Wed Feb 5 201417:09Orioles sign Jack Cust to minor league deal
Orioles signed OF Jack Cust to a minor league contract.
The deal does not include an invitation to spring training, meaning Cust will be on the minor league side of Orioles camp. The 35-year-old did not play affiliated ball in 2013 and is a longshot to make an impact for the O's.

Sat Jan 18 201417:23O's still undecided on whether to sign Cust
The Orioles are still trying to decide whether to sign Jack Cust, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports.
Cust worked out for the team for three days this past week in Sarasota but left without an offer. Kubatko said the feeling is the team would likely sign the 35-year-old if he's willing to begin the year at Triple-A Norfolk. The left-handed hitter may not get a better offer after being released by the Rays last March and sitting out the entire 2013 season.

Mon Jan 13 201419:11Jack Cust to work out for Orioles Tuesday
MASN's Roch Kubatko reports that Jack Cust will work out for the Orioles on Tuesday at their minicamp.
Kubatko also adds that it was Cust that contacted the O's about a job. It's possible he could net a minor league deal if the workout goes well, but he'd obviously be a longshot to make the Opening Day roster. Slated to turn 35 on Thursday, Cust didn't play organized ball in 2013.

Mon Jan 13 201414:42Orioles considering deal with FA Jack Cust
MASN's Roch Kubatko reports that the Orioles are considering doing a minor league deal with Jack Cust.
Cust has not appeared in a major league game since 2011 and did not play affiliated ball in 2013. It would be an organizational depth signing for the Orioles, who will meet with Cust this week at their Florida minicamp.

Jack Cust struck out all three times he was up Sunday against the Red Sox.
Cust was a long shot to make the Rays after being signed to a minor league deal last month, and he's done nothing to help his case while going 3-for-17 with no RBI so far this month.

Sun Feb 17 201308:13Jack Cust signs with Rays
Rays signed DH Jack Cust to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Cust is a longshot to make the Opening Day roster after the Rays re-signed Luke Scott, but he'll represent depth at Triple-A. The 34-year-old spent all of 2012 at the Triple-A level, batting .243/.400/.442 with 20 homers and 72 RBI in 114 games.

Tue Nov 6 201212:33Jack Cust elects free agency.
Jack Cust has elected free agency.
The 33-year-old slugger spent the 2012 season terrorizing Triple-A pitching to the tune of .243/.400/.442 with 20 homers and 72 RBI in 114 games between two organizations. While he has always struggled to make consistent contact, Cust has always shown the ability to get on base and hit for power, which should be enough to generate a spring training invite.

Sat Aug 4 201215:16Blue Jays sign Jack Cust to minors deal
Blue Jays signed DH Jack Cust to a minor league contract.
Cust was released by the Yankees earlier this week after batting .249/.400/.475 with 20 homers and 66 RBI at the Triple-A level. He's not worthy of a major league roster spot, so he'll continue to serve as organization depth.

Wed Aug 1 201222:09Jack Cust released
Yankees released DH Jack Cust.
Cust was batting .249/.400/.475 with 20 homers and 66 RBI for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but the Yankees have apparently decided they'd be better served giving playing time to others. The 33-year-old should be able to catch on somewhere else if he wants, though it's possible he'll just decide to shut it down until next year.

Wed Mar 28 201212:38Yanks sign Jack Cust to minor league deal
Yankees signed DH Jack Cust to a minor league contract.
Cust was released by the Astros on Tuesday after battling an elbow injury while collecting just one hit in 25 at-bats this spring. His power has faded a bit over the past couple of years, but he still knows how to draw a walk. The 33-year-old will serve as insurance at the Triple-A level.

Tue Mar 27 201221:25Cust to sign with National League team
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that Jack Cust will sign a minor league deal with a National League team.
It won't be the Rockies and it's also fair to take the Astros out of the mix, since they released him Tuesday morning. Cust went just 1-for-25 this spring and is unlikely to crack a major league roster anytime soon.

Tue Mar 27 201208:38Astros release OF Jack Cust, LHP Zach Duke
Astros released OF Jack Cust.
Cust signed a one-year, $600,000 major league contract with the Astros this winter and was expected to open the 2012 regular season as an active pinch-hitter. But he collected just one hit in 25 at-bats this spring while battling elbow issues, effectively playing his way out of a 25-man roster spot. The Astros also released left-hander Zach Duke on Tuesday morning.

Tue Feb 28 201222:40Cust sits out after tweaking right knee
Jack Cust skipped baserunning sprints Tuesday after tweaking his right knee.
"He bent over for a ball and felt something in the back of his knee and the trainers didn't want him to run on it," said Astros manager Brad Mills. "I talked to him and he doesn't think it's that bad." Cust is scheduled to be reevaluated Wednesday.

Wed Jan 18 201212:24Astros ink OF Cust to one-year deal
Astros signed OF Jack Cust to a one-year, $600,000 contract with a club option for 2013.
This deal looked like a real head-scratcher at first, but it's a little more reasonable under these terms. Cust, 33, batted .213/.334/.329 with three home runs, 23 RBI and a .673 OPS over 270 plate appearances before being released by the Mariners last August. He'll function as a left-handed bat off the bench for the Astros this season and with any luck, the club could have a cheap option at DH in 2013. We wouldn't bank on a sudden turnaround, but with such a minimal guarantee, it's worth a shot.

Tue Jan 17 201223:09Astros, Cust agree to 1-yr deal with option
Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros and Jack Cust have agreed to a one-year deal with a club option for 2013.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com previously reported that Cust was getting a two-year deal, so this at least makes a little more sense. Still, it's surprising to see the 33-year-old get anything more than a spring training invite after hitting .213 with three homers and .673 OPS over 270 plate appearances last season with the Mariners. Cust is regarded as a terrible defender, so he will likely function as a left-handed bat of the bench in 2012.

Sat Aug 20 201118:06Phillies release DH/OF Jack Cust
Phillies released DH/OF Jack Cust.
That didn't take long. Cust inked a minor-league deal eight days ago and posted an .848 OPS in 23 plate appearances for Triple-A Lehigh Valley before Philadelphia pulled the plug on him. He hit .213 while homering just three times in 67 games for the Mariners this season, but still managed to reach base at a clip of .344 in 270 plate appearances. The 32-year-old could still interest another organization as a left-handed bat off the bench, but he'll probably need to accept another assignment to a Triple-A affiliate.

Fri Aug 12 201111:59Phillies ink Jack Cust to minor-league deal
Phillies signed DH/OF Jack Cust to a minor-league contract.
Cust hit .213 while homering just three times in 67 games for the Mariners this season, but still managed to reach base at a clip of .344 in 270 plate appearances. However, he's an extreme liability on defense, and could be limited to pinch-hitting duties if he gets the call to Philadelphia.
