The Cowboys activated Moore from the practice squad, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

After putting a number of signal-callers through a tryout Tuesday -- namely, Christian Ponder, Matt Flynn, Josh Johnson, and McLeod Bethel-Thompson -- the Cowboys have opted to promote the in-house candidate. Expect Moore to compete with newcomer Matt Cassel for the backup QB gig to Brandon Weeden, which could provide Moore's first NFL snap during Tony Romo's (shoulder) extended stay on the sideline.

Moore has been signed to the Cowboys practice squad, the Dallas Morning News reports.

He rejoins Scott Linehan in Dallas after being released by the Lions. Moore likely won't have any value this season unless disaster strikes the Cowboys, but after a year in the system he could replace Brandon Weeden as Tony Romo's backup in 2016.

Moore was released by the Lions on Saturday, ESPN's Field Yates reports.

Moore lost out to Dan Orlovsky in the competition to serve as Matt Stafford's backup. The lefty will have to look for a new organization, as his practice-squad eligibility has been exhausted, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

Moore completed 16 of 22 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale, a win over the Bills.

Dan Orlovsky, by comparison, completed just two of four passes and threw an interception that was returned for the Bills' only touchdown of the game. Orlovsky has been second on the depth chart for the majority of camp and the odds are that that won't change after one preseason game. What Moore's performance could inform, however, is whether the Lions end up keeping two quarterbacks or three - a decision that would impact other position battles.

Moore has been working as the No. 2 quarterback during OTA's, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.

Moore too every second team snap at Thursday's session and he continues to hold onto the No. 2 spot on the depth chart ahead of Dan Orlovsky. The former Boise State standout has never taken an NFL regular season snap.

The Lions have re-signed Moore, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

With Dan Orlovsky also re-signed, Moore will likely serve as the No. 3 quarterback, though it's possible the lefty could make a run at the top backup job. A 2012 UDFA, the former Boise State standout has yet to attempt a pass in the NFL.

The Lions announced Thursday that Moore would not be tendered a contract for 2015, the Detroit Free Press reports.

As a result, Moore will become an unrestricted free agent. General manager Martin Mayhew did indicate a desire to re-sign Moore, who didn't see any snaps this past season as the Lions' No. 3 quarterback. If the Lions bring him back, Moore could be given the opportunity to compete for the top backup spot behind Matthew Stafford.

Moore was not active for any games during the 2014 season.

Matthew Stafford stayed healthy all year, as did top backup Dan Orlovsky. Orlovsky can become an unrestricted free agent in March, while Moore will be a restricted free agent. It's thus possible that Moore moves up a rung to No. 2 on the depth chart in 2015.

Lions coach Jim Caldwell hinted he plans to keep three quarterbacks this season.

"It's tough this day and age, with the way our game is, without a third quarterback," Caldwell admitted. "I've had a couple places where we carried two. We'll see what happens." Kellen Moore has spent the last two years as Detroit's No. 3 quarterback, but needs to have a strong camp to secure his roster spot and will be pushed by rookie James Franklin. Dan Orlovsky is slated to open the season as Matthew Stafford's backup.

The bulked up Moore has shown significant improvement in Year 2. Through three preseason games, he's gone 20-of-30 (66.6 percent) for 223 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. It's good for a 110.8 passer rating. The Lions are grooming Moore as Matthew Stafford's long-term backup as 33-year-old Shaun Hill enters the final year of his contract.

Coach Jim Schwartz isn't sure if the Lions will carry three quarterbacks in 2012.

The Lions have only Shaun Hill and undrafted free agent Kellen Moore under contract behind Matthew Stafford. Moore says he signed with the Lions in part because they only had two other quarterbacks. Unless Moore absolutely tanks in camp, Stafford's injury history will likely compel Detroit to carry three signal callers.
