Giants signed RHP Andrew Carignan to a minor league contract.
Carignan needed Tommy John surgery in mid-2012 and then underwent a procedure to repair labrum damage in his right shoulder this past summer. "I'm just looking for an opportunity to get out there," Carignan told the Norwich Bulletin about his new deal with San Francisco. "It's been a rough couple years with those injuries and the rehab. I was a free agent after last year so I was looking for an opportunity and the Giants came and gave me one."

Andrew Carignan (elbow) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Tuesday.
Carignan, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery, will repeat the session twice a week for about five more weeks. The A's are hoping he'll be available to rejoin the bullpen by late June.

Athletics transferred RHP Andrew Carignan from the 15-day disabled to the 60-day disabled list.
It's just a procedural move, as Carignan is already out for the season with a sprained UCL. Oakland claimed Danny Farquhar off waivers from Toronto and added him to the 40-man roster in a corresponding move.

Andrew Carignan confirmed late Wednesday night that he needs Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.
It was hinted at as soon as Carignan was diagnosed (earlier this week) with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament. He's obviously done for the rest of the 2012 season and will likely struggle to make it back before the All-Star break in 2013. Carignan posted a 4.66 ERA in 9 2/3 innings this year.

It's not yet known who will take his place on the active roster. Carignan walked three and threw just 10 of 25 pitches in Monday's game and has allowed three runs over 4 2/3 innings (6.23 ERA) this season.
