He gave up three hits and struck out one to keep the game close after Jon Lester's relatively early exit. Mortensen has now pitched three are more innings in all three appearances since last week's call-up. A solid contributor in last season's Rockies rotation, the 27-year-old has a good chance to remain in the bigs with a 0.96 ERA and 0.64 WHIP.

Mortensen was the only one that had a real chance to make the Opening Day roster as a long man, but he failed to do so despite not allowing a run in six spring innings. Tazawa made it back from Tommy John surgery in the middle of last season. It's not clear whether he'll start or relieve for Pawtucket.
