Mon Sep 14 201513:21The Dolphins have waived James
The Dolphins have waived James, Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.
With James -- who fumbled a kickoff return in Sunday's win over Washington -- no longer in the Dolphins' backfield mix, look for newcomer Jonas Gray to move in the team's No. 3 RB role behind Lamar Miller and Damien Williams.

James (chest) is listed as the starting punt and kick returner on Miami's initial regular-season depth chart, the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reports.
James is only third on the depth chart at running back, behind Lamar Miller and Damien Williams. Even with Jay Ajayi (ribs) on short-term injured reserve, James will likely have a minimal or non-existent role in the offense to start the season, as Williams is the clear No. 2.
Sun Aug 30 201522:03James left Saturday's game with chest injury
James left Saturday's game with a chest injury, reports Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.
This injury is poor timing for James as he may have actually been in the lead for the backup job behind Lamar Miller. James may ultimately still win the role but it should be just a matter of time until Jay Ajayi takes it.

James rushed for 45 yards on six carries in Saturday's loss to Carolina.
James is in a battle for a roster spot as we know Lamar Miller will be the lead back, rookie Jay Ajayi isn't going anywhere, and right now Damien Williams is in the lead for the backup role. If James fails to impress on special teams and while running the ball he could find himself without a job when final cuts are made.

James is in the running for the Dolphins' No. 2 RB assignment behind Lamar Miller, the Miami Herald reports.
James is in a three-man competition for the job, along with Damien Williams and rookie Jay Ajayi. While Ajayi appears to be a bit behind both James and Williams for now, offensive coordinator Bill Lazor indicated that "there's not one guy who's out of it" at this stage of training camp.
Fri Mar 20 201513:26LaMichael James: Re-Signs With Dolphins
James re-signed with the Dolphins on Friday, Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post reports.
The former second-round draft pick spent two games with Miami in 2014, gaining nine yards on just three carries. The Dolphins have a shaky running back group behind Lamar Miller, but there's still no guarantee James will have a significant role, or for that matter even make the final roster. It wouldn't be surprising to see Miami target a running back in the middle rounds of the 2015 NFL Draft.

James had little to no impact with the Dolphins as he only rushed the ball three times for nine yards.
James was signed for depth once Knowshon Moreno went down for the season but never got a chance to make his mark in Miami. There is always a chance he comes back next season but that would seem unlikely at this point in time.
Mon Nov 10 201413:15LaMichael James:
James has been added to the Dolphins' active roster, the Palm Beach Post reports.
With Lamar Miller currently dealing with a shoulder issue, James will provide the Dolphins with added running back depth behind Damien Williams and Daniel Thomas.
Wed Oct 1 201411:21James added to Dolphins' practice squad
James has been added to the Dolphins' practice squad, Adam Caplan of ESPN reports.
Though he won't be added to the 53-man roster immediately, James could ultimately earn a promotion with the Dolphins short on running back depth with Knowshon Moreno out with a fractured elbow. The former second-round pick rushed for just 184 yards over 15 career games with the 49ers, before asking for his release after the first game of the season.
Wed Sep 17 201401:07James worked out with Dolphins on Tuesday
James worked out with the Dolphins on Tuesday, according to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.
The Dolphins are a little light at running back right now with Knowshon Moreno (elbow) out for 4-8 weeks and Lamar Miller (ankle) day to day. James left without a contract however but could be an option later on this season.

James cleared waivers Tuesday and is free to sign with any organization, CSN Bay Area reports.
James' request for another chance elsewhere has come to fruition, but it remains to be seen which running-back needy team will take a chance on the 24-year-old. In two-plus seasons with the 49ers, he racked up 41 carries for 184 yards (4.5 YPC) and five catches (on eight targets) for 45 yards across 15 outings.
Mon Sep 8 201415:12The 49ers have released James
The 49ers have released James, sfgate.com reports.
The 2012 second-rounder was decidedly behind Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde in the 49ers' RB pecking order, with the move paving the way for him to catch on elsewhere. The report suggests that James is a candidate to be claimed by another team looking to bolster its backfield and given the right situation, James could emerge as an in-season pickup candidate in deeper formats.

James had nine yards on seven carries and seven yards on one reception in Sunday's preseason game against the Chargers.
Working as the No. 3 running back, James was far less impressive than top backup Carlos Hyde. Though he doesn't figure to get more than one or two offensive touches in Week 1, James would likely handle most of the third-down work if Frank Gore were to suffer an injury.

James (elbow) practiced Wednesday without a non-contact jersey for the first time since injuring his elbow this offseason, Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports.
James' status for Sunday's preseason game against the Chargers is still in question, but the original timetable of a month recovery seems to be spot on. It looks like he will be ready by the time the regular season starts, where he will serve as a backup running back and a kick return specialist.
Wed Aug 13 201422:17James (elbow) returned to practice Wednesday
James (elbow) returned to practice Wednesday, wearing a non-contact uniform and an elbow brace, Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports.
James didn't participate fully, spending most of his time at practice returning kicks. Even with the non-contact uniform and elbow brace, it was surprising to see him back so quickly given his estimated month timetable for recovery. Despite his return to practice, there is almost no chance that we see him on the field for Sunday's preseason game against the Broncos.
Wed Jul 30 201415:16LaMichael James expected back for opener
49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said RB LaMichael James (elbow) is expected to be ready Week 1.
James is expected to miss a month after dislocating his elbow for the third time in his career. With Kendall Hunter also on the shelf, rookie Carlos Hyde has stepped in as the No. 2 back in San Francisco. James will serve as a return man and change of pace option when healthy.

Mon Jul 28 201411:15LaMichael James dislocation is his third
LaMichael James has now sustained three elbow dislocations in his career.
James suffered one in high school, one at Oregon in 2011 and then one on Sunday at 49ers camp. It's something to file away along with a 4-6 week timetable. If James can get healthy in time for Week 1, he'll be a return man and third tailback behind Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde.

Sun Jul 27 201419:4349ers RB/KR James dislocates left elbow
49ers RB/KR LaMichael James is expected to miss at least a month with a dislocated left elbow.
The once-deep 49ers will probably have to sign a running back after losing James for all of camp and Kendall Hunter to an ACL tear. Jewel Hampton now looks like a decent bet to make the 53 behind Frank Gore and rookie Carlos Hyde. When healthy, James will return as San Francisco's primary kickoff and punt returner, and No. 3 tailback. Marcus Lattimore (hamstring, knee) still can't practice.

Sun Jul 27 201419:14LaMichael James carted off the field
49ers RB/KR LaMichael James was carted off the field during Sunday's practice with an apparent left arm injury.
The injury appeared to be James' wrist or arm, and the extent is unknown. It's another running back blow after San Francisco lost Kendall Hunter to a torn ACL. Frank Gore, Carlos Hyde, and Jewel Hampton are the Niners' only healthy backs. Marcus Lattimore (knee, hamstring) remains on the active/PUP list.

Sat Jul 26 201415:54LaMichael James now locked into roster spot
LaMichael James' roster spot on the 49ers is now "virtually assured" following Kendall Hunter's ACL tear.
James is now the favorite for No. 3 running back duties behind Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde, and will be San Francisco's primary return man. James remains an unappealing re-draft fantasy asset, with little Dynasty league appeal, as well.
