Mon May 2 201109:30Wellemeyer to make first AAA start Thursday
Todd Wellemeyer (hip) will make his first start at Triple-A Iowa on Thursday.
Wellemeyer has been sidelined since the middle of spring training by a hip injury. He's ready now to begin making minor league starts and could be in line for a spot outing with the Cubs if everything goes well down on the farm. "I feel stronger than ever, really,'' he said Sunday. ``Now it's just a matter of breaking the arm in and getting the durability up.''

Sun Mar 6 201116:15Wellemeyer posts usual outing
Todd Wellemeyer allowed three hits and one walk in two innings of work on Sunday afternoon, tallying two strikeouts in the process.
About what is to be expected from Wellemeyer, who is fighting to be the Cubs' mop-up man this spring. He's far from guaranteed to make the Opening Day roster.

Tue Jan 25 201114:53Cubs ink Todd Wellemeyer to minors deal
Cubs signed RHP Todd Wellemeyer to a minor league contract.
The right-hander can make $800,000 if he makes the Cubs' Opening Day roster and finds a way to remain on it all year. If not, Wellemeyer simply get a prorated cut of that salary for however long he spends up in the bigs. Our guess is that he will fail to win a bullpen gig during spring training and is sent to Triple-A Iowa, where he will operate as emergency depth.
Tue Jan 25 201113:37Cubs agree to one-year deal with Wellemeyer
The Cubs have agreed to a one-year deal with righty Todd Wellemeyer, according to Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago.
The non-guaranteed contract will be worth $800,000 if Wellemeyer lands a spot on the Cubs' Opening Day roster. He turned in a poor 5.52 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 13 appearances (11 starts) last season for the Giants and will probably battle for a long relief spot in the Chicago bullpen this spring.

Tue Aug 17 201016:05Giants release Wellemeyer
Giants released RHP Todd Wellemeyer.
Wellemeyer ate some innings for the Giants earlier this season but belongs nowhere near a playoff caliber pitching stuff. He posted a 5.52 ERA over 11 starts and will probably look for a bullpen gig elsewhere.
Mon Aug 9 201018:55Giants DFA RHP Todd Wellemeyer
Giants designated RHP Todd Wellemeyer for assignment.
The Giants called up Emmanuel Burriss - for reasons unknown, but perhaps to spell the struggling Freddy Sanchez from time to time - and needed the roster slot. Wellemeyer was never really good, but was serviceable while he kept his walks down. Now he's walking over five a game. He's not interesting in any fantasy league.
Thu Aug 5 201016:04Giants activate Wellemeyer from disabled list
Giants activated RHP Todd Wellemeyer from the 15-day disabled list.
Wellemeyer has been groomed as a starter on his minor league rehab assignment, but he will be used out of the bullpen initially. Even if he is moved back to the starting rotation, he will not be a fantasy option.
Mon Aug 2 201017:16Wellemyer (quad) may join bullpen
Todd Wellemeyer (quad) may take Denny Bautista's spot in the bullpen.
At least according to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News. Bautista's 3.32 ERA looks pretty good, as does his strikeout rate, however he has walked 26 batters in 32 innings and posted a 7.71 ERA over 11 appearances in July. Wellemeyer is expected to travel with the team to Denver, but will likely make one more minor league rehab start with Triple-A Fresno. He posted a 5.52 ERA over 11 starts before going on the disabled list with a right quad strain in June.

Sun Jul 25 201015:11Wellemeyer might get one more rehab start
Todd Wellemeyer has allowed only one run over 9 1/3 innings during his rehab at Triple-A Fresno, but he's likely to get one more rehab start.
The right-hander's stuff has looked good, but his control hasn't, as he's walked nine batters, including six over 4 1/3 frames in his last start. When he does return to the Giants, it's expected to be as a long reliever.

Tue Jul 20 201010:33Todd Wellemeyer throws five shutout innings
Todd Wellemeyer (quad) threw five shutout innings on Monday in an impressive rehab start for Triple-A Fresno.
Wellemeyer held the opposing Salt Lake Bees to one hit and should be awfully close to returning to the major leagues. He may be used out of the bullpen initially, but he's stretched out enough for starting duties. The right-hander had a 5.52 ERA over 12 appearances (11 starts) before hitting the DL.

