Morris gained just 15 yards on eight carries Sunday against the Falcons.
Morris' inability to contribute as a receiver out of the backfield leaves him susceptible to having clunkers like this one in when he can't get things going on the ground. It's extremely concerning to see him only receive eight carries to 11 for Matt Jones since the Redskins weren't in catch-up mode for most of the contest. Jones averaged only 1.8 yards per carry compared to Morris' equally terrible 1.9, but the lack of touches is keeping Morris from generating much value in Washington's current running back-by-committee approach.

Morris rushed 17 times for just 62 yards in Sunday's win over the Eagles. He caught two of his three targets for an additional three yards.
The 26-year-old received the majority of the touches out of the Washington backfield for the third time in four games, but he was unable to make a significant impact against a stout Eagles defensive front. Morris' impact will be limited in games where the Redskins fall behind, as was the case last week against the Giants, but he should continue to see a healthy dose of early-down work despite the presence of Matt Jones and Chris Thompson. Week 5 brings a matchup against a Falcons defense that has allowed the most fantasy points to opposing running backs this season.

Morris had six carries for 19 yards in Thursday's 32-21 loss to the Giants.
Matt Jones drew his first career start, finishing with 39 yards on 11 carries, but also losing a fumble for the second straight week. With the Redskins trailing for the entire game, Chris Thompson led the team's running backs with 39 snaps, compared to 26 for Jones and only 12 for Morris, according to Pro Football Focus. Things could open back up if Jones continues to struggle with ball security, but it appears Morris is no longer the Redskins' lead back as the team prepares for a Week 4 matchup with the Eagles.

Morris rushed 18 times for 59 yards and caught two passes on two targets for 13 receiving yards during Sunday's 24-10 win over the Rams.
Backup Matt Jones exploded for a 39-yard touchdown in the first quarter and continued to play well, which significantly cut into Morris' touches. Jones finished with one more carry but rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns, putting pressure on Morris for carries out of the backfield. Jones isn't likely to supplant Morris as the starter, but they could certainly get closer to a 50-50 split in touches, which would severely limit their respective fantasy upsides. Up next is a quick turnaround to face the Giants on Thursday.

Morris had 25 carries for 121 yards Sunday against the Dolphins.
Head coach Jay Gruden indicated Friday that Morris and backup Matt Jones could split carries depending on game flow, but Jones finished with only six carries for 28 yards, and neither running back was targeted in the passing game. Morris is likely to get the first crack at carries each week, and it would likely take a very poor performance for Jones to dominate the touches. Up next is a home game against the Rams in Week 2.

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden suggested that the workload split between Morris and Matt Jones will largely depend on game flow in Sunday's opener against the Dolphins, ESPN.com reports. "A lot depends on how the game goes," Gruden said. "We're going to work Matt in there, obviously. Alfred's still the bell cow. We want to keep him fresh for 16 games. If he gets 12-20 carries, Matt Jones gets eight to 10, I don't know how that's going to work or play out."
If the Redskins are able to piece together long drives, Morris will likely need to be spelled by Matt Jones. In addition to not being likely, such a scenario might involve the Redskins sitting on a lead, which would seem to favor Morris getting more snaps. Jones figures to get most of the passing-down work and some carries, but Morris is still the starter and leader of the backfield. The real takeaway here is that the Redskins seemingly want to keep Jones more involved than Roy Helu was in past seasons.

Morris had eight carries for 42 yards in Thursday's preseason opener against the Browns.
Rookie third-round draft pick Matt Jones also had a nice night, gaining 38 yards on five carries and 11 yards on one reception. Of course, Morris is still locked in as the lead back, and even a fantastic preseason from Jones wouldn't change that. The rookie will likely be Morris' top backup, and while he's a threat to poach some carries, Jones is mostly competing with Chris Thompson and Silas Redd for passing-down work.

Coach Jay Gruden noted after Washington selected Matt Jones in the third round of the NFL draft that Morris remains Washington's lead back, ESPN.com reports.
Jones bolsters the team's backfield depth following the free agent departure of Roy Helu, but given that he is a big physical back, he profiles more as a direct backup (who can occasionally spell Morris) than a change-of-pace type. "Alfred won't be affected," Gruden noted with regard to the presence of Jones. "Alfred's still the running back here. He's had three great seasons and that won't change. But to add another guy that can come in here and pound the rock a little bit doesn't hurt anything. It'll help Alfred in that regard, taking some carries off him. For the most part Alfred will be getting the bulk of the carries and Matt will get some too, obviously."

Morris had 12 carries for 43 rushing yards and two catches on three targets for 19 receiving yards during Sunday's loss to the Cowboys.
Morris had already clinched his third-consecutive 1,000-yard season, but his yards-per-carry average has dropped in each of his three seasons. He's starting to get a little more involved in the passing game, catching 17 passes on 26 targets for 155 receiving yards this season, though he doesn't provide a huge bump in PPR leagues. He has one year left on his rookie contract, and he's got a little leverage as the only true workhorse back on the roster.

