over 33 plate appearances in 2024. If Stanton can finally stay healthy for an entire season, he will be a great source of home runs and RBI, albeit with a low batting average and OBP. Look for Stanton to continue being that power source for the Yankees as long as he is healthy.

Sat Apr 601:01Giancarlo Stanton Struggling To Get Going
New York Yankees designated hitter/outfielder Giancarlo Stanton went hitless for the third straight game in Friday's 3-0 loss to the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays, striking out twice in four at-bats. As the Yankees were shut out in their home opener for the first time since 1967, Stanton's batting average dropped to a paltry .125 with 13 K's over his first 25 plate appearances of the year. It's way too early to give up on the 34-year-old five-time All-Star in fantasy, but he's now batting just .130 (3-for-23) with two RBI in six games against Toronto dating back to last season to boot. His playing time is safe for now, but all bets might be off when Jasson Dominguez (elbow) is ready to go later in 2024. Things won't get any easier for Stanton versus Jays ace Kevin Gausman on Saturday, but the veteran slugger is 6-for-17 with a homer and three RBI in 18 PAs against the right-hander in his career and will sport some contrarian DFS appeal in a tough matchup on paper.

Wed Apr 315:14Giancarlo Stanton Sitting Out Of Series Finale
New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton will start on the bench on Wednesday for the series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks. With Stanton getting a breather, Aaron Judge will serve as the DH and bat third, while Trent Grisham will get the start in center field and hit in the nine-hole against Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly. Stanton has gotten off to a slow start at the plate for the Yankees in the first five games of the 2024 season, going just 3-for-20 (.150) with a solo home run, a double, two runs scored and 11 strikeouts in his first 21 plate appearances. Judge will be looking for his first career hit against Kelly (he's had just two at-bats against him), while Grisham is currently hitting .182 in 22 career at-bats against Kelly.

Sat Mar 3016:36Giancarlo Stanton Absent From Saturday's Lineup Versus Houston
New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Houston Astros. Aaron Judge will be used as the team's primary designated hitter, while Trent Grisham will start in center field tonight against Houston. Look for manager Aaron Boone to mix and match his outfielders and to give Judge a day off from the grass to be the designated hitter. Grisham was acquired by the Yankees this offseason in the Juan Soto deal, and he signed a contract with the team for a one-year, $5.5 million to avoid arbitration. The 27-year-old will enter the Yankees' lineup for the first time this season. Fantasy managers can avoid using Grisham as a streamer or in DFS in a tough matchup against Houston's right-hander Hunter Brown.

Wed Mar 2021:53Giancarlo Stanton Erupts For Three Homers, Eight RBI
New York Yankees designated hitter/outfielder Giancarlo Stanton went off in Wednesday's 12-0 Grapefruit League rout of the Pittsburgh Pirates, smashing three home runs and piling up eight RBI. Stanton went deep for a towering two-run homer in the first inning, crushed a grand slam during the second frame, and launched a solo blast in the fourth just for good measure. And just like that, the 34-year-old slugger is now batting .314 (11-for-35) with four long balls, 10 RBI, and a 1.073 OPS this spring. Stanton's All-Star days might be behind him after a miserable 2023 saw him register a career-worst .191/.275/.420 triple-slash line across 415 plate appearances, but he'll open the 2024 season as the everyday designated hitter in the heart of the order in a loaded Yankees lineup. His playing time should be safe until Jasson Dominguez (elbow) returns later in the summer, and Stanton's 220 NFBC ADP should rise a bit following Wednesday's explosion.

Sun Mar 1708:51Giancarlo Stanton Crushes First Home Run Of Spring
New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton clobbered his first home run of the spring on Saturday in a 10-9 Grapefruit League win over the Blue Jays. The 34-year-old demolished a 1-0 fastball from Jays pitcher Paolo Espino and finished the day 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored. It took Stanton 25 at-bats to hit his first homer and he's batting just .250 (7-for-28) in ten spring games, but at least he's healthy after missing 61 games last season. As long as he's in the lineup he should be a viable source of power and is available at the end of most drafts. Currently projected to hit 26 home runs over 104 games this season, if the former MVP can eclipse that number he could be a value.

