The deal includes a spring training invite. Hinshaw, 30, had a 6.04 ERA and 36/21 K/BB ratio over 28 1/3 innings this season between the Padres and Cubs. The southpaw has allowed 15 homers in just 74 innings in the big leagues. We're not optimistic about him winning a roster spot. | ||||||

Hinshaw, 29, compiled a 4.80 ERA and 58/39 K/BB ratio over 45 innings this season between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Fresno in the Giants' organization. He hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2009 and unless his command improves, that trend will continue in 2012. | ||||||

Henry Schulman at the San Francisco Chronicle reported that Alex Hinshaw has added 20 pounds in order to maintain his strength throughout the upcoming season. | ||||||
We can only assume the extra weight is muscle mass and not the lard variety. Hinshaw is hoping to make a very different team than the one he last played for in 2009, when the Giants sent him to the minors in September of that year. The strikeout pitcher is hoping to land one of the last spots in the bullpen. | ||||||
