Fri Jul 4 201410:32Jonathan Sanchez released by Cubs
Cubs released LHP Jonathan Sanchez.
Sanchez was lit up for five runs over two-thirds of an inning in his lone appearance for Triple-A Iowa back on April 4 and has been on the DL with a shoulder injury since then. It's not clear at this point when he'll be physically ready to pitch. The 31-year-old hasn't been an effective pitcher for a long time.

Mon Mar 10 201418:40Sanchez gets the save against the Giants
Jonathan Sanchez got the save in Monday's 3-2 win over the Giants.
Sanchez retired the Giants in order in the ninth, though two of the outs were on line drives. The left-hander, a non-roster invitee, is trying to earn a spot in the Cubs' bullpen, but he hasn't had a great spring. He has allowed five runs in 4 2/3 innings in the Cactus League.

Mon Feb 24 201423:22Sanchez trying to make team as reliever
Non-roster invitee Jonathan Sanchez is trying to make the Cubs' Opening Day roster as a reliever.
Just five of Sanchez's 134 appearances since 2008 have come in relief, but the left-hander is at a crossroads in his career and is willing to give the conversion a shot. The 31-year-old is feeling good about how his stuff has been early on in camp. "I've got my speed, my slider, my split - everything is there," he said. "I'm getting back to where I was." Sanchez owns an 8.73 ERA and has more walks than strikeouts over the last two seasons. However, if his stuff is indeed back, it wouldn't be a shock to see him turn into a useful bullpen open for the Cubs.

Wed Dec 18 201323:26Cubs ink Jonathan Sanchez to minors deal
Cubs signed LHP Jonathan Sanchez to a minor league contract.
Sanchez has fallen a long way since throwing a no-hitter in 2009, posting an 11.85 ERA over 13 2/3 innings with the Pirates this past season. He was eventually released by Pittsburgh in early May, later catching on with the Dodgers and pitching in their system. It's a low-risk move for the Cubs, as Sanchez' deal includes incentives that only kick in if he makes it to the majors. The southpaw turned 31 in November.

Mon Dec 16 201309:07Cubs targeting left-hander Jonathan Sanchez
According to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs are targeting Jonathan Sanchez.
Sanchez is 1-12 with an 8.73 ERA, 2.15 WHIP and 60/61 K/BB ratio in 78 1/3 innings since the start of the 2012 season, but the Cubs have nothing to lose and can make him a reclamation project in 2014. The 31-year-old left-hander will presumably have to accept a non-guaranteed minor league contract given his recent struggles.

Sun Dec 15 201318:53Jonathan Sanchez narrows list to three teams
Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that free agent left-hander Jonathan Sanchez has narrowed his list to three teams and has a few offers on the table.
The 31-year-old reportedly had 7-8 teams show interest in his services. It would still be incredibly surprising to see him wind up with a major league deal, after posting a miserable 1-12 record, 8.73 ERA, 2.15 WHIP and 60/61 K/BB ratio over 78 1/3 innings the past two seasons.

Mon Jul 1 201313:30Jonathan Sanchez won't use opt-out with LAD
Jonathan Sanchez has decided not to opt out of his minor league contract with the Dodgers.
Sanchez had a July 1 opt-out date in his contract but is going to let it pass by. The 30-year-old left-hander has allowed six earned runs on 10 hits and five walks in eight innings since joining Triple-A Albuquerque. He is highly unlikely to climb his way to Los Angeles.

Wed May 15 201317:29Dodgers ink Jonathan Sanchez to minors deal
Dodgers signed LHP Jonathan Sanchez to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Sanchez can opt out of the deal on July 1 if he is not on Los Angeles' major league roster. The 30-year-old left-hander posted an 11.85 ERA and 2.42 WHIP in 13 2/3 innings earlier this season with the Pirates. He is doubtful to pull off a sudden turnaround.

Wed May 15 201315:10Dodgers to sign LHP Jonathan Sanchez
ESPN's Pedro Gomez reports that the Dodgers are set to sign left-hander Jonathan Sanchez, pending a physical.
The deal is expected to be made official Wednesday. Sanchez was released by the Pirates earlier this month after he posted an ugly 11.85 ERA and 15/8 K/BB ratio in 13 2/3 innings. He will function as rotation depth with Triple-A Albuquerque.

Tue May 14 201320:03Jonathan Sanchez close to deal with Dodgers
ESPN's Pedro Gomez reports that Jonathan Sanchez is "zeroing in" on a deal with the Dodgers.
Gomez says Sanchez "may need a few starts in the minors" before he's called up. With Zack Greinke returning Wednesday and Ted Lilly not far behind, there wouldn't appear to be a spot available in the Dodgers' rotation. He might just be stashed at Triple-A as insurance. The southpaw still needs to serve a six-game suspension for throwing at Cardinals' first baseman Allen Craig last month.