Mon Feb 1914:12Giancarlo Stanton Slimmer This Year
New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is noticeably slimmer at camp and said his offseason workouts were aimed at allowing him to "be a baseball player again." Stanton said he needs to be more mobile, which is why he did more running during the offseason. In addition to focusing on his conditioning, Stanton made some slight changes to his swing over the winter in hopes of bouncing back in 2024 after hitting just .191/.275/.420 with 24 home runs, 13 doubles, 60 RBI and 43 runs scored in 415 trips to the plate over 101 games played. The 34-year-old veteran slugger's injury history is well-documented and has caused his fantasy stock to fall considerably in recent years. It will drive his draft-day cost down, but with better health in 2024, Stanton could be a nice value play for those looking for elite power.

Tue Jan 913:28Giancarlo Stanton Unlikely To Be Traded
The Athletic's Chris Kirschner believes that New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is essentially untradeable. Since the 2022 All-Star break, Stanton has hit .182/.268/.400 with 31 home runs and an 84 wRC+ in 549 plate appearances. He's owed over $98 million over the next four years and has a full no-trade clause. Not many teams will be rushing to trade for that kind of salary given Stanton's high injury risk. He has one of the worst contracts in the game. The only way the Yankees might be able to deal him is by paying a sizeable portion of the money he's owed while also attaching prospects. Another thing going against Stanton is that since 2022, he has hit .175/.258/.337 with only eight home runs and 77 strikeouts against fastballs 95 mph or harder.

Thu Oct 5 202319:02Giancarlo Stanton To Alter Stance In 2024?
New York Yankees hitting coach Sean Casey said outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton "is just a little careful" with his swing and should consider trying his old batting stance. The former MVP looked all kinds of lost during a dismal 2023 campaign that saw him slash a career-low .191/.275/.420 with 24 home runs, 13 doubles, and 60 RBI covering 371 at-bats (101 games). Stanton's albatross of a contract has him on the books for at least four more seasons with a full no-trade clause, so the Yankees will search for whatever answers they can find to help the five-time All-Star rediscover his form. Stanton is a way-too-early 2024 fantasy rebound candidate by default while bound to be carrying his lowest ADP in recent memory, but he's still likely to be a liability in the batting average and stolen bases categories.

Sun Oct 1 202313:17Giancarlo Stanton Taking A Seat For The Season Finale
New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Kansas City Royals. Unless he steps in as a pinch-hitter on Sunday, the 33-year-old will finish a wildly disappointing 2023 season with a .191/.275/.420 batting line to go along with 24 home runs and 60 RBI over 371 at-bats in 101 games. Kyle Higashioka is filling in as the Yankees designated hitter against Zack Greinke as the Royals on Sunday.

Fri Sep 29 202318:35Giancarlo Stanton To Sit Out On Friday
New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals. This appears to be a routine rest day for the veteran slugger. Stanton has struggled this season, he's slashing .191/.275/.420 with 24 home runs and 60 RBI in 101 games. The expectation is that Stanton will play in the final two games of the regular season. In the meantime, Oswaldo Cabrera will cover right field and bat eighth versus right-hander Jordan Lyles on Friday.

Mon Sep 25 202312:58Giancarlo Stanton Not Playing Monday
New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is getting the day off on Monday with the Arizona Diamondbacks in town. Aaron Judge is serving as the designated hitter and batting in the two-hole, while rookie Everson Pereira (hamstring) returns to left field and the nine-hole against Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly. Stanton is in a funk at the plate in the month of September, going 6-for-55 (.109) with four home runs, seven RBI, 25 strikeouts and seven runs scored in 15 starts. He has just two hits (one homer) and 13 strikeouts in his last eight starts since Sept. 12, so he's been out of the lineup three times in the last four games.

Tue Sep 12 202318:47Giancarlo Stanton To Sit Out For Nightcap
New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is out of the starting lineup for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Boston Red Sox. The veteran slugger went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts during the first game of the day. After that, the Yankees decided to give me a breather and let him have the night off. Aaron Judge will serve as the designated hitter, while Oswaldo Cabrera starts in right field versus right-hander Kutter Crawford on Tuesday.

