Chiefs coach Andy Reid announced Wednesday that the team has released Gray, the Kansas City Star reports.
Gray, who tore his ACL in Week 10 of the 2014 season, was limited to just eight carries for 31 yards and one touchdown in nine games before the injury kept him out for the remainder of the year. He was mostly used on special teams, as he was buried on the running back depth chart behind Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis. With Gray gone, Charcandrick West and Keshawn Hill currently slot in as depth options at the position.

Gray, who was placed on IR with a torn ACL in early November, finished the season with eight carries for 31 yards and a touchdown.
Gray will be buried on the depth chart in 2015, especially with the addition of De'Anthony Thomas in the draft. However, his special teams prowess makes him a good candidate to make the roster again, and he should provide some depth at running back should the Chiefs suffer injuries at the position.

Gray tore his ACL on Sunday against the Bills and will miss the remainder of the season, the Kansas City Star reports.
Gray serves a large role on special teams for the Chiefs, and will leave a void with his absence for the remainder of the season. The Chiefs will likely move him to IR and add someone to the roster, though the team has depth at running back (Jamaal Charles, Knile Davis, De'Anthony Thomas), and could add depth elsewhere.
Tue Oct 21 201423:20Gray didn't see offensive snap Sunday against Chargers
Gray didn't see an offensive snap Sunday against the Chargers.
Gray is behind three running backs now with De'Anthony Thomas healthy, and will likely continue serving as a special teams player.
Sun Oct 19 201414:36Gray (hand) active for Sunday's game at San Diego
Gray (hand) is active for Sunday's game at San Diego, BJ Kissel of the Chiefs' official site reports.
Friday's full practice, or Gray's only appearance of the week, translated to active status in Week 7. However, the emergence of De'Anthony Thomas hasn't afforded any recent opportunities for Gray, who last touched the ball in Week 3.

Gray (hand) was a full participant in practice Friday but is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers, the team's official site reports.
Gray didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, but returned Friday as he was expected to. The fact that he was back is encouraging for his status Sunday, but there's still no guarantee he will suit up.
Wed Oct 15 201413:39Gray (hand) won't practice Wednesday but should Friday
Gray (hand) won't practice Wednesday but should Friday, BJ Kissel of the team's official site reports.
Gray fractured his hand against the 49ers in Week 5, but wasn't expected to miss much time due to the injury. Friday's practice should be a good indicator of his status for this week's game.
Wed Oct 8 201401:48Gray suffered fractured hand Sunday and may require surgery
Gray suffered a fractured hand Sunday and may require surgery, the Kansas City Star reports.
Gray reportedly is wearing a cast on his hand, but surgery hasn't been ruled out as an option. Either way, it sounds as though the injury may not keep him out for a long period of time.

Gray (foot) rushed the ball four times for 18 yards and a touchdown against the Dolphins on Sunday.
Gray saw the field for just eight offensive snaps Sunday in the abasence of Jamaal Charles, who was inactive for the game. He lost playing time to Joe McKnight on Sunday, who played 15 snaps, while Knile Davis saw the bulk of the time offensively, as expected. Gray should continue to serve largely as a special teams player, and will be touchdown-dependent to have fantasy value, a chance he may get from time to time with Jamaal Charles sidelined.
Sun Sep 21 201415:09Gray (foot) listed as active for Sunday's game against Dolphins
Gray (foot) listed as active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
With Jamaal Charles out, Gray is slated to work behind Knile Davis in the Chiefs' backfield Sunday.
Wed Sep 17 201421:20Gray (foot) practiced fully Wednesday
Gray (foot) practiced fully Wednesday, the Chiefs' official site reports.
With Jamaal Charles iffy for Week 3, Gray could see added work Sunday against the Dolphins, but he remains behind fellow RB Knile Davis, in any case.
Tue Sep 16 201414:31Gray dealing with strained foot
Gray is dealing with a strained foot, which coach Andy Reid deems a minor concern, the Kansas City Star reports.
The high ankle sprain suffered by Jamaal Charles this past Sunday all but assures starting status for Knile Davis for the foreseeable future. Wednesday's injury report should shed light on the severity of Charles' ailment, but in any case, Gray and De'Anthony Thomas (hamstring) could be factors in the ground game behind Davis on Sunday at Miami.
Tue Sep 16 201414:20Gray rushed twice for eight yards against Broncos on Sunday
Gray rushed twice for eight yards against the Broncos on Sunday.
Gray didn't play a hug role offensively despite the team's star, Jamaal Charles, going out with a high-ankle sprain. Knile Davis took on almost all of the work, and he will likely continue to do so if Charles misses any time. Gray still serves largely as a special teams player, but could see a few more carries as the backup if Charles can't go.
Tue Sep 9 201400:23Gray rushed twice for five yards Sunday against Titans
Gray rushed twice for five yards Sunday against the Titans.
Gray played just one snap offensively and rushed for one yard, giving Jamaal Charles a brief breather. His other rush came on a fake punt, where he was stopped a yard short of a first down. Gray will likely continue as mostly a special teams player, where he took 24 snaps Sunday, as the season progresses.
Sun Aug 31 201401:27Gray has made Chiefs' 53-man roster
Gray has made the Chiefs' 53-man roster, the Kansas City Star reports.
Gray serves as a valued special teams player for the Chiefs, and should continue it that role. The team decided to keep five running backs for now, but it wouldn't be surprising if the drop one eventually, and Gray and Joe McKnight would be the two candidates to lose their spot.

Gray carried 10 times for 44 yards in Sunday's preseason game against the Panthers.
Though Gray isn't projected to be a big factor in the Chiefs' run game with Jamaal Charles, Knile Davis and De'Anthony Thomas on hand, he could stick with the team out of the gate as a depth back/special-teamer.

Gray carried 10 times for 55 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason opener against the Bengals.
Gray barely played during his first two seasons, and he's still stuck behind both Jamaal Charles and Kniles Davis on the depth chart. With the Chiefs drafting De'Anthony Thomas in the offseason, Gray may have more competition for touches in the event that either Charles or Davis suffers an injury.
Sat Jan 4 201421:13RB Gray totals five yards in Wild Card loss
Cyrus Gray rushed twice for five yards in Kansas City's Wild Card loss to the Colts.
Gray was thrust into action after the Chiefs lost both Jamaal Charles (concussion) and Knile Davis (knee) to injury. A second-year sixth rounder, Gray has managed only 16 carries for 68 yards through his first two years in the league. A stout 5-foot-10, 206 pounds, Gray has 4.4 speed, but doesn't play to it. He'll be on the roster bubble next summer.
