Fri Dec 19 201421:37Brian Wilson: Released By Dodgers
Wilson was released by the Dodgers on Friday, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports.
This move was effectively made Tuesday, when the Dodgers designated Wilson for assignment, but the three-time All-Star is now officially a free agent after clearing waivers. Wilson lost more than a mile per hour off his fastball last season, resulting in a career-worst 4.29 FIP over 48.1 innings. At 32, his days as a reliable back-end bullpen option are seemingly over.
Tue Dec 16 201415:05Brian Wilson: Designated For Assignment
The Dodgers designated Wilson for assignment Tuesday.
With Brandon McCarthy's signing becoming official, the Dodgers had to clear room on their 40-man roster. Wilson's $9.5 million salary for 2015 was already a sunk cost, and it seems the Dodgers just decided to cut their losses entirely and move on. A three-time All-Star, Wilson posted a 4.66 ERA and 1.61 WHIP last season as a 32-year-old, with 54 strikeouts against 29 walks.
Mon Nov 3 201416:46Wilson exercised option to return to Dodgers for 2015
Wilson exercised his option to return to the Dodgers for 2015.
The 32-year-old righty will make $9.5 million next year, which is certainly more than he would have received as a free agent, after posting one of the worst seasons of his career in 2014. He had a 4.66 ERA and a 13 percent walk rate in 48.1 innings last season, and will likely be used primarily in low-leverage innings next season.

Wilson has informed that Dodgers that he will exercise his player option for 2015, SB Nation's Chris Cotillo reports.
This was likely a no-brainer for Wilson, because after a 2014 season in which he posted a 4.66 ERA and 1.61 WHIP over 48.1 innings, he almost certainly wouldn't command a $9-10 million salary on the open market. The 32-year-old did average better than a strikeout per inning (10.1 K/9), but he'll make for a rather risky option in holds leagues next year given his control issues (5.4 BB/9).

Wilson has a six-game streak in which he has not allowed a run, a period covering 3.1 innings.
Perhaps the Dodgers have found a formula that works with the bearded one - not letting him fact more than a hitter or two per outing. Wilson still has a 4.85 ERA, but he's again pitching in late-game situations, so the holds should continue to be there as long as he has success.

Wilson has a 5.23 ERA and 1.87 WHIP in 32.2 innings and he's appeared in just five games all month.
Safe to say that Wilson will be exercising his $9 million player option for 2015. Still, the Dodgers could look to cut ties either way.
Fri May 16 201411:30Mattingly worried about Brian Wilson
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly admits to being concerned about the struggling Brian Wilson but says the reliever insists he's healthy.
"I don't think we're there," Mattingly said. "He tells Stan [Conte, head trainer] and all our guys -- we check with him all the time -- that he's fine. He says he's healthy." Wilson holds a 10.22 ERA and 2.43 WHIP over 16 appearances this season and has on occasion struggled to reach 90 mph on the radar gun. He was on the DL last month with an elbow issue, so you've got to wonder whether he's in fact healthy as he claims to be.

Fri Apr 25 201418:56Brian Wilson declares his elbow feels fine
Brian Wilson declared Friday that his elbow feels fine and that he's just not in sync at the moment.
The 32-year-old hurler has posted an uninspiring 15.75 ERA, 3.00 WHIP and 4/4 K/BB ratio through his first four innings of work on the season. Chris Perez appears to have surpassed him as the primary setup man, and should be considered the handcuff to Kenley Jansen at the moment.

Tue Apr 15 201420:25Brian Wilson activated from disabled list
Dodgers activated RHP Brian Wilson from the 15-day disabled list.
Wilson made a couple rehab appearances and had no issues with the nerve irritation in his right elbow. He'll resume a setup role ahead of Kenley Jansen.

Sun Apr 13 201414:57Wilson (elbow) says he's ready to return
Brian Wilson (elbow) said Sunday that he's ready to rejoin the Dodgers' bullpen.
Wilson threw a few simulated games and made a couple rehab appearances for High-A Rancho Cucamonga, and he evidently thinks that's enough. "Those were the five outings I needed," Wilson said. He should be activated from the DL on Tuesday when first eligible.

Fri Apr 4 201412:57Wilson (elbow) to begin rehab assignment Sat.
Brian Wilson (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday.
Wilson was just placed on the DL Wednesday, but he threw a bullpen session Friday and is now ready to test things out in a game. As long as the nerve irritation in his elbow doesn't act up again, it sounds like he should be activation in mid-April when eligible.

