Affeldt (knee) was activated from the 15-day DL on Tuesday, Chris Haft of MLB.com reports.
The Giants added a 12th and 13th reliever Tuesday, activating Affeldt and calling up Cory Gearrin from Triple-A Sacramento. Affeldt has struggled to a 5.46 ERA and 1.60 WHIP between two DL stints this season after posting a 2.28 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 62 appearances a year ago.
Mon Sep 7 201515:21Affeldt (knee) expected to be activated from DL on Tuesday
Affeldt (knee) is expected to be activated from the DL on Tuesday, Chris Haft of MLB.com reports.
It appears Affeldt will miss only the minimum 15 days while dealing with a left knee subluxation. He was spotted wearing a brace Monday and told reporters that his biggest concern at this point is covering first base. Upon his return, the 36-year-old will provide depth as a left-hander out of the pen.
Tue Aug 25 201519:45Affeldt placed on 15-day DL with left knee subluxation Tuesday
Affeldt was placed on the 15-day DL with left knee subluxation Tuesday.
The move is retroactive to Aug. 24, and it is unclear how long the Giants expect to be without the veteran reliever. Affeldt, 36, missed time with a shoulder injury earlier this year, and age may finally be starting to catch up with him. Michael Broadway was recalled to take Affeldt's spot in the bullpen.
Wed Jul 22 201514:23Affeldt (shoulder) reinstated from DL
Affeldt (shoulder) has been reinstated from the DL, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
Affeldt hit the DL just under a month ago due to a left shoulder strain. He'll return to the Giants' bullpen and will likely be used situationally for an inning here and there. Affeldt has seven holds on the season and has not blown a save despite posting an ugly 5.96 ERA and 1.81 WHIP. In a corresponding move, San Francisco optioned Josh Osich on Wednesday.

Affeldt (shoulder) threw another bullpen session Friday, CSN Bay Area reports.
Three days after throwing his first bullpen session since landing on the DL, Affeldt got right back at it. He is slated to throw another bullpen session Sunday, and if his shoulder responds well, the lefty could head out for a brief rehab assignment next week -- perhaps just one appearance -- before returning to the active roster. Affeldt his managed to rack up seven holds without blowing a save this season despite a 5.96 ERA and 1.81 WHIP.

Affeldt failed to record a single out in Friday's win over the Rockies, as he was torched for four runs on five hits.
Fortunately for Affeldt, the Giants held an 11-4 lead when he entered the game, so his disastrous showing didn't end up dooming his team. Nonetheless, his ERA doubled as a result of the poor outing, jumping from 3.00 to 6.00. Affeldt has been one of the Giants' most trusted setup men for the last several seasons, but with his average fastball velocity down nearly two miles per hour from 2014, the 35-year-old's numbers may not be primed for much of a recovery.

Affeldt allowed three baserunners Monday in an inning of work against the Rockies but emerged without allowing a run.
A lefty specialist like Affeldt is subject to greater fluctuation in his ratios. A case in point, Affeldt's outing pushed his WHIP up to 1.88.

Affeldt (3-2) was lit up by the Nationals on Sunday, surrendering four runs on five hits and more importantly, the lead.
Affeldt failed to retire a single batter during his disastrous outing Sunday. It was his worst outing of the season, but the fact that it only raised his ERA to 2.72 indicates how well he has pitched the rest of the season. Unless there was an undisclosed injury, the 35-year-old veteran should bounce back from this poor outing.

Affeldt gave up one hit in a scoreless eighth inning as the Giants easily dispatched the White Sox by a 7-1 count on Wednesday.
Just an inning earlier, it looked like Affeldt might have been on track to enter the game with a one-run deficit, but the Giants plated seven runs in the home half of the seventh, following an overturned call at the plate that ignited the rally. Affeldt has been superb this season with a 1.69 ERA and 0.98 WHIP, but his left-handedness probably won't allow him to factor into the mix for saves on a given night, unless the opposition trots out a lefty-heavy order.
