Sat Mar 28 201517:37Schierholtz released by Rangers on Saturday
Schierholtz was released by the Rangers on Saturday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Upon learning that he would not make the major league roster out of camp, Schierholtz seemingly asked out of his minor league deal, and the Rangers obliged. The 31-year-old Schierholtz struggled in Cactus League play this spring, going 9-for-34 with seven strikeouts, two walks and zero extra-base hits.
Sat Mar 28 201514:21Schierholtz told he won't make Rangers' roster out of camp
Schierholtz has been told he won't make the Rangers' roster out of camp, the Fort Worth Star Telegram's Stefan Stevenson reports.
He lost out on the competition for the left field spot, which is one of the weaker starting spots in all of baseball, considering Jake Smolinski and Ryan Rua will be featured there. Schierholtz will now spend most of 2015 in Triple-A after signing a minor league deal with Texas this offseason.

Schierholtz remains in the competition for the open left field spot despite just 10 at-bats this spring, the team's web site reports.
Schierholtz battled some shoulder soreness early in the spring that limited him early on, but he remains part of a wide-open competition with less than three weeks before the season opens.

Schierholtz signed a minor league contract with the Rangers on Friday, which includes an invite to spring training.
The Rangers are slated to go into the season with Michael Choice starting in right field, so it definitely makes sense to add a veteran corner outfielder. Schierholtz hit just .195 with seven homers and four steals in 383 plate appearances last season, so it's not surprising that he couldn't score a big league deal, but there is still a chance that he makes the team out of spring training.

Schierholtz got a start in right field Sunday, going 1-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI.
He's hitting just .182 in 33 at-bats since joining the Nationals, so even though Schierholtz will likely pick up a handful of at-bats this week as the club rests its starters before the postseason, he likely isn't worth considering for a roster spot.
Sat Aug 23 201412:39Schierholtz called up from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday
Schierholtz was called up from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday.
Schierholtz will join the big club after just four games with Syracuse, filling the veteran depth role vacated by Nate McLouth (shoulder). In 99 games with the Cubs prior to his release, Schierholtz batted just .192/.240/.300 with six homers and 33 RBI, and it's hard to imagine the change of scenery will lead to a significant turnaround.

Whether and when Schierholtz gets called up to the major league roster could depend on the health of Nate McLouth, the Washington Post reports.
McLouth is currently on the DL and getting his shoulder checked out, which leaves the Nationals' bench a little short on left-handed hitting options. Should the club determine that McLouth won't be able to help them down the stretch expect him to be shifted to the 60-day DL, which would open a spot on the 40-man roster for Schierholtz.

Schierholtz agreed to terms on a minor league contract with the Nationals on Wednesday.
Schierholtz was was released by the Cubs last Wednesday, but will provide the Nationals with depth at outfield. He hit just .192/.240/.300 over 99 games with the Cubs this season, but the veteran has a good enough track record to be given a chance by the Nationals, albeit at the minor league level.
Wed Aug 13 201419:12Schierholtz placed on release waivers
Schierholtz has been placed on release waivers, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The Cubs booted Schierholtz from their 40-man roster last week after he hit just .192/.240/.300 in 99 games with the club this season. Schierholtz will become a free agent by Friday, and despite his struggles this season, he did smack 21 homers last year and may draw interest from around the league as a bench bat.

Schierholtz was designated for assignment Wednesday, MLB.com reports.
With Kyuji Fujikawa activated from the DL, Schierholtz was DFA'd to make room on the roster. He'll head to waivers, and if he's cleared will likely be outrighted to Triple-A Iowa. On the year, Schierholtz is hitting just .192 with 33 RBI and 76 strikeouts in 313 at-bats.
Mon Jun 30 201422:30Nate Schierholtz homers, doubles
Nate Schierholtz had a two-run homer and a double against the Red Sox on Monday.
It looks like Schierholtz is showcasing himself against a team that has considered him in the past and still needs some outfield help. He's had a really tough year, with a .205 average and just four homers in 249 at-bats. Still, the Cubs haven't had much choice but to stick with him against righties.

The knock was Schierholtz' only hit in four at-bats. Despite being in the midst of a down year -- he's batting .221/.276/.321 after Sunday's game -- the triple was his third of the year. He can be left alone outside of the deepest of NL-only leagues.

Sat May 31 201400:17Schierholtz smacks second homer of season
Nate Schierholtz went 2-for-4 with a solo homer Friday against the Brewers.
Schierholtz went without a home run over his first 42 games this season, but he has done deep twice in his last four games. Perhaps he's finally ready to take off. After hitting .251 with 21 home runs and .770 OPS last season, the 30-year-old has been a big disappointment for the Cubbies in 2014.

Mon May 26 201419:59Nate Schierholtz homers vs. former team
Nate Schierholtz singled and ripped a solo homer against his former team in Monday's win over the Giants.
It wasn't a cheapie, either, as Schierholtz put one over the deep right-center field wall. The longball was the outfielder's first of the season after he went deep a career-high 21 times last season. He's hitting just .214/.269/.292.

Sat May 10 201400:06Nate Schierholtz goes 0-for-4 in loss
Nate Schierholtz went 0-for-4 and struck out twice Friday against the Braves.
Schierholtz has gone hitless in five of his last six games to knock his average back down to .197. If the Cubs had anyone else to play, Schierholtz would probably be losing some playing time. As is, they've lost Justin Ruggiano and Ryan Sweeney from what, if healthy, might still be the game's weakest outfield, leaving them little choice but to remain patient with Schierholtz.

Fri Apr 18 201418:41Schierholtz continues to struggle in loss
Nate Schierholtz continued his early season struggles, going 0-for-4 in Friday's loss to the Reds.
Schierholtz, hitting in the cleanup spot in manager Rick Renteria's lineup, also left four runners on base in the contest. He's hitting a paltry .231/.241/.288 with no homers and four RBI in his first 13 games. If the bat doesn't start to heat up soon, he could begin losing playing time to Junior Lake, Justin Ruggiano or Ryan Kalish.
