Murphy, 34, will receive a base salary of $2 million if he makes Boston' s major league roster, according to ESPN.The Red Sox drafted Murphy with the 17th overall pick in the 2003 draft. Murphy is a .274 career hitter over 10 seasons with the Red Sox, Rangers, Indians and Angels. Murphy hit .283 with 10 home runs and 50 RBIs in 132 games with the Indians and Angels last season. He has 104 career homers and 472 RBIs.

Murphy is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rangers, MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports.

The Rangers will bring lefty Cole Hamels to the hill for the regular-season finale, so Murphy will give way to Shane Victorino in left field.

Murphy is not in the lineup Friday against the Mariners.

After slumping through an 0-for-7 stretch with a pair of strikeouts in his past two games, Murphy will take a seat for the second time in four games. Shane Victorino will get the start in left field and bat seventh.

Murphy has seen the majority of the left field starts lately, riding a six-game hitting streak that's raised his average to .287, but he'll take a seat Monday. Shane Victorino will get the start in left in his place and bat seventh.

Murphy has excelled in the leadoff role in recent days, hitting homers in back-to-back days before getting the night off Thursday. Considering Murphy is batting in front of Kole Calhoun, Mike Trout and Albert Pujols, the 33-year-old outfielder could turn in some very lucrative numbers if he continues to find himself atop the batting order.

Murphy went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a 3-1 loss to Seattle on Wednesday.

That is now back-to-back games in the leadoff spot and back-to-back games with a home run. If he continues to hit leadoff, his value would rise exponentially, as he'll hit in front on Kole Calhoun, Mike Trout, and Albert Pujols. Prior to being moved to the leadoff spot, Murphy was just 2-for-17, so it was probably a confidence booster for the lefty as well.

Murphy went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a win over the Mariners on Tuesday.

Murphy hit his fourth home run off Seattle starter Felix Hernandez after ambushing The King in the top of the third inning to give the Angels a 3-1 lead. Murphy could be used in the leadoff spot more often down the stretch, but he has tallied just a .648 OPS in September and has yet to steal a base this season, likely making him a fringe option regardless of the move.

Murphy is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.

With lefty Clayton Kershaw due up for Los Angeles, Murphy will sit in favor of Shane Victorino in left field, which has been the norm against southpaws. Murphy is batting .271/.286/.417 with three homers and 11 RBI in 27 games since arriving from Cleveland at the deadline.

Murphy is out of the lineup Friday.

While Murphy gets the majority of the starts in left field, the Angels now have enough players on the roster that he will inevitably sit a couple days each week. Shane Victorino will start in left and hit seventh Friday.

Murphy went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in an 8-3 loss to the Indians on Saturday.

Murphy took Corey Kluber deep on the first pitch after a rain delay and it was his second homer as an Angel. He is batting just below .300 for the Halos and he's doing just what they expected as he's been the regular cleanup hitter against right-handers since his acquisition. Murphy will continue to be a reliable bat against righties, but because of that, he's off-limits in standard mixed league as a platoon player.

Murphy is out of the lineup Thursday.

He has made four straight starts, but will make way for Shane Victorino to get the start in left field Thursday. Murphy is hitting .282/.301/.423 in 74 plate appearances since joining the Angels.

Murphy is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Blue Jays.

The 33-year-old will sit for the fourth time in five games with the Angels facing yet another southpaw in David Price. Murphy, who has gone 15-for-57 (.263 average) with two homers since joining the Angels, figures to be in there for the final two games of the series with right-handers due up for Toronto on Saturday and Sunday.

Murphy went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Royals on Sunday.

After not hitting an extra base hit from July 9 to August 8, Murphy has now hit two doubles and two home runs in the past week. Despite the slump, he's still putting fourth quality numbers (.290/.332/.424 slash line as of Saturday) and has seen semi-regular playing time as a left-handed DH for the Angels.

Murphy will sit out Friday's game against the Royals.

Murphy will take a seat for the fourth time in five games Friday, and it could be related to the left-handed Danny Duffy on the mound for the Royals. Shane Victorino will receive the start once again Friday, batting leadoff for the Angels.

Murphy is out of the lineup Monday against the White Sox.

After a three-hit game on Sunday, Murphy is replaced in the lineup by Shane Victorino. He's hitting .288 on the season with six home runs and should be available as a pinch hitter if called upon.

Murphy went 3-for-6 with a home run and four RBI in Sunday's victory over the Orioles.

Murphy crushed a three-run home run in the third inning and then came through with the game winning hit in the 11th to cap off a productive day at the plate. He's now back to .288 on the season with six home runs and 32 RBI and is having one of his best seasons at the plate in years.
