The 37-year-old Johnson appeared in 113 games this past season, hitting just .235/.266/.348 with 25 RBI, 15 doubles and two home runs. He'll look to catch on with another club in search of a veteran outfielder.

Johnson will sit for the third game in a row, giving way to Garrett Jones in right field. He's hit well recently, but with the season winding down, the Marlins appear to be turning more to their younger players.

Johnson has started four of the last five games in right field, but will give way to Enrique Hernandez on Sunday afternoon. Although he has five hits over his last four games, the Marlins may elect to continue to sit the 37-year-old in an effort to take a longer look at their younger outfielders.

Johnson got the start in right field Sunday, but went 0-for-4 with a strikeout, dropping his average to .215 on the season.

The Marlins mixed and matched their outfield over the weekend in the first series since Giancarlo Stanton sustained an injury that is likely to end his season. Johnson could continue to see time against left-handed pitching, against which he's posted a .279/.297/.377 slash line, but his limitations at the plate are likely to keep him on the bench more often than not.

Johnson singled and scored a valuable insurance run for the Marlins after entering as a pinch hitter in Tuesday's win over the Nationals.

With Miami boasting a trio of talented young outfielders and Jordany Valdespin's recent time in the outfield, there just have not been many at-bats for Johnson who has made just one start since the beginning of July. The sparse playing time has not been helpful to Johnson's batting line, and he's largely struggled for the past month, but with pinch-hits in back-to-back games perhaps Johnson is turning things around at the dish.

Johnson doesn't play much, but the 37-year-old has performed whenever called upon in 2014. Coming off a season in which he slashed just .244/.311/.341 in 136 plate appearances, Johnson had put up a .340/.370/.560 in 50 at-bats. Because his playing time is sporadic, Johnson can only be used in deep NL-only formats.
