OF Cedric Hunter, hitting .088 with the Phillies, was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday. "I told Cedric this afternoon, I know he's a better hitter than he's showing, but I think he's pressing," manager Pete Mackanin said, "and we just had to make a move to get something jump-started. I said, 'Hopefully we'll see you back here. Go down there and get some at-bats and regain your confidence.' He was fine with it. He was very professional. He got it." Hunter was signed as a minor league free agent in January. His only previous major league experience was a six-game trial with San Diego in 2011, during which he went 1-for-4.

Cedric Hunter has earned a spot on the Padres' roster.
Hunter posted a fantastic .435/.481/.826 slash line in 23 at-bats this spring and clearly opened the right eyes within the organization. His power numbers haven't been great in the minors, but he has some speed and is a strong defender. The 23-year-old was a third-round pick in 2006.
