Sun Feb 3 201309:0916-year veteran Millwood announces retirement
Kevin Millwood has announced his retirement from baseball.
Millwood, 38, wanted to catch on with the Braves or Rays, teams that are close to his Gainesville, Georgia home, but after that didn't happen he's decided to hang it up. "I feel like I can still throw it well and going out on a high note is a big deal," Millwood said. "I just felt it was time to be closer to home and to be around the kids more often." Millwood retires with 169 wins, a 4.11 ERA, one All-Star game appearance and one ERA title after 16 seasons.

Kevin Millwood said Friday that he is considering retirement.
Millwood had a 4.25 ERA and 107/56 K/BB ratio in 161 innings over 28 starts this season prior to going down with a sore shoulder earlier this month. The 37-year-old right-hander just isn't sure if he wants to put his body through another season. "I knew I wanted to play this year," said Millwood. "But like I said, now I'm just trying to figure out physically if I can do it. I still definitely believe I can get people out, but whether it's time to stay home and spend more time with my kids or try it again, I don't know the answer to that yet." Millwood has 169 wins and a 4.11 ERA over 16 major league seasons.

That's positive - but a little confusing, too." Millwood will be checked out by the Mariners' doctors, but manager Eric Wedge also sounded optimistic the veteran righty would be able to take the ball his next time out.
