LHP Brian Matusz will be promoted from Triple-A Iowa and start Sunday night's game against the Seattle Mariners, the Cubs announced Saturday evening. Matusz, 29, went 27-41 with a 4.85 ERA in parts of eight seasons with the Baltimore Orioles before signing with the Cubs in mid-June. In two starts at Triple-A Iowa, he was 0-0 with a 1.93 ERA. He walked three and struck out 11 in 9 1/3 innings.

Matusz began the season with the Baltimore Orioles, was traded to the Atlanta Braves and then released. Maddon is familiar with Matusz from his time as the manager of Tampa Bay when the lefty was with the Orioles. "An interesting sign for the Cubs," Maddon said. There is talk the Cubs could try and convert Matusz to a starter, though Maddon did not expound on that. Matusz grew up in Arizona and came up through the Orioles system as a starter.
