The Chicago White Sox placed right-handed starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez on the 10-day disabled list Sunday with A/C joint inflammation in his right shoulder. The move, retroactive to June 15, was announced prior to Sunday's series finale against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre in Toronto.Gonzalez, 33, is 4-8 with a 5.49 ERA over 78 2/3 innings in 13 starts this season, his second with the White Sox.The White Sox also returned right-hander James Shields from his injury rehabilitation assignment to Triple-A Charlotte and reinstated him from the disabled list so he could start Sunday's game. The 35-year-old Shields, who was out with a right lat strain, will pitch his first game since April 16. Gonzalez (9-12) couldn't get out of the fourth inning Wednesday against the Jays, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out three in a blowout loss.
And so ends a brutal season for the 31-year-old righty, who returned from a month-long DL stint due to a shoulder injury to make one final ineffective start. After three straight seasons with an ERA of 3.78 or better to open his career, Gonzalez finishes 2015 with a number of career worsts, including a 4.91 ERA, a 5.01 FIP, a 1.40 WHIP, a 3.17 BB/9 and a 1.53 HR/9. Those stats will make him an unappealing option for next year's drafts; after all, he'd always been a guy whose peripherals were much uglier than his standard stats. Now they're approximately equally ugly.

Gonzalez will start Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays, CSN's Rich Dubroff reports.
He will indeed just move back to start the first game of the twin bill, as will Toronto's Marcus Stroman, after Tuesday's game was rained out. Kevin Gausman and R.A. Dickey will follow in Game 2.
Tue Sep 29 201518:44Gonzalez will not make scheduled start Tuesday against Blue Jays
Gonzalez will not make his scheduled start Tuesday against the Blue Jays, as the game has been postponed due to rain, Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports.
The Blue Jays are moving Marcus Stroman back to start Game 1 of Wednesday's twin bill, and the O's will likely do the same with Gonzalez, with Kevin Gausman expected to follow in the nightcap. Gonzalez was activated from the 15-day DL on Tuesday after missing a month with right shoulder soreness.
Tue Sep 29 201512:31Gonzalez (shoulder) reinstated from 15-day disabled list Tuesday
Gonzalez (shoulder) was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.
That's good news considering Gonzalez is slated to pitch Tuesday against the Blue Jays. He could be in line to make a second start if everything goes well Tuesday, however it's more likely the Orioles will be cautious with their 31-year-old pitcher considering they are no longer in the playoff chase.

Gonzalez (shoulder) came through Wednesday's simulated game unscathed, and plans to throw a bullpen session Saturday before potentially rejoining the rotation Tuesday, Rich Dubroff of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.
With the season's end right around the corner, it's possible Gonzalez will make two starts before the season completes, with his second turn potentially coming the last day of the regular season if he indeed starts Tuesday.

Gonzalez (shoulder) likely won't be ready to start this upcoming weekend, per manager Buck Showalter, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.
Gonzalez is slated to face live hitters Wednesday in an effort to determine whether he'll be ready to pitch over the weekend, but at this point it appears Showalter is not overly optimistic. Look out for a more definitive update Wednesday afternoon.

Gonzalez (shoulder) will face live hitters Wednesday and could start over the weekend against the Red Sox, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports.
Nothing has officially been decided yet, but if all goes well in Wednesday's session, Gonzalez should be ready to rejoin the big league club. If he's able to pitch in the Red Sox series, the 31-year-old should be lined up for another start after that before the end of the season.

Gonzalez (shoulder) will resume playing catch from 45-60 feet Monday, the Baltimore Sun's Eduardo Encina reports.
He said his shoulder and elbow are both pain free, so it's still possible that he could return to the mound for a start or two to close out the season.

Gonzalez (shoulder) probably won't come off the DL when first eligible Sept. 15, the Baltimore Sun's Eduardo Encina reports.
Mike Wright has stepped into Gonzalez's spot in the rotation and will take the ball Saturday, although he will only be allowed to throw around 60 pitches. It's difficult to predict when a pitcher will return from shoulder inflammation, and it's not even a given that Gonzalez will return at all this season.
Fri Sep 4 201515:57Gonzalez (shoulder) placed on DL on Friday
Gonzalez (shoulder) was placed on the DL on Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.
It remains unclear whether Gonzalez will be able to return for a start or two later in the month, but for now he'll hit the DL, with Mike Wright stepping into the rotation in his place. Wright will start Saturday's contest against the Blue Jays.
Tue Sep 1 201522:33Miguel Gonzalez: (Shoulder) Won't Pitch Saturday
Gonzalez does not have structural damage in his shoulder and could pitch again for the Orioles this year, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
It is still elbow and shoulder inflammation, so it's not like Gonzalez is not dealing with some noteworthy ailments for a pitcher, but his 2015 campaign may not be over. The Orioles have not announced who will replace Gonzalez in the rotation Saturday, but Kevin Gausman will remain on schedule and pitch Wednesday.

Gonzalez is experiencing soreness in both his right shoulder and his right elbow, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports.
Gonzalez received a cortisone shot in the shoulder and will have both joints examined via MRI on Tuesday, at which point we should find out whether he'll be able to make Saturday's start against the Blue Jays.
Mon Aug 31 201517:33Gonzalez may miss next start with soreness
Gonzalez may miss his next start with soreness, MASN Sports reports.
Gonzalez started Sunday and showed up sore Monday, but the report did not specify where Gonzalez is experiencing soreness. We should hear more later in the week on Gonzalez's status. He is currently slated to start Saturday afternoon in Toronto.

Gonzalez struggled on Saturday, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks through 5.1 innings in a 6-0 loss to the Rangers.
Things have taken a turn for the worst for Gonzalez, whose last win was all the way back on July 25. Since then, he's thrown just 35 innings in his last seven starts with an ERA of 7.46 and WHIP of 1.86. It doesn't look like they will turn around anytime soon either, as Gonzalez is set to take the mound Saturday against the destructive Blue Jays offense.

Gonzalez allowed three runs on six hits in just 4.1 innings in his 10th loss Tuesday against Kansas City. He struck out one and walked three.
Gonzalez has failed to make it through five innings four times in 11 starts since June 30, and over that time his ERA has vaulted from 3.58 to 4.78. His K:BB in those 11 starts is a mediocre 40:22 in 56.2 innings, and he has now served up 12 home runs in that span. Gonzalez had three straight seasons with an ERA under 4.00 entering this season, a streak that is probably buried after Tuesday's start.

Gonzalez (9-9) was smacked around for eight hits, two walks and seven runs over five innings in Thursday's blowout loss against Minnesota.
Typically a reliable starter despite high WHIPs throughout his career, Gonzalez has had a horribly inconsistent season. He's given up one or fewer runs eight times in 23 starts, but four-plus runs 10 times, including three in his last five outings. He's a tough start against a good team in the Royals his next time out.