Sun Jul 18 201008:50Wellemeyer to throw 70 pitches Monday
Todd Wellemeyer (quad) is scheduled to throw approximately 70 pitches for Triple-A Fresno on Monday.
The Giants want to increase the right-hander's durability so that he'd be available as an emergency starter, not just a reliever. Wellemeyer has been out since mid-June with a strained right quadriceps.

Thu Jul 15 201019:09Wellemeyer begins rehab assignment in AZL
Todd Wellemeyer (quad) threw 2 2/3 innings in a rehab game Wednesday with the Giants' affiliate in the rookie-level Arizona League.
Wellemeyer will report to Triple-A Fresno on Monday to continue rehabbing. The Giants have not said whether he will return as a starter or reliever, but they may as well groom him for long distance. Placed on the disabled list June 11 with a quad strain, he should be back in the bigs by early August.

Tue Jun 29 201011:31Wellemeyer could return to Giants as reliever
Giants manager Bruce Bochy left open the possibility Monday that Todd Wellemeyer could return as a reliever.
Wellemeyer was placed on the disabled list with a right quad strain back on June 11 and isn't expected to return until we get a little closer to the All-Star break. He had a 5.52 ERA over 11 starts and one relief appearance. Madison Bumgarner has since grabbed his spot in the starting rotation.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that Todd Wellemeyer (quad) is still at least two weeks away.
Wellemeyer is currently rehabbing an injury to his right quad at the team's spring training complex in Arizona. He posted a 5.52 ERA over 12 appearances (11 starts) before going on the disabled list earlier this month.

Fri Jun 11 201019:21Todd Wellemeyer (quad) placed on DL
Giants placed RHP Todd Wellemeyer on the 15-day disabled list with a right quad strain.
As expected. Wellemeyer injured the quad while trying to leg out a double-play groundball against the Reds on Thursday. He has a 5.52 ERA over 11 starts and one relief appearance this season.
Thu Jun 10 201016:40Wellemeyer could face stint on disabled list
Bruce Bochy said that Todd Wellemeyer (quad) was "more than likely" headed to the disabled list, according to Andrew Baggarly.
Wellemeyer injured his quad while running the bases against the Reds on Thursday. Baggarly speculates that either Madison Bumgarner or Joe Martinez could be the called up if Wellemeyer is indeed placed on the disabled list.

Thu Jun 10 201013:35Wellemeyer leaves with apparent leg injury
Todd Wellemeyer left Thursday's start against the Reds with an apparent leg injury.
Wellemeyer suffered the injury while running out a double-play groundball to end the top of the third inning. He was replaced by Denny Bautista to start the bottom of the third.

Mon Jun 7 201018:01Wellemeyer still scheduled to start Thursday
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that Todd Wellemeyer is still scheduled to start on Thursday against the Reds "right now."
"Right now Wellemeyer is our starter," said Bochy. "We haven't changed anything." Bochy won't say it yet, but there's a very strong chance that Madison Bumgarner or Joe Martinez make the start instead.

Sat Jun 5 201022:19Wellemeyer hammered as Giants fall to Bucs
Todd Wellemeyer was shelled for nine hits and six earned runs in just three innings Saturday as the Giants lost to the Pirates.
At some point the Giants have to stop handing this guy the ball, right? Including tonight's miserable showing, Wellemeyer is 3-5 with a 1.52 WHIP and a 5.72 ERA. He walked three and struck out only two.
Wed May 26 201000:54Giants' Wellemeyer beats Nationals
Pitching to keep his rotation spot, Todd Wellemeyer allowed two runs over six-plus innings in a win over the Nationals on Tuesday.
Wellemeyer took a shutout into the seventh before allowing three straight singles, scoring one run. Sergio Romo took over and managed to strand one of the two baserunners, and the Giants went on to win 4-2. Wellemeyer likely would have been replaced by Eric Hacker in the rotation had he struggled again tonight. He's currently 3-4 with a 5.36 ERA.
