NEW YORK (AP) — The Mets have signed reliever Arquimedes Caminero and outfielder Rymer Liriano to minor league contracts, adding depth in two areas where New York appeared thin.The team announced the moves Thursday, saying both players were invited to major league spring training.Caminero spent the past two seasons with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan. The 31-year-old righty was 1-1 with 11 saves and a 5.79 ERA over 20 games last year before having elbow surgery. He is pitching this offseason in the Dominican Winter League and had thrown five scoreless innings.Caminero had 29 saves and 65 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings for the Yomiuri Giants in 2017. He is 7-5 with a 3.83 ERA in 149 big league games with Pittsburgh, Miami and Seattle.The 27-year-old Liriano is a .220 career hitter with two home runs in 59 major league games with the San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox. OF Rymer Liriano will miss Chicago's next three games to be with his wife for the birth of their son. Liriano left Friday. He has played in 12 games with the White Sox, hitting .200.

LF Rymer Liriano hit a two-run home run Monday off Indians RHP Trevor Bauer. It was his first home run with the team and second of his career. The other was in 2014 when he was with San Diego. Liriano also had an RBI double Monday. He is batting .200.

G Rymer Liriano had his contract purchased from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday after RF Leury Garcia was placed on the 10-day disabled list. Liriano, 26, was hitting .256 with 17 home runs and 52 RBIs in 123 gams this season with Charlotte. Liriano appeared in 38 games with the San Diego Padres in 2014 in his only big-league season.

OF Rymer Liriano, who sustained facial fractures when hit in the face by a pitch Sunday, was back in the Brewers' clubhouse Monday.Liriano will be placed on the disabled list and will miss Opening Day, but the timetable for his return is uncertain, manager Craig Counsell said.

Liriano, 24, is slashing .277/.376/.439 with 11 home runs and 13 steals in 442 plate appearances with Triple-A El Paso.

It was a bit disappointing to see the Padres do nothing at the trade deadline, ensuring that Liriano will stay in the minors until at least September. However, Will Venable and Justin Upton will be free agents this offseason, so it is quite possible that Liriano will make the Opening Day roster in 2016. He is the best right fielder in the organization and his bat appears ready for another test against big league pitching. Liriano will probably never hit for a high average, but he has the potential to hit double-digit home runs with double-digit steals annually.

Liriano is hitting .278 with six home runs and seven steals in 188 plate appearances at Triple-A El Paso.

It is a bit difficult to read too much into Liriano's numbers given the extreme hitting environment at El Paso, but it is nice to see him showing off his power/speed combination in the early going. He is also walking at an 11.2 percent clip while striking out just 20.7 percent of the time, so his approach continues to improve as he matures. He does not seem to be a big part of the Padres' plans in 2015, but should a need arise in the outfield, Liriano is the most big-league ready corner outfielder in the farm system.

Liriano was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

With the Padres acquiring three excellent offensive outfielders this offseason, Liriano went from potential sleeper to non-factor for 2015. However, he probably needed some more time to fine-tune his approach, so next year could be the big breakout season for the five-tool player.

Liriano is out of the lineup Thursday against the Giants, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Liriano has started three straight games for manager Bud Black, but the Padres have faced off against a left-handed starter in each of those three contests. With righty Yusmeiro Petit taking the hill for the opposing Giants, Black will instead elect the left-handed bat of Will Venable in right field.

Liriano is not in the lineup Thursday against the Phillies.

After producing a three-hit performance Tuesday night, Liriano turned in a hitless, three-strikeout clunker a day later, and will be back to the bench as a result. Will Venable gets the nod in right field.

Liriano is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports.

Seth Smith will move out to right field Wednesday, pushing Liriano to the bench following five consecutive starts. Liriano is sitting with just a .545 OPS through 26 games with the big club, but he hit .291/.362/.473 between Double-A and Triple-A and the Padres figure to continue giving him ample playing time to see if he can be a regular option for 2015.

Liriano saw his batting average sink to .207 with Wednesday's hitless performance, and will head back to the bench as a result. The 23-year-old is among the most talented of the Padres' stable of outfielders, but his meager numbers to this point in his big league career will result in him sticking in a timeshare until his production takes off.

Since the Padres don't seem to have a legitimate chance at claiming a playoff spot this season, it seems somewhat strange that the team hasn't been giving Liriano regular at-bats since his Aug. 10 promotion to the majors. Liriano, perhaps the organization's best position prospect after Austin Hedges, will find himself on the bench for the third time in four games, as Will Venable picks up the start in right field.

Liriano is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Brewers.

After going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Tuesday's win, Liriano will find himself back on the bench. He's hit a lowly .186 since arriving in the majors Aug. 11, which has prevented him from running away with a starting outfield job to this point.