Morris had 21 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 27-24 win over the Eagles.
After a three-game scoring drought, Morris finally found his way to paydirt on a 28-yard run in the first quarter in which he shrugged off multiple tackle attempts. Of course, people starting Morris in a fantasy championship game were likely shaking their fists at television screens across the country when Darrel Young vultured two one-yard rushing touchdowns in the third quarter.

Morris wasn't listed on Washington's injury report Wednesday.
Morris reportedly sustained a minor groin injury during Sunday's loss to the Giants, but the ailment wasn't serious enough to warrant a mention following the first practice of the week. On Saturday, he'll be free to take aim at an Eagles defense that has given up merely 3.5 YPC to running backs in the past three games, which has been offset by seven RB touchdowns on the ground in the past eight contests.

Morris appears to have suffered a minor groin injury Sunday, the Washington Post reports. He was limited in the second half.
He experienced tightness in the groin and was limited from there out. The injury appears minor at the moment but he may be limited in practice this week.

Morris had 14 carries for 49 yards Sunday against the Giants.
While the 49 yards were an improvement from Week 14 against the Rams (eight carries for six yards), Morris posted his second-lowest yardage total since Week 6. He is still the top back in Washington, though backup Chris Thompson was effective in limited touches against the Giants, rushing for 12 yards on three carries and catching three passes for 22 yards and a touchdown. Up next is a Week 16 matchup against the Eagles, who are much better against the run than the pass this season.

Morris had eight carries for six rushing yards and caught one pass on three targets for 11 receiving yards during Sunday's 24-0 loss to the Rams.
If the eight carries for six yards wasn't bad enough, Morris actually ripped off a single 12-yard run, which means his other seven carries went for minus-six yards. Washington was dominated throughout the game and rushed the ball only 12 times in total versus 36 passing plays. It was, unsurprisingly, his lowest rushing total of the season, but he'll look to bounce back in Week 15 against the Giants, who he had 90 total yards and a touchdown against in Week 4.

Morris had 17 carries for 67 rushing yards and three catches on five targets for 16 receiving yards Sunday against the Colts.
Coming off his best game of the season in Week 12 against the 49ers (125 yards and a touchdown), Morris posted his lowest rushing total since Week 7. Despite the struggles, Morris continues to be the workhorse RB for Washington, as backup Roy Helu grabbed only one carry Sunday. Up next is a Rams defense that is one of 10 teams in the NFL to allow double-digit rushing touchdowns this season.

Morris had 21 carries for a season-high 125 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 17-13 loss at San Francisco. He caught his lone target for five yards.
Morris performed well against a tough defense, and was the only Redskins' offensive player to show up, as Robert Griffin and the passing game was abysmal. If the Redskins can hang around with the Colts next week in Indianapolis, Morris could once again post strong numbers. He's been solid in general as of late, rushing for at least 70 yards in each of the last four games, while also scoring four touchdowns during that span.

Morris had 20 carries for 96 yards and two catches on three targets for 36 receiving yards Sunday against the Buccaneers.
Morris' two-game touchdown streak came to an end, and while he's accounted for more than 100 yards in back-to-back games, he still hasn't reached the 100-yard rushing mark in a game this season. He's getting a little more involved in the passing game, with four catches on six targets for 53 yards in the last two games, but he's likely to have a tough time breaking out in Week 12, as the Redskins will face off against a 49ers defense allowing the seventh-fewest rushing yards and fifth-fewest passing yards per game this season.

Morris had 19 carries for 92 rushing yards and two touchdowns, as well as two catches on three targets for 17 receiving yards Sunday against the Vikings.
A very solid game for Morris, who has now scored three touchdowns in the last two weeks, though he has yet to reach the 100-yard mark in any game this season. With quarterback Robert Griffin back under center, Morris saw some better running lanes Sunday, and he'll look to keep that going in Week 11 against the Bucs after the Redskins' Week 10 bye.

Morris had 18 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown, adding one reception for 12 yards, in Monday's 20-17 overtime win over the Cowboys.
Morris finally ended his run of futility, reaching the end zone for the first time since Week 4, and topping 70 rushing yards for the first time since Week 3. He got a major boost from a 29-yard scamper on his first carry of the second half, marking his first run longer than 23 yards since Week 15 of last season. The 29-yard rush and his five-yard touchdown occurred on the same drive, which accounted for most of his production in the aftermath of a poor first half. Morris draws a middling Minnesota run defense next week, but even after the bounce-back outing, it's hard to feel good about his role. While he's on pace for a respectable 266 carries, he's averaging just 3.9 yards per tote, with four touchdowns and six receptions.

Morris (ankle) is listed as active for Monday's game against the Cowboys.
As expected, Morris is out there Monday after a full week of practice and thus poised to handle his normal workload, with Colt McCoy serving as the team's QB this week.
