Chiefs coach Andy Reid announced Wednesday that the team has released Gray, the Kansas City Star reports.

Gray, who tore his ACL in Week 10 of the 2014 season, was limited to just eight carries for 31 yards and one touchdown in nine games before the injury kept him out for the remainder of the year. He was mostly used on special teams, as he was buried on the running back depth chart behind Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis. With Gray gone, Charcandrick West and Keshawn Hill currently slot in as depth options at the position.

Gray, who was placed on IR with a torn ACL in early November, finished the season with eight carries for 31 yards and a touchdown.

Gray will be buried on the depth chart in 2015, especially with the addition of De'Anthony Thomas in the draft. However, his special teams prowess makes him a good candidate to make the roster again, and he should provide some depth at running back should the Chiefs suffer injuries at the position.