Tue Apr 1 201422:38Brian Wilson lands on DL with elbow injury
Dodgers placed RHP Brian Wilson on the 15-day disabled list with nerve irritation in his right elbow.
An MRI revealed no ligament damage, but it's not clear how long the reliever will be sidelined. The Dodgers first began worrying about Wilson's health during a March 10 Cactus League game and the concern intensified after he failed to record an out during Sunday's appearance versus the Padres. Wilson has undergone two Tommy John surgeries in his career, but it doesn't sound like an operation will be required here. Chris Perez figures to be next in line for saves behind Kenley Jansen while Wilson is out.

Tue Apr 1 201420:18Brian Wilson could be dealing with injury
Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports that Brian Wilson could be dealing with an injury.
Gurnick notes that Wilson's health "has been a cause of concern" since a spring training game on March 10 when he threw a pitch that caused pitching coach Rick Honeycutt to worry. He adds that Wilson "didn't look right" during Sunday's appearance when he allowed all five runners he faced to reach base. The reliever was not present on the field during batting practice prior to Tuesday's game, heightening the concern. The Dodgers should provide an update on Wilson's status later Tuesday.

Sun Mar 30 201423:04Brian Wilson hammered in loss to Padres
Brian Wilson took the loss in Sunday's domestic season opener against the Padres, as he was unable to protect a 1-0 lead in the eighth inning.
The veteran reliever was greeted by a game-tying homer off the bat of Seth Smith, and the wheels fell off the train shortly afterwards. Yasmani Grandal pinch-hit and drew a walk, then Everth Cabrera reached on an error. Both would come around to score on a base hit by Chris Denofria, and Chase Headley would reach on an error before Wilson was mercifully removed without recording an out. He's still second in line for saves in the Dodgers bullpen, but this outing didn't inspire confidence.

Tue Mar 4 201417:13Wilson throws a scoreless inning vs. Mariners
Brian Wilson got the start on Tuesday against the Mariners, throwing a scoreless inning.
Wilson held the Mariners hitless and recorded one strikeout. The right-hander is hoping to set up for closer Kenley Jansen. He may come across a save every so often on days Jansen can't go or needs some rest, but they should be few and far between.

Thu Dec 5 201322:08Brian Wilson's deal with Dodgers is official
Dodgers re-signed RHP Brian Wilson to a one-year, $10 million contract.
The deal also includes a player option for 2015 that ranges from $9-10 million, depending on how many appearances Wilson makes in 2014. Wilson had been looking for a closing gig, but the deep pocketed Dodgers were apparently willing to offer him more to be a setup man, and he jumped at the chance. Staying in L.A. is obviously bad news for his fantasy value, as it will take a Kenley Jansen injury for Wilson to see save chances.

Thu Dec 5 201314:45Brian Wilson agrees to terms with Dodgers
Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown reports that the Dodgers have signed Brian Wilson to a one-year, $10 million contract.
The deal also includes a player option for 2015 that ranges from $9-10 million, depending on how many appearances Wilson makes in 2014. "The Beard" apparently wasn't able to find a closing gig for enough money somewhere else, so he'll stick around as a high-priced setup man for Kenley Jansen. Wilson allowed just one run in 19 2/3 innings between the regular season and postseason in 2013.

Wed Dec 4 201323:09Wilson's deal with LAD could include option
The deal being discussed between Brian Wilson and the Dodgers would be a one-year contract with a player option for a second year, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports is hearing.
It was reported previously that the two sides were discussing a one-year deal, but the player option would basically make it a two-year commitment on the Dodgers' end. The 31-year-old would likely return as a setup man for closer Kenley Jansen, and with some success he could opt to decline the option and seek more money as a closer on the open market next offseason. No word on the terms of a potential deal.

Tue Dec 3 201312:47Dodgers, Brian Wilson talking one-year deal
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Dodgers and Brian Wilson are discussing a one-year contract.
This will enable Wilson to test the open market again next offseason, potentially to land a closer job elsewhere. The 31-year-old was excellent with the Dodgers after making his return from Tommy John surgery, allowing just one run in 19 2/3 innings between the regular season and postseason while setting up for Kenley Jansen.

Tue Dec 3 201311:58Dodgers close to deal with Brian Wilson
Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Dodgers and Brian Wilson appear to be "getting close" on a contract agreement.
This confirms a report from FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. Wilson was reportedly in "serious" discussions with the Tigers just one week ago, but the club has since moved on to Joe Nathan. The bearded reliever likely won't get the chance to close in Los Angeles, but he should get paid big bucks to set up for Kenley Jansen once again.
