Fri Jan 3 201421:22Freddy Sanchez open to making comeback
According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, Freddy Sanchez still has yet to officially retire and remains open to the idea of making a comeback.
The 36-year-old infielder missed the entire 2012 season due to shoulder and back surgeries, then sat out the 2013 campaign as he was unable to find a team willing to give him a shot. Even if he does secure a minor league deal someplace, he's unlikely to regain any fantasy relevancy.

Sun Feb 17 201318:57Freddy Sanchez says he's not ready to retire
Freddy Sanchez told CSNBayArea.com that he has no plans of retirement and is hoping to sign with a team in spring training.
Sanchez's "dream situation" would be to re-sign with the Giants. Despite missing all of 2012 due to shoulder and back surgeries, he's still holding out for a guaranteed contract, but will likely need to lower his demands if he has any chance of signing with a team this season.

Mon Jan 7 201321:1420 teams ask for Freddy Sanchez's medicals
Freddy Sanchez's agent, Paul Cobbe, has told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick that "about 20 teams" have asked for the second baseman's medical records.
Cobbe contends that his client is healthy and says Sanchez has been playing pickup basketball six days a week to stay in shape. Sanchez missed all of 2012 due to shoulder and back surgeries, but he was able to play in several instructional league games as a DH. He's a huge health risk for 2013 but could be worth a shot on a non-guaranteed deal.

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Freddy Sanchez has received interest from multiple teams this offseason.
It's not clear if the Cardinals are one of the teams that have considered signing him, but he's yet to receive an offer. Sanchez missed all last season due to injuries and hasn't played since 2011. Assuming he's healthy, the 35-year-old will likely have to reestablish his value on a minor league deal.

Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) still hopes to make it back this season.
The assumption was that Sanchez would miss the rest of the season following back surgery in July, but he's currently working out at the Giants' complex in Scottsdale and will soon begin playing in instructional league games. While Giants head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner calls it a "highly unlikely" scenario, the 34-year-old hopes to be an option off the bench down the stretch.

Thu Jul 5 201217:43Freddy Sanchez out for '12 after back surgery
Freddy Sanchez will miss the rest of the season following back surgery.
The surgery, which took place Thursday, involved removing a piece of a disc from his back. The 34-year-old began the season on the disabled list following shoulder surgery, but the back issue crept up during his rehab process. His contract expires after this season, so there's a good chance his Giants' career is over.

Tue Jun 26 201219:55Freddy Sanchez 'not close'
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Freddy Sanchez (back) is "not close" to returning.
"It's been so long," Bochy said. "He's not close right now." Sanchez has received a pair of epidural injections in his lower back, and it's still a question as to how healthy his surgically-repaired shoulder is. Needless to say, he shouldn't be counted on to make an impact this season.

Sanchez was shut down for close to two weeks after getting an epidural in his back in late May to calm some renewed discomfort. He's feeling better and doing light workouts, but there's still no timetable for the veteran second baseman's return to the major leagues. He's doubtful to arrive in June.

Sun May 27 201212:07Sanchez gets another epidural injection
Freddy Sanchez has received another epidural injection in his lower back.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Sanchez is "not doing anything. It's obviously a setback." The manager added that the team is "not giving up," but it's totally up in the air as to when Sanchez will return, and he's not a good bet to stay healthy when he finally does.

Fri May 18 201214:04Freddy Sanchez improving
Freddy Sanchez has reported improvement since receiving an epidural injection in his lower back, but he's yet to be cleared to resume baseball-related activities.
It's pointless to attach a timetable to Sanchez at this point. He's still not able to make pain-free throws from second base due to his surgically-repaired shoulder, and his back might be an even bigger issue at this point. The Giants are seeking middle infield help from outside the organization.

Sanchez recently underwent an MRI on his lower back after it locked up on him while he was rehabbing from shoulder surgery. The 34-year-old hasn't played in a major league game since last June 4 and there's no telling when he'll make it back at this point.

Wed May 9 201220:53Freddy Sanchez plays third base
Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) played seven innings at third base in an extended spring training game Wednesday.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said it's easier on Sanchez's surgically-repaired shoulder to throw from third base as opposed to second, so the team will evaluate his ability to play there going forward. We doubt this means that they've given up on him playing second, but at this point they're just trying to get him back as soon as possible. He could potentially see some starts at the hot corner if he beats Pablo Sandoval (hand) back from the DL.

Sat May 5 201214:43Sanchez '50-50' to return in May
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said its ''50-50'' whether Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) would return in May.
Sanchez experienced a setback last week due to renewed soreness in his surgically-repaired shoulder and resumed his throwing program Tuesday for the first time since being removed from his rehab assignment. As of now, he has no timetable. Sanchez will have to make some notable progress soon if he wants to make it back before the All-Star break.

Sun Apr 22 201211:04Freddy Sanchez to begin rehab Monday
Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A San Jose Monday.
He won't play the field yet but hopes to do so by the middle of the week. Sanchez had been slated to start his rehab last week, but it was pushed back because he still had some soreness in his surgically-repaired right shoulder. The Giants are hoping he'll be ready to join them in early May, but it's still uncertain as to whether Sanchez will be able to throw well enough to handle second base defensively.
