Dodgers released RHP Ian Snell.
Snell was knocked around to the tune of an 11.05 ERA over 22 innings with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate last year. The 30-year-old is a longshot to get another shot in the majors at this point.

Tue Jun 14 201109:30Snell reports to Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate
Ian Snell has reported to the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Snell signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers in late May after initially considering retirement in the wake of a breakup with the Cardinals. It would be foolish to expect much from the veteran right-hander.

Sat Apr 9 201111:18Ian Snell considering returning
Ian Snell, who said last month that he was going to retire, is considering a return.
Evidently he realized he didn't have the potential to make 6+ figures in his next job endeavor. Snell's agent, Joe Sroba, said Friday that his client would likely make a decision on his future within a week. Returning to the Cardinals, who he was on a minor league deal with before his abrupt retirement, is a possibility.

Tue Mar 15 201115:34Snell retires rather than report to minors
Ian Snell has decided to retire rather than report to Cardinals minor league camp.
Snell signed a minor league deal with the Cards in January and had an out-clause if he wasn't called up by a certain date, but evidently he doesn't want to wait. The right-hander simply hasn't been the same pitcher since his successful two-year stint from 2006-07 with the Pirates. He's still just 29, but he apparently is through with trying to resurrect his career.

Sat Feb 12 201111:31Snell suffered through elbow issues in 2010
Ian Snell has revealed that he pitched much of 2010 with a sore elbow.
Snell referred to the recurring soreness as "golfer's elbow" and said he felt better after a week off. The right-hander also had oral surgery a month ago after he got hit in the jaw during a workout at the gym, which required him having titanium placed into the left side of his mouth. He is behind his normal offseason routine because of the surgery, having started throwing just a couple weeks ago. Snell, 29, signed a minor league deal with the Cards early in the year hoping that pitching guru Dave Duncan will be able to turn his career around. He'll begin the season as injury insurance at Triple-A.

Mon Feb 7 201114:16Snell will be in Triple-A to start the season
Ian Snell has agreed to begin the 2011 season at Triple-A Memphis.
Snell will be in big league camp this spring, but he will not be competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster. The Cardinals are likely to use him as emergency depth for their starting rotation. He made only 12 appearances in 2010 because of an injury and carries a poor 4.80 ERA and 1.55 WHIP.

Fri Jan 14 201113:05Cardinals sign RHP Snell to minor league deal
Cardinals signed RHP Ian Snell to a minor league contract.
Snell also receives an invite to camp. The 29-year-old has talent and is going to an organization knowing for cultivating it in lost pitching souls. For that alone, this seems like a good match. Snell posted a 3.76 in 208 innings for the Pirates in 2007 but has been flogged by major league hitters since, going a combined 14-27 with a 5.31 ERA in three seasons. If nothing else, he'll be solid depth at Triple-A.
Sun Jun 20 201015:18Snell clears waivers, headed to Triple-A
Mariners sent RHP Ian Snell outright to Triple-A Tacoma.
Snell got a bad rap as the Mariners' worst starter, sure he was bad, but he wasn't demonstrably worse than Sunday's starter Ryan Rowland-Smith. Snell excelled in Triple-A when he was in the Pirates organization, so perhaps a stint in Tacoma will do him good. If Seattle needs an emergency starter, they'll know where to find him.
Tue Jun 15 201015:57M's designate RHP Ian Snell for assignment
Mariners designated RHP Ian Snell for assignment.
Snell was moved to the bullpen last week after opening the season with a 6.11 ERA over his first eight starts. He surrendered three hits, two walks and four earned runs in two innings of mop-up duty Monday in the Mariners' 3-9 loss to the Cardinals. The 28-year-old may draw a little interest on waivers. If not, he will head to the M's Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma.
Fri Jun 11 201023:33M's move Ian Snell to bullpen
Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu announced Friday that Ian Snell will be moved to the bullpen.
The writing was on the wall after Snell was touched up for eight runs -- seven earned -- over just 1 2/3 innings against the Rangers on Wednesday. Snell has a 6.11 ERA over eight starts this season and a 5.89 ERA overall. Luke French, who was called up from Triple-A on Sunday, will take his place in the starting rotation. The 24-year-old left-hander was 4-5 with a 5.21 ERA in 12 starts and three relief appearances between the Tigers and Mariners last season.

