NEW YORK (AP) — The Mets have signed reliever Arquimedes Caminero and outfielder Rymer Liriano to minor league contracts, adding depth in two areas where New York appeared thin.The team announced the moves Thursday, saying both players were invited to major league spring training.Caminero spent the past two seasons with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan. The 31-year-old righty was 1-1 with 11 saves and a 5.79 ERA over 20 games last year before having elbow surgery. He is pitching this offseason in the Dominican Winter League and had thrown five scoreless innings.Caminero had 29 saves and 65 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings for the Yomiuri Giants in 2017. He is 7-5 with a 3.83 ERA in 149 big league games with Pittsburgh, Miami and Seattle.The 27-year-old Liriano is a .220 career hitter with two home runs in 59 major league games with the San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox. Caminero, who came into Seattle blazing after Pittsburgh put him on waivers, earning the role of setup man, has struggled in recent outings. He's given up 10 hits over his past five appearances, allowing 10 runs (six earned) in the process. Caminero had his worst outing as a Mariner on Friday, when he came on in the ninth inning of an 11-4 lead and promptly gave up four runs off four hits.

RHP Arquimedes Caminero endured his second consecutive rough outing after beginning his Seattle career with some dominant performances as a setup man. Caminero, who was acquired from Pittsburgh on Aug. 6, allowed one run off two hits in Friday's seventh inning.

RHP Arquimedes Caminero threw 12 pitches, 11 fastballs, in one inning of relief on Saturday. One fastball was clocked at 99 mph, another at 98 and none was slower than 96. His lone slider was timed at 89 mph.

Caminero faced one batter Monday, Nolan Arenado, and retired him on a fly ball but not before brushing him back with an upper-90s heater.

The play could potentially carry over to Tuesday's tilt, as Caminero sent Arenado scurrying with his team boasting a comfortable six-run advantage. The hard-throwing righty has provided the Bucs with mediocre relief work in September, allowing six earned runs in nine innings. Despite his shakiness, he's actually been equal to or better than Joakim Soria.

Caminero struck out six batters in 2.1 innings of relief against the Cubs on Tuesday.

After getting belted around for most of July, Caminero has strung together four straight scoreless outings. It seemed as though he might be in jeopardy of losing his spot in the bullpen, but he's settled into a lesser role quite nicely. He was a bright spot -- he threw 30 of 42 pitches for strikes -- on a night Pittsburgh would probably like to forget.

Caminero has allowed earned runs in five of his last nine outings, jeopardizing his long-term status as the team's seventh-inning set-up man.

He came through with 2.84 ERA and eight holds in June, but has given up three homers and hit three batters in his last nine. Fortunately for Caminero, the team really has no other options, giving the flamethrower a slightly longer leash.

Caminero picked up the win despite giving up two earned runs in Sunday's victory over the Cardinals.

Caminero was fortunate to not walk away with the loss, much less pick up the win after giving up two runs in the top of the 10th inning. Caminero currently holds a 4.12 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP with 13 holds on the season.