Mon Sep 11 202314:36Giancarlo Stanton Hits Big Home Run Sunday
New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the 12th inning on Sunday in an eventual 4-3 win over the visiting Milwaukee Brewers in 13 innings. Stanton finished the day going 1-for-3 with the home run, two RBI, a run scored, two walks and a strikeout. The 33-year-old veteran slugger now has 23 home runs, 57 RBI and 42 runs scored on the year to go along with a .200/.282/.442 slash line. Fantasy managers can't count on Stanton to hit for average at this point of his career, and he's gone just 4-for-25 (.160) with three home runs, six RBI, 12 strikeouts and six runs scored in seven starts so far in the month of September.

Wed Sep 6 202300:15Giancarlo Stanton Joins 400-Homer Club Tuesday
New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton made history in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Tigers. Stanton went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and three strikeouts. The 33-year-old now has 400 career HR and became the fourth-fastest player by games in Major League history to achieve that mark. This is his second consecutive season with a dip in average, but Stanton has still hit for plenty of power, slashing .205/.281/.448 with 22 HR and 55 RBI in 352 plate appearances. He should continue to offer fantasy value as long as he can hit the ball out of the park.

Sun Sep 3 202316:50Giancarlo Stanton Taking A Seat Sunday Night
New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is not in the starting lineup Sunday night versus the Houston Astros and right-hander Cristian Javier. Stanton went 1-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts and a run scored in Saturday's victory over Houston but will take a seat for the series finale while slugger Aaron Judge will handle DH duties for the Bombers on Sunday in Houston. It's been a disappointing season for the former NL MVP as Stanton is hitting just .204 with 21 home runs and a .723 OPS across 85 appearances, production that grades out 5% below the league average, as per his 95 wRC+.

Thu Aug 24 202318:00Giancarlo Stanton Tallies Four Hits In Loss To The Nationals
New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton went 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, and two RBI in a 6-5 loss to the Washington Nationals on Thursday. Stanton had himself a day at the dish, notching his first four-hit contest of the season. The 33-year-old made things interesting in the bottom of the eighth inning when he took reliever Jordan Weems deep for his 19th home run of the season to pull the Yankees within one run. The Nationals tacked on a run in the top of the ninth before Stanton notched an RBI single to score Oswald Peraza in the bottom of the frame. Unfortunately, for the Yankees, that would be as close as they got as they would go on to lose for the ninth time in the last 10 games. Stanton, who's been limited to just 77 games this year due to injury, is now slashing .204/.285/.444 with 19 home runs and 47 RBI over 279 at-bats. The Yankees now find themselves 10 games back of the third and final Wild Card spot in the American League.

Thu Aug 24 202318:00Giancarlo Stanton Breaks Out With Four Hits In Loss
New York Yankees designated hitter/outfielder Giancarlo Stanton went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Thursday's 6-5 loss to the Washington Nationals. The 33-year-old needed a shot in the arm in a huge way on the heels of a dreadful 6-for-52 (.115) slump with just two extra-base hits in his previous 15 games. Stanton crushed an eighth-inning solo bomb to make it a one-run ballgame late. After Washington got an insurance run across, Stanton drove in one more during the ninth. It was his first outing of the year recording at least three knocks. The five-time All-Star remains a fringe hold in shallow leagues for his power prospects, but a woeful average and lack of speed significantly hinder the fantasy appeal. Stanton is now slashing .204/.285/.444 with 19 homers, 10 doubles, and 47 RBI in 312 trips to the dish this year.

Tue Aug 1 202316:00Giancarlo Stanton Sitting Tuesday
New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is not in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. Aaron Judge is still serving as the designated hitter and batting second, while Jake Bauers is in right field and hitting leadoff against Rays right-hander Zach Eflin. Stanton has started the last 18 games, so it's a good time for him to take a little break after hitting under .200 over that stretch. The 33-year-old slugger continues to sacrifice contact for power. Stanton is currently hitting just .198 with a .274 on-base percentage, 14 home runs and 35 RBI on the season in 207 at-bats. In the month of July, he hit .198 (17-for-86) with seven homers, two doubles, 16 RBI and 12 runs scored in 23 games.
