RHP Arnold Leon was designated for assignment Wednesday to make room on the roster for L/RHP Pat Venditte. In two games with the Blue Jays this season, Leon was 0-0 with a 7.71 ERA over 2 1/3 innings. He allowed three hits, including a home run, one walk and two runs. Last season, in 19 games with the Oakland Athletics, he was 0-2 with a 4.39 ERA over 26 2/3 innings. The Blue Jays obtained him the A's after they designated him for assignment.

The right-hander rode shuttle between Nashville and Oakland all season, coming up on five different occasions prior to Tuesday's recall, but he'll stick with the big club this time around with every team now having 40 active roster spots. Leon has struggled in a small sample with Oakland but turned in strong numbers with Nashville this season (2.95 ERA, 1.22 WHIP).

Leon was optioned back to Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

Leon will head back to Nashville after a little less than two weeks with the big league club during this latest call-up. The move clears a spot for Brad Mills, who will come up from Triple-A to start Friday's contest in Baltimore.

Leon was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Monday.

Leon has bounced between Triple-A and the MLB all season, posting solid numbers in both. Over his past 10 appearances in Triple-A, Leon has been excellent, posting a 1.53 ERA and a sub-1 WHIP in 17.2 innings while posting a 15:2 K:BB ratio. He and Coco Crisp will replace Jake Smolinksi and Dan Otero in Oakland.

Leon was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

Leon's time with the A's was short this time around as he was recalled Thursday, threw 3.1 innings against Toronto, and was then optioned back to Triple-A on Friday. The A's swapped righty relievers by recalling Angel Castro in a corresponding move.

The A's freed up a roster spot by dealing Scott Kazmir to Houston on Thursday, so Leon will come up to take his place. Leon last appeared in a game for the big league club in mid-June, and he holds a 4.26 ERA with eight strikeouts across 6.1 innings on the season.

With Edward Mujica coming off the DL, Leon was the one to give up his job in the bullpen. He will offer organizational depth from the Triple-A level.

Leon worked as a starter with Triple-A Nashville and was an option to fill the open spot in Oakland's rotation, but that is expected to go to Kendall Graveman. Expect Leon to pitch in middle-to-long relief for the A's.

Leon has struggled through his first two starts with Triple-A Nashville this season as he's allowed seven runs and 11 hits in just 8.1 innings pitched, but he'll join the big league team to provide added depth to the bullpen. The Athletics' pitchers have been heavily taxed of late, so his big league stint may only last as long as it takes other relievers to get rested.

After a rough 2014 where Leon posted a 4.97 ERA, he came into spring with very little chance to make the team. This will be his third year as a full-time starter and he will need to show some progress limiting base runners in 2015.