Sun May 23 201000:33Mariners' Snell solid in return to rotation
Ian Snell allowed one run over five innings Saturday against the Padres in his return to the rotation.
Snell was surprisingly sharp, walking just one batter in an 83-pitch outing. One or two more like this and he'll be worth trying in AL-only leagues.
Thu May 20 201016:38Snell returning to M's rotation on Saturday
Ian Snell will officially return to the Mariners' starting rotation on Saturday night against the Padres.
Snell was bumped to the bullpen at the end of April when Cliff Lee was activated from the disabled list. He made three relief appearances, surrendering five earned runs in nine innings of mop-up duty. Lefty Ryan Rowland-Smith has been sent to the bullpen to clear room in the rotation.

Fri Apr 30 201021:21Snell officially moved to bullpen
With the return of Cliff Lee, Ian Snell will officially be moved to the bullpen.
"We called him in today and he was fine with it," said Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu. "He was on the radio last night talking about it. He was throwing 94-95 mph in his last start with a hard slider and competing was everything we asked him to do last start. But there's some guys in our rotation that we feel are pitching well and deserve to be in the rotation." Snell posted a 4.66 ERA and 1.86 WHIP over four starts, but was out-pitched by Jason Vargas and Doug Fister.

Thu Apr 29 201012:51Snell likely bullpen-bound with return of Lee
Ian Snell will likely head to the bullpen when Cliff Lee is activated from the disabled list on Friday.
Snell was arguably the No. 3 starter to begin the year, but he's fallen behind Doug Fister and Jason Vargas on the depth chart, posting a 4.66 ERA and 1.86 WHIP over four starts. "I will give 110 percent, that's all I can do, and let the cards fall where they might," said Snell. "If they end up trading somebody, or sending someone to the bullpen or sending someone down, they have to live with that. That has happened to me before and I was fine. As long as I'm still playing baseball, I'm happy."

Tue Apr 27 201023:28Snell takes no-decision in win over Royals
Ian Snell limited the Royals to two runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings of a no-decision on Tuesday.
In what might be his last start for awhile, Snell was passable, striking out four and walking three. He was looking at a loss until the M's rallied against Kansas City's bullpen. Snell is in danger of losing his spot in the rotation when Cliff Lee is activated off the disabled list. If so, he takes a 4.66 ERA to the bullpen.
Sun Apr 25 201014:25When Lee returns, Snell could be odd man out
Ian Snell is in danger of losing his spot in the rotation when Cliff Lee is activated off the disabled list.
Going into the year, it didn't seem likely that Snell would be the Mariners' most expendable starter, but with the emergence of Doug Fister and Jason Vargas, that certainly seems to be the case. Snell has given up eight runs and walked eight in just 14 innings of work.
Sun Apr 18 201019:19Snell returns from the flu to take loss
Ian Snell, who had been away from the team due to a death in the family and then had been struggling with the flu, returned to action to give up three runs in five innings and take a loss against the Tigers.
Snell walked four, struck out four, and gave up five hits. Three of the runs came on a homer by Miguel Cabrera. Snell will get the White Sox next time out, but even if he's feeling better he's too risky of an option to use in AL-only leagues.
Sun Apr 18 201008:38Snell expected to start despite battling flu
Ian Snell was struggling with flu-like symptoms on Saturday, but manager Don Wakamatsu did not believe it would prevent him from making his start Sunday.
Something worth keeping an eye on as Snell takes the mound against the Tigers Sunday. He was away from the team this week dealing with family issues and now he's not well physically. If you were considering streaming Snell, it might behoove you to look elsewhere as there are now a few signs pointing toward a short start for the Mariners' right-hander.

Tue Apr 13 201008:48Snell expected to make next scheduled start
Ian Snell, who had a death in the family over the weekend, is expected to return to the Mariners for his next scheduled start.
Snell doesn't take the hill again until Saturday, so he has plenty of time to take care of business at home and then make his way back. The righty is 0-1 through two starts this season with a 5.00 ERA.
