CF Julio Borbon was designated for assignment to make room for RHP Ubaldo Jimenez, who came off the paternity list Tuesday. This means Baltimore will carry 13 pitchers for the foreseeable future. "That's why we took an extra pitcher instead of Borbon right now," manager Buck Showalter said. "We're going through a stretch where we're going to need some coverage in our bullpen." Borbon batted .222 in five games (2-for-9) with a run scored for the Orioles this season.

Borbon could be in Baltimore's plans this season if anything should keep Adam Jones out for an extended period of time, according to MASN Sports reports.
Borbon went 4-for-9 in a brief look in the Grapefruit League before being reassigned to minor league camp. He seems to field the position better than Alejandro De Aza and Everth Cabrera, the latter of whom is new to the position. Borbon spent all of 2014 at Triple-A and did not receive a September promotion. He is not on the roster, so it would probably take moving Adam Jones to the 60-day disabled list for Borbon to get consideration. Jones has proven to be durable over his career, so Borbon's chances of seeing action with the Orioles this season remain slim.
Fri Dec 13 201318:47O's nab Julio Borbon in minors Rule 5 draft
Orioles selected OF Julio Borbon in the minor league portion of Thursday's Rule 5 draft.
It's a nice low-risk move that adds organizational depth for the Orioles. The 27-year-old speedster slashed a meager .202/.284/.279 in 104 at-bats with the Cubs in 2013.

Fri Aug 2 201321:18Cubs designate Julio Borbon for assignment
Cubs designated OF Julio Borbon for assignment.
Cubs skipper Dale Sveum wasn't happy with a baserunning mistake that Borbon made in the ninth inning of Friday's loss to the Dodgers, going as far as to say it changed the ballgame. That isn't the sole reason for his dismissal though, as he was hitting a paltry .200/.282/.276 with three RBI on the season.

Thu Jun 13 201320:23Borbon has walk-off single in win over Reds
Julio Borbon had walk-off pinch-hit single in a 6-5 win over the Reds in 14 innings on Thursday.
After sitting on the bench for around five hours, Borbon punched a two-out single through the left side to bring in Starlin Castro to end it. It was just his second RBI since being acquired claimed off waivers from the Rangers back in April. His speed is useful, but the Cubs will have to deal an outfielder for him to be fantasy relevant again.

Mon May 27 201322:01Julio Borbon homers for Cubs
Julio Borbon went 2-for-5 and hit a two-run homer in the Cubs' victory Monday.
It seems like a given that the Cubs will eventually trade an outfielder, whether it's Alfonso Soriano or David DeJesus. Ideally, Brett Jackson would come up and fill a starting spot when it happens, but if he's still not ready, Borbon could get an extended look. With his speed, he'd have considerable fantasy value if it happens.

Sun May 19 201302:44Borbon has three steals in limited time
Julio Borbon has stolen three bases since he joined the Cubs last month.
Borbon hasn't been playing enough to warrant an update over the past month (he's logged more than two at-bats in a game just twice since the Cubs claimed him off waivers from the Rangers on April 19). If he can secure some playing time over the summer, Borbon will be useful in NL-only formats in the batting average and steals departments. Chicago has displayed no willingness to exercise their atrophying 27-year-old outfielder, however.

Fri Apr 19 201313:30Cubs claim OF Julio Borbon off waivers
Cubs claimed OF Julio Borbon off waivers from the Rangers.
The Rangers were unable to find a trade partner to unload Borbon, but plenty of teams surely put in a waiver claim for him, and the Cubs got him. He'll back up David DeJesus in center field for now but is a candidate for increased playing time down the road with a number of the Cubs' outfielders likely to be on the trade block.

Wed Apr 17 201314:06Rangers fail to find trade for Julio Borbon
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Julio Borbon will be placed on waivers after the Rangers were unable to find a trade partner.
Borbon drew plenty of interest, but the Rangers were unable to find the right fit and will now likely lose him for nothing. The Astros have been mentioned as a possibility and it would be surprising if they didn't take a chance on him. We should learn more about his status soon.

Wed Apr 17 201313:57Rangers unlikely to find trade for Borbon
T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com hears the Rangers' optimism has faded to find a trade partner for Julio Borbon.
Borbon was designated for assignment last week, but the Rangers haven't found a trade partner who is willing to clear a spot on their roster. He's now expected to be claimed off waivers instead. For what it's worth, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports hears that the Orioles will not make a trade for Borbon. Teams like the Astros, Mets, and Twins have been mentioned as possible fits.
