Johnson (foot) was activated from the 60-day disabled list Saturday.
Johnson has been out since late April because of a foot and then oblique issue, but it appears he'll finally rejoin the club. He probably won't see much playing time over the last week of the season outside of pinch hitting. In a corresponding move, Denard Span was transferred to the 60-day DL to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.

Johnson (foot) was pulled off his rehab assignment after sneezing and suffering and pulling an oblique muscle, Jacob Emert of MLB.com reports.
Johnson continues to work his way back from a foot injury, but an unfortunate accident will push him back further yet. Even when healthy, it wouldn't be surprising if there's no spot for him on the 25-man roster.

Johnson (foot) joined High-A Potomac on Thursday to begin a rehab assignment, the Washington Post's James Wagner reports.
Johnson has been out since late April after undergoing foot surgery. He is unlikely to be given a significant role on the big league club, even if he can prove himself healthy for the stretch run.
Sat Jul 18 201511:07Johnson (foot) has begun taking batting practice
Johnson (foot) has begun taking batting practice, the Washington Post reports.
Afteer undergoing foot surgery in May, Johnson might yet provide the Nats with some outfield depth before the end of the regular season.
Fri Jun 26 201514:26Johnson (foot) transferred to 60-day disabled list Friday
Johnson (foot) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Friday, the Nationals' official website reports.
It's merely a procedural transaction to free up a spot on the 40-man roster. Johnson is hoping to join the Nationals in September or October, but he may end up missing the rest of the season.
Fri May 8 201516:36Johnson (foot) hopes to rejoin Nationals in September or October
Johnson (foot) hopes to rejoin the Nationals in September or October, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.
Johnson won't even be able to jog for 8-to-10 weeks, and he isn't expected to resume baseball activities until the 12-week mark. Given that he had the surgery at the beginning of May, a return before September would be highly surprising.

Johnson underwent minor surgery Saturday to repair a damaged tendon in his left foot, The Washington Post reports.
This was first reported as a foot injury, and then a calf strain, but it turns out the first diagnosis was closer to the truth. Reed is expected to return before the end of the season, but he won't be back by the All-Star break. There's no guarantee he'll have a role with the big-league club once he's healthy.
Wed Apr 29 201514:31Johnson (left calf strain) placed on 15-day DL on Wednesday
Johnson (left calf strain) was placed on the 15-day DL on Wednesday.
The injury was originally reported as a foot injury, but now that we know he has a calf strain he will be out indefinitely. Johnson was a bench bat who was being used sparingly so this should have minimal fantasy impact.

Johnson pulled a muscle under his foot Tuesday and will be out indefinitely, CSN Mid-Atlantic's Mark Zuckerman reports.
Johnson apparently felt something pop, and Zuckerman reports that it sounds like Johnson will be out awhile. There will undoubtedly be tests performed Tuesday night or Wednesday morning to get a better diagnosis, and a DL stint could be forthcoming.
Sun Apr 12 201510:37Johnson got start in left field on Saturday, going 1-4
Johnson got the start in left field on Saturday, going 1-for-4.
Jayson Werth (shoulder) could come off the DL as soon as Monday, which may cost Johnson his roster spot. Even in a deep NL-only league where every at-bat is precious, Johnson probably isn't worth picking up.
Sun Apr 5 201518:24Johnson will make Nationals' Opening Day roster
Johnson will make the Nationals' Opening Day roster, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.
Johnson may have been a bit of a long shot to earn a roster spot out of camp initially, but with three Washington outfielders opening the year on the DL, the 38-year-old veteran will get his chance. He'll compete with Tyler Moore and Michael Taylor for reps until Jayson Werth (shoulder) and Denard Span (abdominal) are ready to return.
Mon Mar 30 201518:27Johnson signed minor league contract with Nationals on Monday
Johnson signed a minor league contract with the Nationals on Monday, Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports.
Johnson was granted his unconditional release from the Marlins earlier Monday, and has already found a new home. With Denard Span expected to begin the season on the disabled list, Johnson could be a candidate for a roster spot. However, the Nats traded for Matt den Dekker on Monday as well, likely making him the favorite for the reserve outfield spot. However, Johnson will be available should other outfielders suffer an injury.
Mon Mar 30 201509:50Johnson given unconditional release by Marlins
Johnson has been given his unconditional release by the Marlins, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
With Ichiro Suzuki positioned as the fourth outfielder, Johnson's role would have been minimal if he had made the Opening Day roster. It's possible that he'll latch on elsewhere as a depth option, but at age-38, it's no guarantee.
Tue Feb 17 201516:11Reed Johnson: Signs With Marlins
Johnson and the Marlins have agreed to a minor league contract that includes an invite to major league spring training.
After electing to become a free agent back in October, Johnson will now rejoin the Marlins, looking for a shot to make the Opening Day roster. His extensive major league experience could help his bid, but he posted an ugly .235/.266/.348 slash line over 201 plate appearances for the Marlins last season. Johnson will likely be in the mix for the fourth and fifth outfield spots, along with the likes of Ichiro Suzuki and Jeff Baker.
Thu Oct 30 201413:19Johnson has elected to become free agent
Johnson has elected to become a free agent, Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reports.
Johnson, Kevin Gregg, Brad Penny and Rafael Furcal all elected to become free agents for the Marlins on Thursday. The 37-year-old Johnson appeared in 113 games this past season, hitting just .235/.266/.348 with 25 RBI, 15 doubles and two home runs. He'll look to catch on with another club in search of a veteran outfielder.
Wed Sep 24 201415:08Johnson out of lineup Wednesday against Phillies
Johnson is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Phillies, Juan C. Rodriguez of the Sun Sentinel reports.
Johnson will sit for the third game in a row, giving way to Garrett Jones in right field. He's hit well recently, but with the season winding down, the Marlins appear to be turning more to their younger players.
Sun Sep 21 201412:06Johnson out of lineup Sunday against Nationals
Johnson is out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.
Johnson has started four of the last five games in right field, but will give way to Enrique Hernandez on Sunday afternoon. Although he has five hits over his last four games, the Marlins may elect to continue to sit the 37-year-old in an effort to take a longer look at their younger outfielders.

Johnson got the start in right field Sunday, but went 0-for-4 with a strikeout, dropping his average to .215 on the season.
The Marlins mixed and matched their outfield over the weekend in the first series since Giancarlo Stanton sustained an injury that is likely to end his season. Johnson could continue to see time against left-handed pitching, against which he's posted a .279/.297/.377 slash line, but his limitations at the plate are likely to keep him on the bench more often than not.

Johnson singled and scored a valuable insurance run for the Marlins after entering as a pinch hitter in Tuesday's win over the Nationals.
With Miami boasting a trio of talented young outfielders and Jordany Valdespin's recent time in the outfield, there just have not been many at-bats for Johnson who has made just one start since the beginning of July. The sparse playing time has not been helpful to Johnson's batting line, and he's largely struggled for the past month, but with pinch-hits in back-to-back games perhaps Johnson is turning things around at the dish.
Thu May 15 201401:36Johnson corks a homer in blowout of Dodgers
Reed Johnson went 2-for-5 with a homer in the rout of the Dodgers on Wednesday.
Johnson doesn't play much, but the 37-year-old has performed whenever called upon in 2014. Coming off a season in which he slashed just .244/.311/.341 in 136 plate appearances, Johnson had put up a .340/.370/.560 in 50 at-bats. Because his playing time is sporadic, Johnson can only be used in deep NL-only formats.