Wed May 8 201314:21Pirates release left-hander Jonathan Sanchez
Pirates released LHP Jonathan Sanchez.
Not surprisingly, Sanchez failed to draw any interest after he was designated for assignment early last week. The 30-year-old southpaw has an obscene 8.73 ERA and 60/61 K/BB ratio over 78 1/3 innings at the major league level dating back to the start of 2012.

Tue Apr 30 201315:24Pirates designate LHP Sanchez for assignment
Pirates designated LHP Jonathan Sanchez for assignment.
We figured it wouldn't be long, as Sanchez owns a miserable 11.85 ERA and 15/8 K/BB ratio in 13 2/3 innings this season and was recently suspended six games for throwing at Cardinals' first baseman Allen Craig. It's unlikely he'll draw much interest on waivers.

Mon Apr 29 201317:28Pirates move Jonathan Sanchez to bullpen
The Pirates have moved Jonathan Sanchez to the bullpen.
Sanchez owns a brutal 12.71 through four starts and is fortunate to have a roster spot at this point. The southpaw appealed his six-game suspension for throwing at Cardinals' first baseman Allen Craig during Friday's game, but there should be a decision on his status later this week. Jeanmar Gomez will take his place in the rotation Wednesday against the Brewers, but he's not a recommended option in fantasy leagues.

Sat Apr 27 201315:39MLB suspends Jonathan Sanchez six games
Jonathan Sanchez has been suspended six games for hitting Allen Craig with a pitch in Friday's loss to the Cardinals.
Sanchez intentionally threw at Craig after allowing back-to-back home runs to Matt Carpenter and Carlos Beltran and a single to Matt Holliday to open the game. Already barely holding on to his roster spot, Sanchez is a now a candidate to be demoted from the Pirates' rotation. He has a brutal 12.71 ERA in four starts this season.

Fri Apr 26 201320:42Jonathan Sanchez ejected in first inning
Jonathan Sanchez was ejected from Friday's game against the Cardinals after hitting Allen Craig with a pitch.
Sanchez started the game by allowing back-to-back home runs to Matt Carpenter and Carlos Beltran. He then surrendered a single to Matt Holliday before showing his frustration by drilling Craig. He now owns a horrifying 12.71 ERA and 2.56 WHIP on the season, and shouldn't be started in even the deepest of NL-only leagues at this point.

Mon Apr 22 201318:19Jonathan Sanchez to remain in rotation
Jonathan Sanchez will remain in the Pirates' rotation for now.
Sanchez lasted just three innings Sunday and now has an 11.12 ERA for the season. While he will stay in the rotation for the time being, he's going to get the boot before long, as Francisco Liriano and others are due back from the disabled list soon.

Mon Apr 22 201313:30Jonathan Sanchez lasts just three frames
Jonathan Sanchez allowed two runs on four hits and three walks over just three frames but escaped with a no-decision in Sunday's 4-2 victory over the Braves.
Sanchez struck out five, but he was wild and went into many deep counts, requiring 75 pitches to cover the three frames. The Bucs' bullpen bailed him out, but manager Clint Hurdle isn't going to put up with Sanchez and his 11.12 ERA much longer. He'll be out of a job once Francisco Liriano returns, and maybe sooner. If he's still part of the rotation, he'll face the Cardinals next weekend.

Wed Apr 10 201318:49Jonathan Sanchez pounded by Diamondbacks
Jonathan Sanchez was pounded for nine runs in 3 2/3 innings by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
Sanchez had a decent first start versus the Dodgers, but the Diamondbacks were all over him today, collecting two homers, two doubles and four singles against him. And since it was Jonathan Sanchez, there were some walks mixed in too; four to be exact, plus a hit by pitch. Sanchez's rotation spot is safe only until the Pirates get healthier.

Wed Mar 27 201316:32Pirates add Jonathan Sanchez to roster
Pirates purchased the contract of LHP Jonathan Sanchez from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Sanchez was told that he had won a spot in the Pirates' starting rotation on Tuesday. He posted a brutal 8.07 ERA in 64 2/3 innings last season between the Royals and Rockies, and can be ignored in all fantasy leagues.

Tue Mar 26 201308:54Jonathan Sanchez makes Pirates' rotation
Jonathan Sanchez has won a spot in the Pirates' starting rotation.
This means that the final spot in the Pirates' rotation is down to Jeff Locke, Kyle McPherson and Jeanmar Gomez. Sanchez, a non-roster invitee, holds a 4.73 ERA and 10/9 K/BB ratio over 13 1/3 innings this spring. Given his control issues, we're not expecting him to keep a rotation spot for long.
