Chris Ray admitted Thursday that he still has some soreness in his left calf, but said he isn't concerned.

Wed Feb 9 201113:19Ray has chance to play prominent role
Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said that Chris Ray has a chance to play a prominent role in the back of the bullpen.
Ray even turned down a major league deal from another club in order to join the Mariners on a minor league contract. "Chris is going to be given every shot to make this club," said Zduriencik. "Here's a guy that has closed games out at times and he's a veteran. He's bounced back now healthy." Brandon League figures to be the in-house favorite for saves if David Aardsma is forced to miss the beginning of the season after hip surgery, but remember that Ray has closing experience from his days with the Orioles. Finally healthy after Tommy John surgery, he is someone to watch during spring training.

Tue Jan 25 201120:00Mariners sign RHP Ray to minors deal
Mariners signed RHP Chris Ray to a minor league contract.
Ray, 29, was non-tendered by the Giants last month after posting a 4.13 ERA and 15/9 K/BB ratio over 24 innings with the club. He hasn't found his command since coming back from Tommy John surgery, but his velocity has been right around 94 mph over the past two seasons. He's well worth a gamble with a minor league deal.
Fri Sep 3 201016:18Giants activate RHP Ray
Giants activated RHP Chris Ray from the 15-day disabled list.
Ray missed the minimum 15 days with his intercostal strain. He'll resume working in the sixth and seventh innings.
Mon Aug 30 201012:19Ray expected to return from DL on Friday
Chris Ray (intercostal strain) is expected to return from the disabled list on Friday, the first day that he is eligible.
Ray threw off a bullpen mound on Saturday for the first time since he was placed on the disabled list August 18 with a right intercostal strain. It went well, and he's likely to skip a minor league rehab assignment. Ray had a 5.40 ERA in 20 appearances with the Giants before the injury.

Wed Aug 18 201015:34Giants place RHP Ray on disabled list
Giants placed RHP Chris Ray on the 15-day disabled list with a right intercostal strain.
Ray was also charged with four runs while failing to record an out against the Phillies on Tuesday night, so that probably gave the Giants some extra incentive to get him off the extra roster. Including last night's implosion, Ray has a 5.40 ERA in 20 appearances since coming over from the Rangers early last month.
Sat Jul 3 201009:23Ray to be used in sixth and seventh innings
Manager Bruce Bochy said new reliever Chris Ray will be used in the sixth and seventh innings for the time being.
Ray, who was acquired in the Bengie Molina deal, had his first outing with his new team last night, tossing 2/3 scoreless innings. He held a solid 3.41 ERA with the Rangers but walked as many as he struck out (16). With Brian Wilson having another nice year, and Sergio Romo, Jeremy Affeldt and maybe even Guillermo Mota ahead of him in the pecking order, it would be very surprising if Ray found himself getting many, if any, save opportunities.
