May was designated for assignment last week. The 26-year-old catcher batted .283/.349/.483 with 16 homers and 59 RBI between Double- and Triple-A last season, so it's a little surprising he didn't draw more interest on the waiver wire.

Royals designated C Lucas May for assignment.
May should draw serious interest from major league teams seeking depth at catcher. The 25-year-old posted an .831 OPS and 16 home runs in 104 minor league games (mostly at Triple-A) last season. Those stats are inflated by the power-friendly Pacific Coast League, but he has a decent power bat.

Wed Sep 1 201013:17Royals recall Lucas May from minors
Royals recalled C Lucas May from Triple-A Omaha.
May was acquired from the Dodgers in the Scott Podsednik trade last month. The 25-year-old catcher has batted .283/.349/.483 with 16 homers and 59 RBI in 375 at-bats with Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Albuquerque (Dodgers) and Triple-A Omaha (Royals) this season. Keep in mind that May spent most of the year in the hitter-friendly PCL, but he does have pretty good power for a catcher. It's his ability behind the plate that remains a work in progress, however.
