Reds signed C Max Ramirez to a minor league contract.
He'll also get an invitation to spring training. The 29-year-old former top prospect hasn't appeared in the big leagues since the 2010 season, and slashed .263/.336/.375 with nine homers and 55 RBI at Triple-A Omaha this season. This move further bolsters the Reds' catching depth, on the same day that they signed Bryan Pena to a two-year deal to be their primary backup.

Tue Dec 13 201113:47Royals sign C Ramirez to minors deal
Royals signed C Max Ramirez to a minor league contract.
Ramirez was one of the better catching prospects in the game a few years ago, but he's fallen on hard times. Kansas City is his sixth organization of 2011, which has to be close to a record. Beginning in Texas, where he was DFA'd on January 3rd, Ramirez has gone from the Red Sox to the Cubs to the to the Astros to the Giants. Ramirez has a meager .699 career OPS in the majors over 144 plate appearances, but he's always raked in the minors, posting an .867 OPS on the farm over his career. He's a very poor defender, so Ramirez will have to solve major league pitching to ever have a hope of sticking in the bigs.

Tue Jun 21 201119:53Max Ramirez signs minors deal with Giants
Giants signed C Max Ramirez to a minor league contract.
Ramirez was one of the better catching prospects in the game a few years ago, but he's fallen on hard times, as this is the fifth organization he's been in since the beginning of the year. He's batted just .229/.267/.339 over 118 at-bats this season and, and although he'll given the Giants some much-needed catching depth in the minors, there's no guarantee he'd be an offensive upgrade over Eli Whiteside and Chris Stewart.

Wed Mar 30 201113:59Cubs send Max Ramirez outright to minors
Cubs sent C Max Ramirez outright to Triple-A Iowa.
It's at least a little bit surprising that he passed through successfully. The 26-year-old backstop would likely be the first catcher called up to the big leagues in the event of an injury to Geovany Soto or Koyie Hill.

Mon Mar 28 201122:29Cubs place Max Ramirez on waivers
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Cubs have placed catcher Max Ramirez on waivers.
The Cubs would like to send Ramirez to Triple-A Iowa, but because he is out of options, he must be exposed to waivers. Though the 26-year-old backstop hasn't enjoyed much success in limited opportunities at the major league level, he should draw some interest.

Wed Mar 23 201112:12Ramirez scheduled to get MRI on left wrist
Max Ramirez was scheduled to get an MRI on his left wrist Wednesday.
The same wrist has given him trouble in the past, so hopefully it won't keep him sidelined for long. The 26-year-old is batting .294 (5-for-17) with one home run and nine RBI this spring and is expected to begin the season at the Triple-A level.

Ramirez spent only five days in the Red Sox's system. Once regarded as a promising young catcher, he batted just .286/.373/.381 at the Triple-A level last year and turned 26 years old in October. If he climbs his way to the big leagues with the Cubs, it'll only be because of an injury.
