Jason Beck of MLB.com reports that Mick Billmeyer has been named the Tigers bullpen coach.
Billmeyer had been a coach in the Phillies organization for the past 10 seasons, serving as the bullpen coach and catching instructor since 2008. The 49-year-old was dismissed after the 2013 season.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that Wally Joyner will be named as the Tigers hitting coach.
It was reported earlier in the afternoon by Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly that Joyner was leaving the Phillies organization where he served as an assistant hitting coach in 2013. Joyner is a former teammate of Tigers skipper Brad Ausmus.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus has retained pitching coach Jeff Jones for the 2014 season.
Jones has worked as a coach for the Tigers since 2006, serving as the pitching coach the past three seasons. The Tigers also added Dave Clark as their third base coach and outfield instructor. Clark had spent the previous five seasons as a coach with the Astros.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus announced during Sunday's press conference that he'll retain bench coach Gene Lamont for the 2014 season.
Ausmus was quick to note his familiarity with Lamont, and indicated that he would've been his top choice as bench coach regardless of where he was. Lamont's experience and familiarity with the club should help to quell any concerns about Ausmus' lack of managerial experience. He also indicated the the team is in the process of evaluating potential pitching coaches, with incumbent Jeff Jones fully in the mix.

Brad Ausmus announced his retirement after the Dodgers' last game of the 2010 season.
Ausmus has struggled to stay healthy the last couple of years and didn't amass even 200 plate appearances over those last two seasons combined, so it was probably time for the 41-year-old to hang 'em up. He finishes with a .251/.325/.343 line that does a good job approximating his offensive value, but it was his work behind the plate that afforded him a 17-year career.

Brad Ausmus said Saturday that he will retire at the end of the season.
This year is it,'' Ausmus said plainly. The 41-year-old backup catcher has spent most of the year rehabbing a back injury and is just 2-for-8 with a double and an RBI in the two games in which he has been able to participate. He currently stands as a .252/.325/.345 career hitter over 17 seasons.

Brad Ausmus (back) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment shortly after the All-Star break.
Ausmus has been taking swings without discomfort for a few weeks and began running the bases with ease several days ago. He has been on the disabled list since undergoing back surgery in April and is aiming for a late July return to the big leagues. Hopefully he can avoid setbacks along the way.

"My swing hasn't felt good for decades," Ausmus joked Sunday. "I feel a little soreness sometimes, but it feels pretty good." The catcher underwent surgery on his lower back in April and is hoping to return by late July. If all goes well, he should begin a rehab assignment in about two weeks.

Brad Ausmus has opted to undergo surgery on his ailing lower back.
The procedure will put him out until "at least late summer," according to Jon Weisman of ESPN Los Angeles. Ausmus has already been placed on the 15-day disabled list, with A.J. Ellis recalled to back up Russell Martin.

Brad Ausmus is still feeling pain in his lower back after receiving an epidural injection on Monday.
"I'm hoping to have some positive effect from the injection in the next 24 to 48 hours," said Ausmus, who still can't get a decent night's sleep or sit in a chair for a long period of time. "I am more concerned this time. Numbness means a nerve is being pushed, and when a nerve is pushed, it could be damaged. I've never had pain down the leg or numbness, so I'm concerned." Ausmus, 41, suggested that if his back doesn't respond to conservative treatment, this might the the end of his career.

Brad Ausmus underwent and MRI and received an epidural injection for a pinched nerve in his lower back on Monday.
He also had an epidural injection during spring training. Ausmus, 41, was placed on the disabled list for the first time in his career over the weekend. He'll be reevaluated on Wednesday.

The Los Angeles Times' Dylan Hernandez tweets that this is the first time Ausmus has been placed on the disabled list in his career, an incredible achievement given the length of Ausmus' career and the wear and tear of catching. AJ Ellis has been called up to take his place.
