RHP Mark Lowe has largely been confined to pitching in lost causes most of the season but Sunday showed a flash of his potential, the kind of pitcher he was last year with Seattle and Toronto. "I thought Mark Lowe, who hadn't pitched in a week, looked as sharp as he has in a long time," manager Brad Ausmus said. Lowe gave up a leadoff triple in the eighth then struck the next three batters out. He stayed in the game and fanned the leadoff hitter in the ninth, too, before coming out. His strikeout pitch was a solid slider.

RHP Mark Lowe hardly ever pitches in tight games any more, with Friday night being a prime example of why. Lowe came in for the eighth inning trying to keep Boston's lead at 8-2. While Lowe hasn't been nearly the same pitcher in Toronto as he was in Seattle, he still holds a 1.80 ERA on the season and is trusted in higher leverage situations.

Lowe pitched a spotless inning in Saturday's victory against the Yankees, recording a strikeout in the process.

After a shaky start to his Blue Jays career, giving up three runs and taking the loss, Lowe has been perfect in his last three appearances, notching two strikeouts over that span. With an ERA of 1.60 and a WHIP of 1.17, Lowe is one of the more reliable options in a rapidly restocked Jays' pen.

His ERA nearly doubled to 1.20, and he has 39 strikeouts to nine unintentional walks in 30 innings. He's been mentioned as a possible ninth-inning option, but he'll likely keep pitching in his usual set-up role.

Lowe entered camp a long shot to crack the Opening Day roster, and now his slim chances have been eliminated. It's unclear if his contract included an opt out clause, but he'll likely start the season in the minors.

Aside from seven appearances with the big club in May and June, Lowe spent the 2014 season with the Indians' Triple-A Columbus affiliate, posting a 5.62 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 41.2 innings. He'll get to make his case for a bullpen spot in the spring, but it seems likely Lowe will once again start the year at Triple-A.
