Kotchman signed a minor league contract with the Royals on Friday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
Kotchman hasn't been affiliated with a team since 2013, when he played in six games with the Marlins but missed most of the season with an oblique injury. The veteran will provide organizational depth for the Royals, but it would likely take multiple injuries for him to crack the big league roster.

Mon Jun 3 201319:28Casey Kotchman will be regular at 1B
Casey Kotchman will be used as the Marlins' regular first baseman.
Greg Doggs is headed back to a bench role. Logan Morrison (knee) isn't far from a return, so Kotchman's status as the everyday first baseman doesn't figure to last long. He's worth playing in NL-only league until LoMo is back, though.
