Mike Sweeney hasn't given up hope of playing in 2011.
Sweeney, 37, continues to work out and said his "primary focus is playing in 2011." He added that his agent has had conversations with three teams but indicated that he'd only consider playing for a contender. Sweeney also has had multiple offers to become a broadcaster or join teams in a front office or coaching role, offers he'll have to consider if he doesn't get an opportunity soon to join someone as a player. He hasn't played in 75 games since 2005.

Fri Jan 7 201123:31Sweeney trade nets Seattle cash consideration
Seattle received cash considerations from Philadelphia for the early August trade of Mike Sweeney.
The two sides could not agree on a player to be named later so a predetermined cash payment will head Seattle's way. Sweeney posted a .695 OPS in 58 plate appearances down the stretch for the Phillies.

In his first start as a Phillie, Mike Sweeney went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI in a comeback win over the Mets.
Sweeney was immediately inserted into the cleanup spot and got a huge eighth-inning rally started off with a single off flamethrowing reliever Bobby Parnell. Manager Charlie Manuel remembers Sweeney from his days with the Indians and respects him as a professional hitter. Look for Sweeney to get the majority of at-bats at first base while Ryan Howard (ankle) is out.

Mike Sweeney left Monday's minor league rehab game with Triple-A Tacoma due to an apparent leg injury.
Sweeney was limping after hitting into a double play in the fourth inning. This was the seventh game of his rehab assignment, as he works his way back from lower back inflammation.

Mike Sweeney (back) is scheduled to take batting practice Thursday.
If he wakes up Friday without any abnormal pain or discomfort, Sweeney will be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment. The veteran has been on the 15-day disabled list since late June due to a back injury.

Mariners placed designated hitter Mike Sweeeney on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 26, with back spasms.
Sweeney made it through just one game at first base before requiring his second DL stint of the month. He's been productive in his 99 at-bats for the Mariners this year, hitting .263/.327/.475, but he needs to be handled very carefully.

Mike Sweeney, due to start at first base for a second straight day, was scratched from Saturday's lineup.
No word yet on the injury. But the Mariners should know by now that Sweeney simply isn't capable of playing the field with any regularity. Josh Wilson will play first base in his place.

As expected. Sweeney returns to a .258/.323/.483 batting line to go along with a team-leading six homers and 16 RBI.

Mike Sweeney (back) is expected to come off the disabled list for Friday's opener against the Reds.
Sweeney has been sidelined since June 2 due to lower back inflammation. The sad part is that he is tied with Milton Bradley for the team lead in home runs with six. Matt Tuiasosopo is expected to be sent back down to the minor leagues upon his return.

Mariners placed DH Mike Sweeney on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 3, with a sore Achilles tendon.
Such is life for 36-year-old major leaguers. Sweeney has been his old consistent self at the plate this year, batting .258/.323/.483 with six home runs in less than 90 at-bats, but this Achilles injury may take some time to heal. Milton Bradley should see more time at DH moving forward.

Mike Sweeney, who had been out with a tight Achilles tendon, returned to action as the starting designated hitter on Sunday.
Sweeney went 1-for-5 with a single and the Achilles shouldn't be an issue going forward.

Mike Sweeney was held out of Saturday's lineup against the Angels with a tight Achilles tendon.
Sweeney is available to pinch hit. "We watched him run yesterday, and he has a little Achilles tightness so we'll give him a day," Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu said. Milton Bradley is starting at DH.

Wed May 26 201018:37Mariners' Sweeney hits sixth homer in win
Mike Sweeney went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the eighth inning Wednesday as the Mariners came back to beat the Tigers 5-4.
Sweeney started the scoring in the four-run eighth inning, hitting his sixth homer in his last ninth starts. On May 8, he was hitting .176/.263/.206 for the season. He didn't get another at-bat for five days, but he's been on fire since getting another shot and he's all of the way up to .309/.377/.603 now. Until he cools off, he'll get just as much playing time as his body can handle.

Mike Sweeney gets a rare start at first base for the Mariners on Sunday.
He's part of their DH platoon, but unlike Bradley, he's yet to play in the field this year. In fact, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, it's the first time he's played first base since May 25 of 2009. But he's been playing well and the M's want to keep his bat in the lineup, so with Ken Griffey Jr. set to DH, Sweeney takes over duties at first base.

Mike Sweeney went 4-for-5 with two homers and six RBI as the Mariners pounded the Padres 15-8 on Friday.
The ancient Mariners have finally come through, with Ken Griffey Jr. delivering the game-winner Thursday and now Sweeney suppliying his best game in years. It was his first multihomer game since 2005, though the 17th of his fine career.

Mike Sweeney homered for the third straight day on Saturday.
That there is a cleanup hitter. Sweeney had exactly zero extra-base hits in the month of April, but including a double on May 8, he has one in each of his last four starts. With his 2-for-4 day on Saturday, the 36-year-old is batting .333 (7-for-21) in May. It's nice to the see recent surge by the veteran, but this isn't exactly the way Jack Z drew it up over the winter.

Mike Sweeney was supposed to be the Mariners' designated hitter on Sunday, but has been scratched.
Milton Bradley moved from left field to DH and Eric Byrnes stepped in to play left field. No reason was given for Sweeney's removal from the lineup.
