Boggs had been with the Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League. The 31-year-old hit .236/.331/.353 last season at Triple-A for the Brewers and Braves. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2011.

Brandon Boggs rapped four of Milwaukee's 25 hits against the Reds on Monday, driving in four runs and scoring twice.
One of his hits was a solo home run off of Homer Bailey. Boggs has just 24 major league at-bats since the end of the 2008 season, so a huge spring will be key if he wants to earn one of the Brewers' final bench spots. So far, he's hitting .318 with seven RBI through 22 at-bats.

Brewers assistant GM Gord Ash said Brandon Boggs isn't guaranteed a roster spot even though he was given a major league contract.
"He'll compete in the spring for the last outfield spot," said Ash. "If he doesn't make it, he could be Triple-A depth and insurance." Boggs doesn't have options left, so he'd have to clear waivers in order to be optioned to Triple-A. He batted .290/.406/.470 at Triple-A Oklahoma City in 2010 but managed just one hit in 24 at-bats the last two seasons with the Rangers.

Brewers signed OF Brandon Boggs to a one-year deal.
It's a surprise that he got a major league deal. Boggs had a nice .290/.406/.470 batting line at Triple-A Oklahoma City this past season, but he's managed just one hit in 24 at-bats the last two seasons with the Rangers. The switch-hitter, who will turn 28 in January, will back up at all three outfield spots in 2011.
